Does he have a land supply line? From the map on the screenie, it looks like the supply line has to pass through Dacca, that you own.

on the contrary, why not trying an offensive in CHINA ? With 60 units sticked in india/burma, hiw much come from china??? May be you can make him panic with a drive toward Hanoi or another china city. Remenber: he have to keep garrison in chinese city, and he can't gather what he wants...and there no threat of the KB in china...

Just my thought (not sure it's the best)

All major bases in CHina conencted to rail lines have been taken. Chinese troops havnt got enough rice or guns to go on the offensive.

No overland supply route..just to make sure moved troops to totally surround them.

Jeez that's a lot of the Japanese player's ground forces in that theater.  ISTM that he's reinforcing failure, though.  You've got the rail lines, the internal communication lines, and the base (Chandapur), while he will at best have to rely on an overland supply route that is really, really long, running through Akyab.  Given the difficulty I've had in retaking Akyab in 1944 using the overland route, by the time any more troops get to Chandapur from Akyab all they'll accomplish is to serve as an additional drain on too few supplies.

Your biggest concern needs to be sea transport reaching those units on the beach.  The airbase at Akyab will provide LRCAP and ASW patrols for any approaching TF's, as well as anti-shipping forces vs any of your bombardment/surface warfare TF's.  If you've got the bombers to spare you need to make sure that airbase at Akyab stays as damaged as possible, or he may try and run a megasized supply TF in to feed/rearm those men trying to take Chandapur.

Agree here however the brits do not have any long range fighter that is any good at this stage to provide aircover vs fighters at Akyab. I did try and bomb the airfield while it was damaged but he must have had LR Cap from his carriers did some damage. I think its best to wait and try attack his ships in Chandpur itself if they attempt to resupply. I think there is more chance of him withdrawing as level 7 forts now with 3000 assault strength will never fall. Or he could wait 3 months for units to march up the road!!

I must say this is a very interesting situation and I reckon it would be good if this thread became a AAR at least until the battle is resolved. Your opponent has jumped in with both feet and at the moment I think you are favourite to win the battle but with a sneaky move the odds could change quickly.

(edit)
Not in the sense that you can't discuss moves just in the sense that I would be good if you kept us informed on a as thing progress....

If a moderator can move this to the AAR thread I can keep it updated. This is my 2nd only game in PBEM format and have not played much in SP except the very old version many years ago. I am usure of exactly what the Japs are capable of hence the reason for asking for advice!!

Japs move large Naval assets North towards Chandpur. Transports take a pounding with mines and planes in Chandpur itself. Carriers and escort ships stay 1 hex away. Mining operations proved effective at Chandpur. Also Jpa units reduces from 45 to 38 so he might be evacuating:

That's what I figured; your opponent's cutting his losses and pulling out, after realizing there's no way he could continue adequately supplying such a huge ground force.  He had hoped to take Chandapur in the first few attacks and secure the base as a logistics center; when that didn't happen, he ended up trapped.

Running a TF of light surface forces (DD's, a CL if you've got them) into Chandapur right now with a withdrawal order on (so they can get away from the carrier strike next day) would bag a large number of merchant ships.

Yeah, 38 Zeroes downed.  Is that KB's daitais ?  It would be great.  Anyway, your opponent just lost a lot of his pilots there.

Another 116 zeros down all Naval air. My strike missions were all small due to 20+ single ships in Chandpur picking up units. If they would have only launced one big strike on the carrier fleet instead of 3 or 4 planes attacking transports it could have been worse for Japs:

You paid a hefty price, but even if only half of the Zero pilots were killed, that's half your opponent's yearly "production" of pilots.  This will make life easier for you.

Do you have enough planes left to renew your attacks tomorrow ?  CAP should be much, much weaker.

Couple of Spitfire quadrons and some bombers squadrons in reseve. Problem I have is they wont launch coordinated strikes but tend to send a hadnful of bombers vs single transport ships. Only lost about equal fighters with Japs. Most losses were in bombers with plenty in reserve.

