Yeah, I still play this one, with the Viking Expansion and Viking Horde's XL Mod. Anyway, I got tired of the frontend music, so I inserted "Dracula: The Beginning", from the soundtrack to "Bram Stoker's Dracula". It sounds medieval enough, and it works well. I started a campaign as the Hungarians, who own the Carpathian region. As a matter of fact, one of the later Hungarian faction's hero units just happens to be Vlad "The Impaler" Tepes. Romania/Carpathia/Wallachia is not a playable faction.

The Hungarians in this game offer several options, and must counter threats from the petty kingdoms of Bohemia and Serbia, whilst becoming an invasion path for both the pagan eastern barbarians and the western Crusaders. There is also Byzantium, who in the 11th century was still a power to be reckoned with.

This game has worn well, as I tend to focus on the strategic/economic/diplomatic aspects and auto-resolve the tactical battles. The XL Mod offers enough differences to keep this 7-year-old game interesting.

I bought MW2 a few years ago, but never played it. I gave it to my son, but intended on getting some use from it myself. It turns out the key was on the rule book which is MIA-so I can't install it. A pity as the box and CD look like brand new, and I really wanted to try the game-not gunna buy it twice though.

Another reason to buy from Matrix (and watch what you trust a kid with).

How many times have you put a Matrix CD in the drive and then had to take it out again to see the serial number cause you forgot to write it down first? I guess it's no big deal unless you have a drive with a broken door that needs to be wrestled with for several minutes before it agrees to open.

I LOVE this game, it was the last of the TW series that had an even competent and fun AI without heavy modding.  The XL mod just made it even better.

Unfortunately, it won't work properly on newer GeForce cards, which is what I have in both my desktop and laptop now- no more MTW for me for awhile :(

yeah medieval got me started on the totalwar series and in many ways still has the best gameplay but you can't beat medieval kingdoms with the stainlessteel 6.1 mod for pretty pictures (and reasonable if repetitive battles)

IIRC, the setup writes that the CD key is on a disc and on a CD sleeve. The problem is that no CD-sleeve is included. So, it should also be on a separate piece of paper, because putting CD-key on CD only is kinda counter-intuitive.

Well, I like the matrix approach. No keeping up with a million CD keys. With matrix as long as you have the CD Disc you have the CD key.

On topic:I've never had any of the Total War games, I would like to try Empire:Total War but I still have more games on Matrix and HPS to buy.

Well, having a CD-key on CD in case it gets lost is good. Having to write it down from CD is bad.

I have never played any of the Total War games too. I considered buying one some time ago, but it turned out that they are on DVD and I don't have a DVD-rom XD .

Whats so bad about writing it down from the CD? All you have to do is write down a few numbers. Not to sound mean but that's just pure laziness.

Hold on. I've installed/uninstalled The Total War Battle Collection (MTW I/Viking Expansion) several times, and not once have I been asked for a CD key. Of course, it helps that I registered the game when I first installed it.

Did you buy it from a retail outlet?

Yep, I have (?) MTW 2. Hopefully they have the same install format. It looked like an interesting game, but never had a chance to play it.

2 requires the cd key as far as I remember. If you have bought the proper copy, and just lost the key, you may have to use a keygen for it.

I quite agree, V22. I have a document file that consists of nothing but my serial numbers which I update as I go, and which I print out on a regular basis.

Apparently with later GeForce cards, the battle map graphics become so screwed up that the battles become unplayable. Not exactly sure why, but last I checked on the Medieval 1 forums (on twcenter and tw.org) plenty of others were having the same problem and no solutions had been found.

I play Medieval I Vikings sometimes.  I've got a game going since a long time ago like maybe a year or more ago and I'm like the Highlanders fighting the Picts.  I like both the Highlanders and Picts but unfortunately we are jammed in side by side sharing lousy ground and we gotta join up somehow to fight the two great Saxon clans in the south.  The only solution is if you can't join them, beat them down.

you can loose the manual...you can loose the case but if you loose the CD well ya deserve what you get LOL. I generally put a piece of masking tape in the case and write the number on it.

You bitch about everything I have noticed.... what is wrong with simply writing down all of your numbers on a piece of paper, or a spreadsheet on your computer, and simply pull it out when you install a game, that my friend, can be seen... don't know what you are talking about... That is all V22 Osprey meant.... by simply not writing them out is being lazy....

Jeffrey, I got your brownie badge here for you.

I got Medieval 2 Gold and it's pretty cool. I did a warm-up campaign as the Scots and battled the English out of the UK. I set it to map hard and battle very hard for difficulty but not sure what parameters it changes.

I got stuck in a new game now as the Mayans. Here is a photo of my minions extending an umbrella of security over South America. I like these colorful massacres in the picturesque jungle environment. It reminds of the Pacific war except we're using clubs, arrows and hornets as weapons.

I like Third Age: Total War (Lord of the Rings mod for M2TW Kingdoms)

Though IMHO the best of the TW series is Rome w/ the EB mod.

You're right that arrogance should be punished, but I would focus all my energy against the Turks and Egyptians or maybe the Pope because they are the greater evils.

In my game, the happy happy times of the Mayans are coming to an end as Spanish armies mass on our border.

The weather is often rainy in the rain forest (wow huh) so here are my jaguars scrapping on a very wet hillside, wet with both rain and blood, maybe even some sweat.

I managed to cobble together 3 armies to have a staredown with the Spaniards before the inevitable war but the backstabbing English came out of the south in a suprise attack on my one and only village which had almost no defense cause I was juggling units around to make armies. The English did a 2 pronged attack with massed musketeers, pikemen, armored swordsmen and lancers which only attacked after a long cannon barrage taking down our palisade and setting the town on fire to soften up our few defenders. They attacked in a heavy downpour at night to maximize the atmosphere of gloom and doom. Here is the aftermath with the English next to our pyramid and standing on the carnage of the final scene of fighting.

I moved an army out from the eastern coast to counterattack. It is lead by the emperor's son and has all the hardened veterans from the happy happy conquering army but it is a little depleted from the many fights and the teenager leader has no experience in combat. My troops will be outnumbered by the English and shredded by their firepower. But we must put in an attack.
