Ok, so this is a pbem game. The following nations and players are in effect.

Kingmaker as Spain
AndrewKurtz as Sweden
Terje439 as Austria
Mus as England
Lenin as Prussia
JJdenver as Russia *changed to Anthropoid* My thanks to JJDenver for keeping up the game despite problems!
Ironwarrior as France
Matto as Turkey.

So, if YOU are one of my opponents....Get out get out get out

The game is for 2000 glory, and starts in 1796 with advanced economy.
This will also be my first game as Austria, and mistakes are bound to be made!
Anyway, feel free to laugh at my mistakes and post comments.

Turn 1

We start the game at war with France.

Royal palace, Vienna

King Terje439 (from now on, only known as The King!): Hmm, so the French thinks they have a better way of ruling their nation? How do they dare! We shall prove to them that monarchy is the only way to rule. I am annointed by God after all!

Well, I know alot of you would prefer us to sue for peace with France and build our economy. Now, how would that make us look? I'll tell you, it would make us seem afraid of the nation of France. Hah! My only fear of anything French is that my chef will one day serve me the legs of frogs.
No, the war will continue. But we will also use diplomacy as much as possible. Now here is what we will do:

1.Send out our diplomats and try to force a coup in our neighbouring nations. Let us start with Salzburg and Upper Palatinate. This will swell our borders and give us some breathing space between Vienna and the french boarders.
2. Issue orders to our 1st and 2nd Army to join up at the Palatinate. Try to seize control of that French protectorate. If successfull we can then use that area as a base of operations, also shortening our supply line.
3. Order the Piedmont Corps to give all its divisions over to the 3rd Army at Trent.
4. Pull the Observation Army closer to Vienna. Moravia would be a good location, as that allows the army to forage without the need to add even more demands on our strained economy.
5. Let us try to make a non-agresssion pact with Russia. (deja vu )
6. Finally pray! Pray that the Preussians will advance on France, and that Britain will want us to stay in the war as long as possible, and will send us money to make sure of it.

Turn 2

Royal Palace, Vienna

Messager: Sire, Sire I bring news!
The King: Well, what?
Messager: 3 naval battles were fought between Britain and France, two major losses for France and a minor setback fro Britain.
The King: Good, good. Did any of our armies come under attack? And have Britain decided to send us any cash?
Messager: That is a double no, Sire.
The King: Hmm... Well, pull the 3rd Army to Tyrolia and build a depot there, the Piedmont Corps should be without any divisions by now, order it to Vienna.
Messager: yes Sire!

Turn 3

1400 hrs, Dining room, Royal Palace, Vienna

Messager: Sire, Sire, I bring news!
The King: Not during my breakfast, go away and come back in an hour!

1500 hrs, Library, Royal Palace, Vienna

Messager: Sire, there was a battle in the Palatinate between our forces and the French. 56700 casualties, off which 21500 were ours. A Huge victory sire, and it forced the French to surrender! A great day.
The King: Damn!
Messager: Huh, Sire?
The King: I hoped for this war to last a little longer. Oh well, demand 3 French colonies and 90.000$ in cash to accept their surrender.
Messager: Yes Sire!

1600 hrs, Diplomatic office, Royal Palace, Vienna

The King: Any news from our diplomats?
Advisor: Yes Sire. Russia accepted our proposal of an enforced peace for 3 years. But the Russians also made a diplomatic deal with Turkey. And that deal might be targeted against us, it is a deal lasting for 10 years, involving free passage of troops, sharing of depots, an alliance, and to seal the deal a royal marriage!
The King: Hmm, well that will not be something we offer, my daughters will not be married off to some turkish or Russian barbarian!
Advisor: Understood Sire!

1700 hrs, examining room, Royal Palace, Vienna

The King: I keep telling you there is nothing wrong with me Doctor!
Doctor: Yes Sire, but it is my duty!
The King: Bah, I'm sending you to serve in the army. You will be a field doctor from now on!

The King: Kristine, come here!
Kristine: Yes Father?

