wich is the correct way to use barges?

when you activate barges they appear as a task force.

should you keep as task force or disband them?

First off, let me preface this by saying I dont think there is a "right way" to use barges. Whatever works for you is "right". I use barges a lot.

I use them in areas where I either cant achieve air supremacy, areas where I dont want to fight for air supremacy, and areas heavily infested by subs.

I also use them to grab smaller lightly or undefended bases on the flanks of my main attack where I dont want to divert fighter cover from the main force.

Sometimes I use them as bait with fighter escort. Since enemy planes have to be at 100' to attack them, 2 or 3 barges make mighty fine bait for this.

My question is especifically for load or unload duties.

In a base with port sise 1 or 2...actually the barges help in faster unloads or not.

thank you.

Doesnt really matter. They are so small they load / unload in 1 turn regardless of port size.

Barges, per se, don’t help unload other ships. As Yammy says, if a barge TF is carrying supply/troops, the barge TF will load/unload within a turn. But a ship TF doesn’t unload onto a barge TF which in turn unloads into a port.

Instead, this function is abstracted by a new unit type called Naval Support. Among its many other nifty functions, NavSup is presumed to include a Harbor Master, lighterage, stevedore crews, and definitely speeds up the unload rates at small ports. NavSup is included in Base Forces and elsewhere.

Think of barge TFs as operational craft, for carrying operational troops and supply from a departure base to a destination base (not very far away), not as an internal part of base/port ops.

[edit] NavSup is in AE, but not WiTP-I. Oops. Rest of the stuff is valid for both versions though.

Was he talking about AE? This wasnt in the AE area, so I assumed he was talking about WitP.

Yep. My bad. Been working so long on AE, forgot the WiTP-I paradigm. Tried to fix with an edit note, but guess that wasn't enuf. Will try to do better in the future.

Appologies to all who got confused. Will no longer post on this forum thread.
