We've uploaded the Public Beta version of the 1.08.00 Update and it is available in our Members Club. While we do final testing we figured we'd offer you a change to get it early as well. This is still a beta, but it's stable and solid as far as we can tell. See the change list list below for details.

You can download this as a Registered Download as long as you have registered your Hired Guns serial number in our Members Club (click on the MEMBERS link in the top nav bar).

Change List
Features and Enhancements
• Tweaked game performance during enemy turn so it does not take too long and does not require as much system resources.
Fixes
• Fixed bug where game would be stuck in enemy turn for ever and never progress.
• Fixed bug where player would start a turn with the same amount of AP that they ended the previous turn with.
• Fixed bug where enemies get stuck on the edge of the map which prohibits the player from exiting the tactical screen.
• Fixed performance issue where the game would run very slow after clearing an area of enemies and returning to real time mode on a tactical map.
• Fixed bug where if a player character had a full inventory except for their hands a crash would result in moving an item into their empty hands.

Installed and played for few hours now.
Few observations..

+ Quicker loading times
+ Quicker camera
+ Lesser mouse lag
+ Overall better responses to controlls

But.

- NO IMPROVEMENT TO AI OR CRITICAL GAMEPLAY
-Some weird audio problems with dissappearing explosions, missing gunsound in bursts, extra echo..
-New bug? In the first two maps,my round has suddenly ended when putting character laying prone and after that clicking another prone character (?).havent managed to repeat that consistently. but this is a completely new bug..

But in general, all the same LOS issues, blocked paths, super fatigue, irrational weapon damage (and Reinforces path obviously dont work...),dumb AI etc still prevail.
The patch have propably remedied those crash issues people have had but all the other gameplay issues remain...
Great.

The goal of the patch was to address the crash issues, not to adjust the AI or anything else. I wish we could have fit more into this one, but getting this much from the developers was a job in and of itself. We're going to go back to them for another update after this one, but we wanted to make sure the remaining rare crash issues were resolved before trying to tweak anything further.

Thanks for improving on these issues! Richard Therrien is happy somewhere in retired gaming heaven!

Here is the issue I had with the game that made it almost unplayable for me:

• Fixed performance issue where the game would run very slow after clearing an area of enemies and returning to real time mode on a tactical map.

After I applied the patch, it seems to have fixed the problem a lot! It plays much better now. I no longer get that really bad sluggish, slowness feeling. Glad I took the time to send in that saved game .

We're going to go back to them for another update after this one

Great! Take your time. Not that you have a choice working with them, but that's still awesome.

Patch made it super duper playable for me, so I'm dancing! Dancing in the streets!

Question:

Should the 1.08 beta be loaded over the 1.07 patch or only be used with a clean install?

pad152,

The v1.08 Beta is comprehensive, so it will update any previous version of Hired Guns.

Mack,

Did you register your copy of Hired Guns in the Members Club? Beta versions are only available to registered customers.

Regards,

- Erik

The beta feedback was helpful and given some reports we are holding off our original release time frame. We're trying to release the update as soon as we iron out a few potential issues.

Thanks to everyone for being patient.

They should work, as far as I know. Always backup your save files before upgrading though, if you want to be safe.

you don't know for sure huh? can i back out of just patch 08 if my saves don't work or is it a complete reinstall? someone on the forum must know if they're compatible. i just got the game and don't want to apply 1.08 (even though i am experiencing one of the problems it fixes) if i have to uninstall/reinstall.

In there is a file with a funky name like {123242341=12312312} or something the saves are in there. Sadly they only show up as numbers.

Please keep in mind that is my install path yours might be differant. I am on vista. However it will be in your profile folder.

Much love,

thanks! i too am playing my 1.07 savegames using 1.08. erik, seanD - somewhere on this forum i found some camera adjustments that go in system.cfg that seem to be WAY better than yours (in my opinion). i can zoom way out smoothly and it just seems easier and more fluid to pan around. perhaps check these out. can't remember where i saw them, maybe under the CHEATS topic. i can post them if you want.

wanted matrix to know since upgrading to 1.08 the game has crashed twice, usually when loading a save game (save games are 1.08 too). can't seem to remember it happening on 1.07.001 but i just got the game. played 3-4 days and don't think i crashed on 07, played 2 days on 08 and have crashed twice....hmmm

few crashes with the beta as well. the previous version felt a bit stabler.not much, but a bit.

few instances :

defending against marauders/gov soldiers : a lot of peeps around (20butsis+20perps+mercs+civies) and it gets more propable. only crashed couple though..

few instances in the sea scenarios, when firing a gun, sound doesnt come and the ctd happens. have usually been the ak class weapons (prolly ak102).

But the most annoying problem at the moment is the exhaustion : you can see the few mercs that start to "suddenly" suffer from it.
the problem is that they loose endurance AFTER the turn changes! so if you look at the endurance bar, it suddenly goes DOWN on 3-4 mercs on some rounds, instead of going up as it is supposed to do.
No matter if the merc has lied down, run or thrown stuff. And no matter if the merc is on 130% load or 90% load.
Especially the user created characters seem to suffer from that swine flue. Don know if that is a empirical truth or you just happen to be observant of that characters doings.

The whole game balance is totally borked as you can suddenly have 50% of the mercs twiching on the ground after few rounds.

Forget about "High speed, low drag" stuff..

i got the game recently so i applied patch 1.07.001 but didn't play long before going to 1.08. the suddenly out of breath syndrome hits me too plus a few game ending crashes (seems like when i load a 1.08 save).

but tell me, was this exhaustion thing in 1.07.001 of have you seen it only in 1.08? i'm thinking of going back....thanks

the exhaustion was in the 1.07 as well.
but in that i never noticed the dropping of exhaustion after the enemy turn, so that propably is a new one.
