Well, I got my copy from BB yesterday and started a campaign. So far I'm not very happy with the game. The environmental and NPC interaction is not very strong and it's very obvious the dialogue was written by someone with English as a second language - to the point of confusion and annoyance. The overhead view is too small, requiring a lot of scrolling for more than very close combat, and there are controls on the edge of the screen that cause lots of inadvertent scrolling to occur. Combat is rather clumsy, too, though I'm still figuring that out.

This was not the game I expected.

I was afraid of this. I wasn't impressed with the demo video, and now hearing this from you makes me even more hesitant to purchase.

How are the personalities of the Mercs? Is there humor in the game?

In system.cfg you can tweak camera settings. Try replacing original camera values with these:

      • r_hcamera_acceleration = "200.030"
        r_hcamera_auto_camera = "1"
        r_hcamera_border = "10.0000"
        r_hcamera_border_enabled = "1"
        r_hcamera_deceleration = "200.000"
        r_hcamera_fov = "0.540000"
        r_hcamera_inertion = "1"
        r_hcamera_max_angle = "2.00000"
        r_hcamera_max_height = "50.0000"
        r_hcamera_min_angle = "0.010000"
        r_hcamera_min_height = "0.50000"
        r_hcamera_mouse_invert = "0"
        r_hcamera_mouse_speed = "100.000"
        r_hcamera_rot_speed = "2.00000"
        r_hcamera_speed = "100.000"
        r_hcamera_zoom_acceleration = "900.000"
        r_hcamera_zoom_deceleration = "900.000"
        r_hcamera_zoom_speed = "0.950000"

Darknite, what do you mean by "The environmental and NPC interaction is not very strong"?

Also, can you confirm there is night/day cycles and we can do silent infiltrations during the night using NV goggles and such?

The mercs at least have distinctive personalities or are they just clones with name tags? Do the mercs evolve their skills with experience and training?

How exactly does the area conquering works? How do we get and manage income? Like in JA1 and 2? Or linear like JA Deadly Games?

Recognize that I only have a couple of hours playing so far so these observations are first blush.  The mercs do have individual personalities and there is a humorous edge but it's marred by language difficulties in my opinion.  These aspects are certainly not as evident as JA to me.

No idea on day/night, NVGs, training, area conqueroring and the like yet.

Have you tried the camera controls to zoom out and change your angle of view? The text for the game was reviewed and edited since the original, it's vastly better IMHO than the European release was. I didn't find any of it confusing, what specifically is confusing you?

Have you read the FAQ yet if you're having trouble?

It's not available to purchase from Matrix Games yet, Judge. That's why it's in the "Coming soon" section. Those folks who purchased the game already bought it at a retail store.

I mostly care about the combat system. Is it as good as JA2? Don't think anyone expects a non-US game to have strong voice acting/writing in it.

If the combat is what mostly interest you then you should find yourself a copy of Silent Storm. Combat is very similar to JA2 but better and fully 3D.

I think most of us have already played that one through once or twice already. It was good, except for the panzer kleins.

The hired guns combat system seemed OK in that klunky beta demo, if its an improved version now all the better. I have yet to find a retail release here in Canada and checked the big retailers, so it DL tomorrow I guess.

        r_hcamera_max_angle = "2.00000"
        r_hcamera_max_height = "50.0000"
        r_hcamera_min_angle = "0.010000"
        r_hcamera_min_height = "0.50000"
        r_hcamera_mouse_invert = "0"
        r_hcamera_mouse_speed = "100.000"
        r_hcamera_rot_speed = "2.00000"

        r_hcamera_zoom_acceleration = "900.000"
        r_hcamera_zoom_deceleration = "900.000"
        r_hcamera_zoom_speed = "0.950000"

Is there a way to make it really ZOOM in, to the point that I can see my guy's face? And how do you make it so that the ANGLE can be skewed all the way so it can be over the shoulder/POV of my guys.

I think this is the problem -- it's hard to tell where my guys are aiming or what they're seeing because of the 3D environment. It's pretty much a guessing game if I could shoot off an enemy.

I miss being able to tell what the PERCENTAGE accuracy of my bullets can hit from JA 1.13.

Use the mouse for that use the middle button/wheel and right button with mouse movement to reset your angle of view and zoom.

Alright, i'll try that, but jsut this very moment, I just alt-tab out of my game because i believe i've stumbled upon a bug.

during travelling in the TACTICAL MAP -- the icons of my squad turns into a GREEN circle.

I can neither create a new squad, nor do anything else. Help?

And the TEXT, mainly the dialogue -- are marred with typos and eccentric grammar.

Otherwise the game has a lot of potential regarding plots. That can be especially noted in the emails.

Ummm... that is one feature I would assume it should always be standard on every time-turn game... It worries me a bit not having the percentage information of the hits and I find it odd that a game of this kind misses that...
I believe that feature must be patched in asap!

Can you matrix people comment on the bug i've mentioned?

I've gotten it quite a few times, if anything -- it's a game stopper...

A game marred with this bug needed a QUICK SAVE key. Sad really, because I was starting to like it.

I assume you mean the strategic map? I recall this being one of the bugs in a prior version that was confirmed fixed for v1.07.00.

The copy you are playing, did you purchase that from us? Can you confirm what the version number in-game says?

The retail version is officially published by Tri-Synergy. Technically, they support the retail side, but realistically we'll support retail too as it's the same version as ours and we worked together on the release.
