Hi all.

For what do YOU use night fighters?

Night naval attack? Airfield attack?

Just a question..

They are pretty useless... if in range, try to bomb some oil, resources, or an airfield or port.

Hm...yes they seem to be not more than normal fighter-bombers.

They become usefull if for some reason your opponant switches to night bombing, otherwise they just sit there. I'd use em as described bombing airfields etc, or at least until my opponant actually used a night mission.

I remember in the past i used Mosquito XVIII or so with their 4000lb bombs at night at ports with heavy traffic...sometimes, they score a hit and when they did it was deadly.

But these 500lb´s ´the normal NF is dropping...not worthy the fuel expended.

I've found night fighters aren't used that often, but they're definitely something you want to have around.  Every once in a while I've seen night bombing missions cause problems.  In those rare instances you definitely want some good night figters around.  The version based on A-20s are relatively useless for anything, but most other night fighters have their uses.  RIght now I'm having some luck using Beaufighter VIFs as LRCAP/interceptors.  I think the sqn of 16 have 8-9 kils to their name in about half a dozen sorties.  In CHS/nikmod this is a very good success rate.

If they're not going up against Tonies or Franks, they can be set to Sweep.  The Beufighters do ok at this: their speed it good but their max alt is lacking.  The P-70s (A-20 varient, whatever it's called), I really just use to bomb AFs. The early Blen NFs are fairly worthless (poor AtA, and meager bomb-load).

They can develop some experience/skill at shipping attacks at night [100'], but such are pinpricks, but maybe that's all one can obtain in the first year.

Not really - they can usually only attack if there is a sub in the hex... good luck on that.

I use them for annoyance and psychological warfare.
Of course they are not very effective in game terms but they might help you in lateral play.

Switch them to daylight ops and have them CAP bases out of fighter escort range, they can be useful against unescorted bombers. They must, never, ever, ever go toe to toe against any type of fighter or fighter-bomber. Otherwise night airfield/port attack guerilla ops can do but dont expect miracles, maybe a lucky hit from time to time... .
