is there a way to fire with a tank with only the turret facing towards the target instead of the whole tank?

hi,
just choose your targets you're firing at by clicking on the 'target' button, and then you hit 'n' or 'p' to scroll through possible targets, then you choose one , then you fire and you get a huge fireball , and this only by moving the cuppolla :));)

ciao

Just curious why wouldn't you want your tank facing the target it's shooting at? The thickest armor on the Tank is in the front to better protect you against the return fire.

yeah well, i was playing my first PBEM game, and i had this king tiger on a hill facing an Achilles IIC ~12 hexes away, and a Sherman V (I believe) 3 hexes to the king tigers left. maybe im a complete idiot but since the prob to take out the sherman were much higher compared to the prob of taking out the Achilles (and both stood a reasonable chance of taking out my tank) i gave the sherman a try... and got taken out in return by that 17pounder gun which hit me right in the side cause that dumb KT had rotated its entire body.
so thats the entire story. maybe i should have used an entirely different approach, but im still a newb :)

which brings me to a different matter: PBEMs are so much fun i wanna play another game of it. all options on, including c&c, true troop/rarity on, medium battle ~5000 points, i like to play the wehrmacht. if interested email me at winnie666@abi02.de

hope to hear from ya soon!

I sometimes do it too, gmenfan. If I have fired all my main gun shots, I will often use the coax to fire at flanking infantry, keeping the heavier armor towards enemy tanks (which sometimes get yet another opfire at me!) Another example would be against an opponent using scoutcars to get you to turn so that he can hit you from the side with a heavier tank. Just turn the turret to deal with the car. Also, If the bulk of the enemy are in front of me in open terrain, any shot I take on the flank is going to be with my turret only (this occurs most in desert terrain).

Well then it is making more sense as I was unaware that heavier armor was near enough to cause you grief.. Then by all means your right in wanting to keep thick armor towards the attackig heavy armor while you move your turret only to attack a more feasible target. I just wasn't reading enough into it. I will go now.

gmenfan,

In the eyes of Goblins everywhere, you can do no wrong! Fear not, Lord Moderator, we know, given all the facts, your answer would have been complete and all-knowing! (obligatory weekly kissing-up session completed)(he did put me in the Hall, guys)

You may want to rotate your turret to a present a more advantageous armored side before you move.

Right click the direction you want the turret to point while you're moving. This will rotate the entire turret/hull unit.

Then left click on your destination hexes. The hull will rotate in the direction of movement when you move (what are ya gonna do :: shrug :: ). BUT the turret will continue to point in the previously selected direction.

This is particularly useful if you're traversing a hill crest at an angle to the front line. You're probably hull down anyway, so his best chance is a turret hit on the frontal armor.

Be careful, if you fire at a target that is adjecent, the AFV is going to turn to face it regardless of how you target it. :( It used to infuriate me when a tank would do this and get taken out by a flank/rear shot when I did not tell it to rotate. CL should fix this.

Yeah - I hate this feature too. But, if you're aware in advance that the rotation will happen, you can give better thought to your firing sequence.

Pop that bugger that's going to get the flank shot with another unit first. :D