Reception hall, Royal Palace, Vienna

Turkish emmisary: I bring a deal, one year of peace between our nations, will this be satisfactory?
King's advicer: It is a deal!

Kings bedchamber, late in the evening, Royal Palace, Vienna

The King: Hmm I wonder what the Turks are up to. First an alliance with Russia and now a mere 1 year peace treaty with me...They must be watched. I must...
The King: zzz-zzz

Turn 5

Royal Palace, Vienna

Advisor: Sire, were have you been hiding these last few days??
The King: Rumour has it that British beer is far better than ours, I had to see for myself. And you know, British beer is indeed nice. To fix the shame that there are some things the British do better than us, I have ordered the construction of some farms to produce hops, as well as more banks so that our people can afford the nice nice beer we will soon be making!
Anyway, did I miss anything?
Advisor: Yes Sire! The hopeless rabble of Bavaria has agreed to become a protectorate of Preussia...this means that the border with Preussia is now even longer. Since the Bavarians are a lost cause we have sent the diplomat we had there to Switzerland since your wife desireed a new watch.
The King: Excellent, if the Queen is happy, there is a bigger chance I'll be happy!!

(OOC: The delay in the game is all due to me having spent 5 days in London, hopefully things will speed back up again now)

Turn 7

Foreign minestry, Vienna

The King: How are we regarded in the world?
Foreign Minister: We are the envy of the world Sire, and we have just declared ourself the Austrian Empire!
The King, Good, good.

Royal Palace, Vienna

The King: Send for my national advisor!
Servant: Yes, Sire.
30 minutes later
National Advisor: You sent for me Sire?
The King: How is the morale amongst the pesants? And anything else I need to know?
National Advisor: Well I am afraid to say Sire, that the pesants are complaining, although there is enough food to feed everyone, we do not produce enough food for alot of the newborns to survive. Furthermore we do not produce luxuries for the people, and we experience some waste. Our building-techniques are also inferior to those of many other nations. What we need Sire, are more banks, more courts and more farms!
The King: I see. You are dismissed...

Turn 8

Royal Palace, Vienna

Foreign Minister: Sire, Sire two battles between Preussia and France have taken place. Preussia won both! And as that is not enough, they have declared themselves an Empire!
The King: Hmm. How does Britain respond to this?
Foreign Minister: It seems they are sending money to Spain, Russia and Preussia. We do however not recieve anything.
The King: I see. Get me a French speaking teacher. I need to learn French!
Foreign Minister: Sire?
The King: If we are the only ones with borders against France that do not get money to keep building our realm, perhaps the French will pay us if we guarantee an enforced peace treaty with them...I need to consider this.
Foreign Minister: But Sire, that would be...Like...I have no words. What will our people say?
The King: I am the King after all, they will do as they are told!

Turn 12

The day starts with alot of wagons heading up to the Royal Palace. Something is surely going on!

Meeting Room, Royal Palace, Vienna, 1400 hours

The King:l, you all asked to see me and informed me that it was important. Spill it!
Internal Advisor: Due to the fact that France declared war on the Papacy, the Papacy have asked, and I took the liberty of accepting, to be part of our nation.
Minister of foreign affairs: That angered the British. They demand that we cede Malta to them. They were rather rude about it as well!
Minister of covert operations: My spies tells me that there is a rumor about a secret treaty between Preussia and Russia. There are only two possibilities as to who such a treaty could target. Sweden or us!
Diplomat: I've used my persuasive powers to make the kingdom of Wurzburg seek to be part of our kingdom. I've also agreed to the terms. As of today Wurzburg is merged into Austria!
Servant: Dinner is served!

Lounge, Royal Palace, Vienna, 1800 hours

The King: Now that was a nice little dinner. Hmm this is what we will do;
-we will SELL Malta to England. 60.000 gold for that piece of rock seems about right.
-we will be humble towards Russia and Preussia. If they team up against us, well the Preussian protectorates are on our boarder. Seize them!
-we need to build a better court system, I've been told that some people are not paying their taxes in full. This will not do!
-we need to build up our industry.
All: Yes Sire!
The King: Now leave!

