Status: offline 		After much dallying, I ended up ordering Commands and Colors: Ancients from Gameslore today. I've wanted to play this for a long time, so Conflict of Heroes is on my list for next time

Thanks for the review JD, much appreciated. Have you looked on their site yet? They do have extra scenarios and updates available to download, but nowhere near as much content as there is for M44.

Status: offline 		Yes I have Jim...a bit disappointing on the Firefight front, but then I bought it knowing the content. I do hope they release more, although the game does seem to have longevity.

I hope you're happy with your purchase. Personally I'm not a big fan of ancients, but good luck with it m8

Command and Colors is a great game..... much fun to be had there with plenty of expansions. I've been persuaded to paint some miniatures to play the game using a Kallistra hex table. A good site for CC is http://www.ccancients.net/

Jim when you get the C&C:A game and you take out the card board game board, don't despair if it's not your cup of tea, as you've got a number of options open to you now!

For a mounted board you can either buy a copy of the Battlelore Epic module which basically comprises a same sized, oriented and scaled map board as C&C:A - very well worth the purchase as it's green and the C&C:A tan/desert terrain titles contrast and fit perfectly with it.

Or you can now go to GMT Games and order a new fully mounted desert colored C&C:A board that comes with expansions 2 and 3.

Adam, the map is about the only consistent criticism mentioned by people in reviews, so thanks for the info. It's good to know I can change it if I'm not happy. I really like ancients, so will almost certainly be buying the expansions for this one too.

You've likely seen the Consimworld forum for the game. There was some good chatter about that recently. I've never used the dice that came with the game! Instead I opted for a quality set of really nice feeling and looking crimson and gold Chessex D6!

That's a LOT of wooden blocks and stickers! It's going to take a while to put those on. The board is a bit disappointing, considering the quality of everything else in the box. In fact, if they'd made the board out of the same material as the box, it would be perfect. I'm probably going to order the Battlore Epic expansion as it's only £10 here in the UK and Battlelore is a game I'll end up buying anyway.

I've only had a quick look so far, but the dice don't seem too bad really. I saw a link the other day to a game company called Valley Games who produce some nice wooden dice for C&C:A for $7 (http://www.valleygames.ca/games.html#acc).

Right, I'm off to steal my wife's eyebrow tweezers to put the stickers on with!

Status: offline 		Slight spanner in the works. Sticker sheet three is printed badly and hasn't been punched propery. So, not only are the stickers virtually impossible to remove without tearing them, but the cutouts are a few millimetres into each sticker instead of being on the edge. I've emailed GMT Games to ask if they can replace the sheet as the game isn't playable as it stands. I have never dealt with them before though, so don't know what their service is like.

1 GMT's customer service is fantastic, really second to none.

2 Valley games dice are nice but their service is really REALLY crappy. Your order may end up in a black hole and you may not see your dice for months or ever for that matter. Buyer beware.

That's reassuring, thanks petdoc. I offered to send a pic of the sheet for them to confirm that I'm not pulling a fast one. After all, they don't know me either, so I'm happy to prove there's an issue with their printing. It's just disappointing that I can't play the game.

Status: offline 		You will be fine Jim, they respond very trustingly. In your case, page 3 is the only sheet not duplicated in the game's inventory so you need help fast.

Note, that they sell everything separately too - so if you want more blocks or a mounted map, might be a good opportunity too!

I had to have the company Z Man Games send me a complete set of wooden blocks the other day, for their "1960 Making the President" game as mine were completely dirty. No questions asked and they sent me a big bag in just over a week Down Under.

Hey, as a tip and I don't know if you've discovered this but because I play solo I decided to only sticker one side of my blocks! Many gamers lay their units flat for face to face play too. So its a great way to save some stickers - maybe make some extra units up and save time. FYI for when you get stickering again.

I think GMT will appreciate your contact. They could have a faulty batch of games they can now keep track of.

Status: offline 		Since emailing someone named Tony Curtis at GMT on Tuesday, I've heard nothing. So, I emailed their general address last night in case he didn't get the email or isn't at work. If they don't reply by Monday next week, I'll just go back to Gameslore and ask for a refund, as £46 is a lot to spend on a game I can't play.

Gameslore don't publish an email address on their site, so I filled in a form this morning to ask if they could help. The form failed on submission with an SMTP error. As I'm at work, I can't telephone them at the moment.

I'm not having much luck with this one so far.

I'll give it another go when I get home and will try and monitor it a bit more closely. Every time I've looked so far, it's been showing "offline" though. I guess that's due in part to the differences in time between the US and UK.

Status: offline 		I just got home and booted up the PC. Onlilne support was available on the GMT site, so I connected. I spoke to a very nice lady called Sherry who confirmed that they'd had a reports of a few other customers with this sheet three printing problem. My emails don't seem to have reached them.

She took my address and said the replacement would be sent out today!! Now that is what I call good service!! Awesome.

You guys were right about their customer service and thanks for the help

That's made my weekend.

Status: offline 		I just had the war game fairy drop off my copy of Blood and Bridges Friday. Mark's World at War series is a blast to play. Quick, simple and concise rules (this does tend to lead to folks overthinking the rules at times), big map, tons of counters, and full color rule book and player aid cards. Very, very good looking game.

I hope you get a chance to play it.

2. JD how is Conflict of Heroes coming along?. I've just got Tide of Iron which I'm enjoying. Loads of miniatures with it. Like playing with toy soldiers again, but this time with rules.

Status: offline 		Conflict of Heroes is very good and very polished.

I have still to get past the first couple of scenarios...not dealt with armour or anti armour or cards yet....still "solidifying" the rules. That isn't to say they're very difficult, just I have a bad memory which is a problem I am able to bypass by learning whilst playing...helps keep them in there. Not only that, but the Six Nations rugby is on which eats my weekends when I generally crack out on of my boardgames.

I'm also taking my time with it because there are only a few scenarios unfortunately and it doesn't seem as widely used as say Memoir '44, which has a plethora of scanrios on the website for printing off.

I was hoping to get it out tonight for a game, but I'm at the gym and I have Generation Kill to watch so won't get a chance...and the rugby is on at the weekend...maybe Sunday

Finally got hold of them and it appears they may be going out of business and are unable to fulfill any orders at this present time. Trouble with a bank calling in an overdraft. Credit crunch madness strikes again. Just hope my number one supplier stays solvent because online is the only way to get these games nowadays.
I agree it can be difficult remembering all the rules but somehow I find it is more relaxing than computer games. Unless I am playing against my ultra competitive lads, then its more like the real thing.....

Who did you order from? I can't believe it's become so hard to get hold of.

What's going on here? I've just looked at Amazon UK and Memoir '44 is £128!!!!!!!

I'm glad you asked Within 4 days of my being promised the replacement sheet, it arrived! I'm still in the process of putting the stickers on the blocks, but it's relaxing to do. One thing I have noticed is that they have changed some of the graphics on some units. It only seems to be with a couple, but they are quite different.

I'm a very happy person though. GMT's after sales service is superb.