My bet is he's going to create a bunch of barges and run supplies on a Rangoon-Akyab-Chandpur line.  He may try an evac on the barge return trip, too.  He's in a mess.  He won't be able to pull troops out fast enough with barges, and so he'll probably lose at least half the force when his AV drops and gives you 3 to 1 or better odds.  If he does the barge thing, put your fighters and bombers with good gun values on naval attack at 100'.  They'll strafe the barges and rough them up pretty good.  What a lovely set up.

The IJ player already has most of the troops loaded - see the IJ AV from the last bombardment.

Definitely scrape up every bit of air you have for next turn because he's running. Them airedales can rest later!

Well he has loaded most of the assault value in 1 turn and since he has Akyab to fly LB fighters out of it is a very costly exercise. Also because he is trying to pick up around 190000 troops there a lots and lots of small transport fleets being atatcked by my bombers with only 3 or 4 planes and the escorts not flying and getting hit with 50 Zeros flying LR CAP. Still there would be a lot of support and abandoned weapons which usually takes 2 or 3 turns to load sitting on the beaches. I think those troops will be out of action for quite a while refitting. Launched a diliberate attack last turn against his reduced forces and I await the outcome.

One of his CVL did receive a couple of 1000lb bombs from some B-17. Not sure on what sort of damage the would do to a light CV

Ah, didn't catch that.  Yep, throw every little thing that has wings on it at them, and pray for good weather.

Even if it's costly, send your planes again.  You can afford to lose pilots and airplanes - he can't.  At least, not the pilots.  The goal is not so much to sink ships anymore, but to shoot his Zeroes down.

Well after 1 turn regrouping I gathered anything that could fly, pity the same ships were attacked, multiple times so only really hit about 10 different ships.
Wondering now wether its worth sending a few warships out hunting some loaded transports. Weather is Rain but was hoping to for Thunderstorms due to Jap LB aircraft being able to hit my Ships. Is it worth the sacrifice? My ships would have to sortie 2-3 hexes from Akyab:

With 80 Nells flying from Rangoon, Tavoy or Bangkok ?  Nope, don't sortie the RN, you'll need it later.  You can replace pilots and planes, not ships.

Sadly, you did not shoot any other Zero, but 10 AP sunk for a couple of operational losses (maybe) largely make up for the planes you lost the previous day, point-wise.  And your losses are easily replaced.

All in all, I declare you the winner of this campaign.  Even if you lost Akyab, you defended India and put such a dent in the IJN's & IJNAF's capacities that you should start your Pacific Offensive soon, not counting the (hopeful) wreckage of the invading LCU's.

Well I sortied a couple light crusiers and some DD to see if I can knock a few of the transports running away. Maybe the rain will keep a few Jap planes grounded!!

The last attack finally saw the Japanese forces destroyed at Chandpur. Sunk ships include 26 AK, 50AP, 2 BB, 1 CVL, 4 CL, 16DD, 15 MSW almost twice that number sitting in port with damage with hits on another 6 BB and 4 Carriers. I esitmate losses for the Jap player cloose to 100,000 men with equipment. Over 300 Zeros shot down mostly Naval planes. UK losss include 700 UK planes, 1 CL sunk & 3 Subs sunk. Allied VP score went from 4900 to 7600 in 1 month mostly from that battle alone. Japanese score went from 16000 to 17100 over the same period.
Now what for the Japs?

Losing one old CL to air attack and a few DD's damaged is well worth the AP's and troops they were carrying being sunk by your surface forces.  I agree with your assessment; your opponent has lost heavily in ships, men, planes and pilots, and while he can replace the planes he really can't replace the ships or pilots.  He's going to dig in at Akyab and hang on there, but that should give you the opportunity to start an offensive somewhere else.  You might want to try and position some subs to intercept those damaged ships returning to Japan; the paths they take will be fairly predictable and you might get some lucky hits.

Time to get on your horse and go looking for trouble.  Hopefully, you've been working up some diabolical plan in SOPAC and/or SWPAC and are ready to act on it.  It's going to take him a while to sort this stuff out.  He almost certainly wasn't planning on having to do a mass evac at this point in the game, and anything that disturbs the Japanese plan as big as this in '42 is a huge windfall for the allies.  Push, push, push.