Turn 13

Secret plotting room, Royal Palace, Vienna

The King: King Mus of Britain has been sending me threathening letters by mail pidgeons. You know the pidgeons that only flies to the other major power rulers. Yes the red ones. Can anyone please tell me the current situation in a clear manner so that I can make informed desitions?
Foreign Minister: We have made this map for you, it should tell everything in an easy way.

The King: This is EASY?!
Foreign Minister: well...You see...Nation A allready owns tiny dot B, and now also wants to own tiny dot C which we own.
Nation D is at war with minor E, while Nations F and G are trying to make an alliance to attack Nation D to defend minor E.
At the same time Nations G and H have signed a secret agreement about something secret, but we are certain it is not good. Nation A just wanted us to hand over tiny dot C with no reimbursement what so ever!
The King: I THINK I get it...Well I will not give away anything, even a tiny dot for free. If they want tiny dot C, they will get it if they sign a two way enforced peace deal lasting three years. I have also recieved a red pidgeon from Emperor Lenin of Nation G stating that they are not too pleased to see our armies camped at their border. To take care of this, we will hold a great military parade in Vienna. All troops are to be pulled back to the city. That way noone will know the relocation is due to external pressure. Bah, now I have a headache. Work on your map drawng skills before our next assembly!
Foreign Minister: Yes, Sire!

Turn 14

Royal Palace

The King: We must strengthen our schools! There is no such kingdom as Wurzburg. Our diplomat couped the entire Papacy! We must focus more on Geography so that we know who we are fighting and couping.
I've also proposed to sell the province of Savoy to France for 30.000$ in cash. We must think about liberating the Papacy again as that will bring additional glory to our cause. Oh well, anyone that has any news?
Minister of foreign affairs: Yes Sire, the Swedes and Preussians did NOT sign a deal to help Denmark against the agression of Spain. Furthermore Preussia and Russia has declared an alliance, this might target either us or Sweden. And as that is not enough, Britain has invaded Corfu. What should I do?
The King: We will do nothing, we need to lay low for a while. All of Europe is a giant powderkeg at the moment, we do not want to light a match......yet....

Foreign Minister: Erm, yes Sire.

Turn 15.5

Royal Palace, Red-carrier pidgeon room

The King: Now let us see what Kign Mus of Britain wants today.
*reads a message*
The Kign: Ah right, usual threats and attempts to justify himself by saying that he does not have any issues with us expanding our borders as long as he gets to pick his pieces and territories FIRST...Hmm I guess I seriously need to look into the possibility of making another alliance...
*another red pidgeon arrives*
The King: Hmm another pidgeon, from King Kingmaker of Spain this time. Let's see, "blah blah blah, stop Britain, Malta hot issue, blah blah. What is this? Start a "friendly war" so that Spain can seize Malta and then let the war lapse? That sounds risky. Might be an excuse to start a real war together with its Russian ally, which would bring Preussia, Turkey and Spain in as well. No, this will not do, I would be at war with everyone. Hmm I need to make a nice and respectful reply while not saying anything...
"Dear King Kingmaker, I wish I had had your vision before accepting Britains current deal which basically gives me nothign but one year of peace with Preussia and Britain. But it warms my heart to have your support in difficult situation.
Yours King Terje
The Kign: Hehe if he buys that I should have secured peace for a little longer.

(OOC: the turn 15.5 is between turns and had to be written due to heavy PM/emails from Kingmaker and Mus about the situation)

Update

So far things have gone ok. No more, no less.
I won the war against France (we started the game at war) too soon, this gave France 300 points to spend on upgrades, and me 3 colonies. A poor deal for me.

However when the game started everyone was terrified of France and ganged up on her, which has resulted in France now having some -200 glory points and is not really the monster we all feared she would be.
Another side effect of my victory against France was that I got in the lead in terms of glory points, this does however not really reflect the true situation, not by a longshot.

