I have had this game less than a week and still climbing the learning curve.

I am playing the Kokoda Track / Milne Bay scenario. I need to ferry supplies from Brisbane to Port Moresby.

I need to ferry these supplies turn after turn for the duration of the scenario without having to issue fresh orders at the end of each voyage. The manual hints there is a way to do this but does not provide the precise detail. Any body figured it out?

There are also a large number of troops spread out from Brisbane to Cooktown ( do foreigners know how the town got its name?) .

I need to transport these troops by ship and by aircraft to Papua New Guinea. I would like to give orders to the navy and to the airforce to ferry the troops until ALL troops have been ferried.

Naturally, I would also order fighter escorts to accompany them.

Then, both services would continue to ferry troops turn after turn until all the troops are transported. As it is now, at the end of each voyage/air mission, I have to manually load and unload troops.

Has anybody seen a way to automate these actions?

Create a TF in Brisbane with AK ships. Once you create the task force, go back out to the map and click on the task force icon which is now located in Brisbane. Your AK ships will be "idle", and have no destination. Click on the button that says "load supplies". Make sure that the TF has behavior control set to Retirement Allowed, and also insure that it is a Transport TF. Now click on the destination button, to give the TF a destination. The map will come up, scroll to Port Moresby and click on it. You will then be returned to the TF screen. Your TF should now be loading supplies in Brisbane, destination Port Moresby, retirement allowed, home base Brisbane.

This TF will load up all ships, as soon as that is done, it will head out to Port Moresby. Despite the fact that it is set to retirement allowed, because this is a transport TF, it will NOT retire from enemy air ranges until it has reached its destination and offloaded. So, this TF will go to Port Moresby and immediately begin offloading supplies. Once it finishes, it will head back to Brisbane. None of these actions should require any further action on your part. It might be a good idea to have fighters at Port Moresby fly cap over Port Moresby while the TF is offloading.

Also, according to the manual it is good to check on these TF's once in a while as your ships can suffer damage from normal wear and tear and may need to spend extra time in a port for repairs.

Something to do with Capt Cook? Was he not killed in the Cook Islands by natives?

From the perspective of Europeans, Cook discovered the east coast of Australia in 1770. The first siting of land was somewhere in southern New South Wales.

He named a number of landmarks which retain their names to this day – notably New South Wales.

They sailed north eventually hitting the reef just near present day Cooktown. They had to dump the 6 cannon and lots of ballast to remain afloat. The ship was drawn up on the beach and repaired.

The cannon were located and recovered in the late 1960’s / early 1970’s .

Early in his career, Cook also navigated the river during the attack on the French in Quebec. No mean feat.

On subsequent voyages he attempted to find the North West Passage from the Pacific to the Atlantic and charted much of the coast of British Columbia. I believe it was Cook who named the city of Vancouver after his contemporary – Captain George Vancouver.

George Vancouver discovered the port of Albany in south west Australia. About as far away from Vancouver as is its possible to be.

Between them they were great explorers at a time when sailing for a week could be dangerous.

Cook was murdered on a subsequent voyage in Hawaii.

More Canadian connections

After the near revolution in “Southern Canada” (Loius Rial etc) the prisoners were sent to the penal colony of Port Arthur in Tasmania (previously known as Van Diemans Land)

One of the Governors was called Arthur. After Tasmania he went on to command a fort in the wild in northern BC or northern Alberta.

And then there was Franklin. He too was governor of Tasmania for some years. He also explored inland Tasmania and named a river after himself and a mountain after his wife - Mt Elizabeth.

Afterwards he too was transferred to the Canadian north west where he eventually attempted to find the North west passage. His voyage is famous in that it was a tragic failure.

British soldiers of that era, if they were not fighting the French, were stationed in Australia or Canada.

Who was responsible for "cleansing" Tasmania, and why? I thought the natives in Tas were docile.

In the 19th century, native peoples were considered less important than Eurpoeans.

So when the Tasmanian Aborigines objected to the loss of their land they were rounded up and put into reservations.

And of course murder of Aboriginies by Europeans went unpunished.

Its all sad but true.

The last full blood Tasmanian Aborigine died some years before 1900. But there are plenty of people today who are part Tasmanian Aboriginal and they are rightly pround of their anscestors.

You also need to assign the task force to computer control. You'll see something that says "CS Convoy" appear, which means it will continue ferrying whatever cargo you assigned to it until you take manual control of it again. Takes alot of the tedium out of the supply side of the game.

I just wanted to add that if Brisbane is a Barge Hub and you set the Cargo TF to Computer Controlled the destination will change to CS: Port Moresby (Continuous Supply Port Moresby) and the Cargo TF will keep going back and forth supplying Port Moresby until to tell it to stop. You can also add escort vessels to it if you feel so inclined.
