Talking of pixel sizes: what scale measured in ppt are the original soldiers in WaR?

See the post above.  Stock soldiers are about 12 pixels per meter...give or take...it really depends on how tall that you imaging they are.  Soldiers are 22 pixels long in the prone position, so at 12 pixels per meter they are about 6 feet tall, or 1.83m

Thanks for posting the alternate soldier images!

The originals are definitely too big compared to vehicles. The 7.66 pixel per meter soldiers are probably the best match for the vehicles but seem small at a resolution of 1920x1600. So I'm using the 9.5 pixel per meter soldiers. That size also matches the vehicle size used in some mods out there for CC5 (ex. Stalingrad).

Maybe one day the map, soldier and vehicles will all be at the same scale....

That would be my number 1 priority if a new engine is built

I have an idea, hopefully valid:

So a panther tank is 6.87 meters long (not including turret gun overreach).
Lets say an average soldier is 1.8 meters tall (6 ft.), probably a slight overestimate.

Dividing 6.87 m/ 1.8m  = 3.82 ; in otherwords, along the length of a panther tank, we should be able to stack 3.82 or roughly 4 soldiers head to toe, lying prone.
Just from looking at the screenshots posted earlier in this thread, I'd say the 9.5 PIXEL SMALL SOLDIERS ARE THE MOST ACCURATELY SIZED.

Any thoughts? Agree disagree?

the 7.66 ppm soldiers are 14 pixels prone, so 55(Panther Hull length in pixels)/14(soldier length in pixels) = 3.92 soldiers per hull length. Given the slight difference in scale (the panther hull is 55/6.87 or 8.00...ppm), the 7.66 is probably the best approximation assuming 6 ft tall soldiers. In the end, it really only comes down to whichever one you like playing with the best.

Thanks for that extra info I didn't have access to, Neil. So it is 7.66!

Actually, Neil, when you say 14 pixels prone, is that with the rifle extended in front of the soldier?

If it is, then the soldier is actually less than 14 pixels prone, lets say for calculation purposes, he's only 11 pixels prone (3 is from the gun extended; 11+3=14)

a panther = 55 pixels.

55/11 = 5 men prone length-wise/panther.

6.87meters length of a panther / 5 men = 1.37 m height of a soldier. (Or 4 foot 6 inches.) This would be way too short!!!

So just checking in with you to make sure those 14 pixels DO NOT including an outstretched gun.

My measurement does not include gun.  14 pixels from Helmet to boot.  If you unpack the Soldier file, the best soldier to test this on is Image #55...O rotation of prone soldier with rifle underneath him.

I think that many things on CC games have not the correct size. Buildings are small, soldiers are big, trains are small, we can stay all the day speaking about it but personally I like see my troops on the screen without to tire my eyes. Games are games and they must be only fun, the realistic things are for the real live and I´m tired from real live when I play.

no no, to me, the fun is making this game a good historical representation! All the details count!

I like to see the uniform details and crude animations of our beloved tiny CC soldiers (throwing grenades, reloading weapons, crawling etc)...making them the correct size gives you soldiers that look like tiny little ants scurrying about the screen
Well, I guess we can use the tiny correct size soldiers and still see the little details at 800x600 map resolution

I never have problems with seeing my soldiers. On the other hand, sometimes I have trouble with clicking on them :P .
