Today i picked up the game Guns of August and well im not really all that impressed. the games graphics are still using counters to represent men and equipment. Maybe this paticular type doesnt pander to graphics but to the complexity of play. It just seems to be a bit behind the times. Probably i have not given the game a proper work out yet. because by the number of comments it seems like quite a popular game.

Well, it's a computer boardgame. It plays in the classic style of a board war game. I just don't know what kind of graphics would enhance its gameplay. Any sequence is repetitive, and such graphic would probably be detractively annoying. Play it -- it's a great little game.

If you are looking for crappy games with fancy graphics, boy did you come to the wrong place.

Most of the games offered here are 2 or 3 generations behind the rest of the world in digital content.  And most of us wouldn't have it any other way.

If you are looking for some games at army and corps level that have cute soldier or horse icons that cover up their pretty maps, I can recommend a few titles to you

Hehe, no doubt! For me, I have always enjoyed nice looking consistently applied graphics. Over the years, I have turned a little sour on graphics heavy "strategy" games. Sometimes the new "graphics" take some getting used to. Now days, I find myself appreciating the board game style more and more, because it doesn't attempt fancy graphics. Nice looking maps and counters will suffice for me. Especailly, if this enables the developer to spend more time in other areas of the game, like the AI.

Frankly- I like the old hex game map and counters with the alternate config when I set it up- I can read the data faster looking at Nato symbol counters and the Fortress cities are more distinct. I would rather play it simple- not that I dont like good graphics- I just have grown tired of them being so picturesque. .  Just my 2 cents..

If you patch the game you can use an alternate map and army style symbols.