As of today my income is lacking in every aspect, the most serious one being money. I am barely breaking even, and can only afford ONE supply center. I'm frantically building banks, however this is moving along slowly, as Austrians take their time to build stuff. So if my opponents had any idea as to my real situation, they would team up on me now (I do however expect Russia and Preussia to DoW me any turn now, and this will pull in their allies, Turkey and Spain as well. Britain is allied with almost everyone, so I expect that they would team up with the others and attack me.)
A good example as to how poor my economy is: when feudal troops are levied, I have to delete them as I cannot afford to have any more troops on the map .

And although I am ahead in glory points, Britain and Preussia are catching up rather fast, and as of nwo, these two nations are the ones that will battle it out for victory. Preussia is not too bad, she is a main land power and can be teamed up against, Britain on the other hand is worse. After a brief war between France and Britain, huge parts of the French fleet went submerged, and are now lost forever, so even with an alliance of Spain, Sweden, Russia, France and Preussia I think that British supremacy on the sea is secured.
And I do not have any naval vessels, so I cannot invade Britain no matter what

Although my armies contain some 250.000 troops I am worried about my neighbours, Preussia can probably field just as many troops as me, Turkey is reported to have some 650.000 troops, and Russia is unknown, but I bet they have more troops than me.

I will probably start to make myself some protectorates or even completely liberate some area soon. This has to be done due to waste, and due to the fact that I believed Wurzburg+Salzburg to be a kingdom of its own, not to be part of the Papacy. That added way too many provinces to my empire, and adds to the waste I am experiencing.

At the moment my situation is such that any wars must be avoided at all costs, and being the glory point leader I have a hard time making alliances. This places me between a rock and a hard place in oh so many ways. The only ones I could maybe form an alliance with is France and Sweden, and that would have to target Preussia. However that does not really help me alot. Sure it will lower Preussian glory, but what I need is a big victory against an opponent with alot of colonies for me to claim, as this would greatly boost my monetary production.

Lastly, anyone reading this? Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, wants etc they would like to share?

Terje

Well that is the thing about pbem games...you need something while you wait for that next turn to keep your sanity

What kind of sceenshots do people want to see? There are no battles to be shown in pbem games, so has to be something else.

What kind of screens? Well in my experience ppl who read AAR's do enjoy a wide variety of sreenies, makes it more entertaining to read. So whether it be photoshopped screens, googled images related to the AAR, or just battlefield screens with personal notes added, it's the mixture that makes it fun. Agreed, that also makes it more timeconsuming to write, but the best AAR's are almost like a book. Im reading a few AAR's at the moment, one from Chocolino in the Road to Victory forum (just finished the game) in where you can witness the evolution, the development of Chocolino as an AAR writer. He starts with simple screenshots, then he adds a couple of screenshots in a single post and finally he adds personal observations on the screens. He's heading in the right direction. An even better AAR is written at the moment in the Advanced Tactics forum by Lancer, he doesn't post often, but these posts are really timeconsuming to write and a joy to look at.
So to sum it up, writing an AAR is more than posting a few battlefield screens, the more you let your imagination take over the more fun it becomes to read.

Well will see what sort of screenies I can thnk up
But as previously mentioned, there will be no battle-screenies since in pbem there are no battle screens at all. All battles are done as instant combat, and is nothing but a report in the event screen.
But will think something up
Thanks for the advice btw!

Turn 16, part two

Meeting Room, Royal Palace, Vienna

The King: I want the Papacy to be released as a sovereign nation again, we really do not want that much land, and it is driving the other major powers mad. It has to be done for the time being.
Minister of foreign affairs: *sigh* I know Sire, I will see it done.
The King: Now show me what is happening in Europe!

The King: Give me a comparison between our and the other nations economy.
Foreign Advisor: As you wish Sire. The situation is as follows;

Internal Advisor: Our main problem is monetary income. We are slipping further and further behind. We need colonies and a better banking system.
