Hi everybody, I've been enjoying this game for a few months now, playing mostly PBEM, and almost always with limited command point recovery. However, it would seem from the comments I have gotten not just from a few, but from pretty much all of my PBEM partners, that most people actually do not play with the limited recovery. This got me wondering; why not?

Although I do agree it certainly raises frustration levels (aaagh! I accidentally on an infantry!), having limited command point recovery has two major effects, which both have a significant bearing on the strategy of the game.

First, it forces a leader to travel with his troops. This is especially important for the confederates who have limited railways and can, without limited point recovery, effectively switch all of their best leaders where they are most needed. Jackson, for example, can effectively leave his troops behind, travel to tennessee, pick up some new ones, train them, and be just as effective as before. Unit cohesion, anyone?

Second, it slows down troop training, as trained infantry being moved up from the rear will still "take up" one command point for the leader that just trained them. This I found to matter mostly to the union, who is the side with enough leaders to set up "training camps" in the rear lines. With limited command point recovery, these "camps" will never be able to operate at full capacity.

Anyways, I am just looking for people's thoughts on the matter. I am currently playing PBEM both with and without limited cmd pts recovery, and I have to say, while the former is certainly more frustrating, even annoying, at times, I somewhat like the constraints it puts me under. It almost forces the player to think of the leader and his troops as one "unit", not just as the sum of several interchangeable parts.

Agreed, I have tried both, but I enjoy and appreciate Limited Command Point Recovery.

I think that eventually we will all try out the Limited command point recovery option- BUT it will change and slow the entire process in many ways- and right now it just seems a bit to slow for my taste in this game( I played with it one to try it, got F-ed up fast, fled and have not tried it again). Also I am a poor point and clicker and make too many mistakes adding and dropping units- I think I would loose too many opportunities with units all locked up with no remaining points to do what I wanted- for instance- drop a militia from leader- make him a cav unit- pick him up two op points- many of the cav leaders are 1 point guys- frustration and mistakes would get me too flustered.

That isnt to say once I have mastered the game- and after all these months I can say I am not even close- but perhaps after a few more months( hopefully not years) I will feel comfortable enough and will try to relearn the game using Limited point recovery. But for now- No- I think I will stay in basic mode.

Never played even before the release with less than CSC, Limited CP, Hidden, Semi-Random stats. It's the way i think the game is intended to be played for best historicity, and yes...this rule does make things very nasty. Good trainers can never move basically and when u have a good trainer and good general, your choice is a hard one to make.

I like the Limited Command Point Recovery. I just wish there was a way to undo a mistaken attachment without incurring the wrath of the rule. Occasionally I will make a mistaken attachment and immediately unattach, but the damage is done. It would be nice if you could unattach units that you attached that same turn as long as you did not move between the attaching and unattaching.

That's a pain and it happens to me very frequently too. however when that happens do not unattach because the damage is already done and if you do u'll find an unattached unit that can't be trained if AC or TC are not present and is still useless in offense next turn. You wouldn't get the CP back anyway.

Best thing to do is to move mouse slowly and click only when sure...in my case it's not that easy since i'm on a laptop. Good suggestion anyway
