Has anyone ever played that game?

I'm kind of new here. I was on here as hgilmer and hgilmer2 and for some reason kept having trouble logging in and staying in so gave up on the forums for awhile. So, I never took the time to reintroduce myself so to speak when I returned. My other name had about 150 to 200 posts on it and I have been around since probably the beginning of 2007.

Anyway, Red Orchestra looks pretty cool. I'm amazed at what I have been missing recently as it comes to interesting games out that I just completely overlooked.

They have an official mod coming out at the end of January that covers the D-Day landings?

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

The brass is good and the percussion is excellent, but the string section is a little weak.

If you enjoy FPS's, and like one that does away with the "bunny hopping" and other goofy things found in most other FPS's and like armor battles, you'll probably like this one. It can get frustrating however, especially playing in an infantry roll since it is more "realistic" than say a Call of Duty, one shot in the right place and you'll like die. So, there's lots of times that I would run all the way up to the front only to get a death blow and have to start all over again. I don't have the patience for that myself. I suppose that is alleviated a bit the better you get though.

I've been playing RO since it was first released on Steam and it is my favorite MP shooter because it is more realistic than most and requires good team coordination. It was on sale over the holidays for only $4.99 too so no reason to not buy it at that price. I have lots of MP shooters but always get bored of them and go back to RO. Only other MP shooter I used to enjoy as much was Ghost Recon (original series).

Good game if you are into online shooters, but unless you are good at them you will find it more than a little frustrating.  It is certainly more 'realistic' than most, but the primary skills are still those most important in CoD, or Day of Defeat.  I'm just too old and too slow, these days, but if you're not you'll probably love it, especially at that price.  If you haven't so far, try DoD as well.  It's still my favourite WW2 shooter, the best implementation of 'classic' FPS gameplay and works much better as a 'drop in' than RO.  RO really needs to be played as a clan/squad game.

And thanks for the replies! I just bought it at 14.99 which I still thought was a steal.

GJK,

I was a competitive rifleman, and that issue makes COD unplayable for me. I do play with my son occasionally only for the "we share the same (kind of) hobby" sort of thing.

Sadly FPS's make me wretch, I can't play them anymore.

Regards,

RO is excellent as is the Darkest Hour Mod. Foy with a full team on each side is one of the best MP experiences I have ever had.
