Take a look at this youtube movie of hearts of iron III.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGGDuW3jrxU&feature=related

Now that is a cool UI. Any chance you guys can covert the AE engine? Just kidding. I know how much energy you have put into the new game. I saw the preview of the manual. Well done. :-)

Looking forward to the game when it is ready.

Cheers,

Anything with "Hearts of Iron" in the name might as well be called "Butts of Chewed Bubble Gum" as far as I care.

Paradox Interactive... well...

I have bought a few product's from them over the years.. one for not more then a year or so ago, and it was filled with bugg's...

After 3 weeks of playing the buggy game I decided it was not worth it, so I sent them a e-mail demanding my money back.
They initially refused, and said something like "as I had used the game for over 3 weeks bla bla"... (as if that matters)

I knew I was right, so I decided to press the issue, and payed them a visit the next time I was in Stockholm (they are a Swedish Company), I brought the E-mail replay with me.

They then Apologized, and said that that E-mail replay was intended for "international customers".
However, as both I and them was in Sweden, it was Swedish law who applied, so I then instantly got my money back and I also got 3 coupon's giving me a 40% discount each, if I wanted to buy any other products they might have... but no thanks!

So, I don't recommend you to buy any products from them.

The video apparently "showcases the United States, from sea to shinning sea"... If you're going to use YouTube as a marketing tool, you should probably learn to spell.

Come on, the EU3 engine is DEFINITELY ugly. I'd rather stick to the original EU1/2 engine anytime. I like good 2D way better than bad 3D.

Actually, HoI III is the first one in my opinion that start to look like something worthy of a (re)try. The map is huge, and possibilities immense. They just have to give you a correct combat and diplomacy system, and I'd admit that's quite a challenge coming from Paradox... Although modders are doing a great job, you can't expect to get anything from the fruits if the tree is downright rotten.

It's not an OR function, it's an AND - I'll be buying both as soon as they're available.

Personally, I've had a lot of fun with HoI; HoI 3 looks like it will be light years better than the last two games. An exciting year for me! AE and HoI3!

I am a HUGE fan of HOI2, and I am incredibly excited about HOI3 as I have followed the design process all along. You can read the Developer's Diaries in detail at the PI websites. Humbly, I would say that the most vocal critics of HOI that I have encountered are those who know the least about it. They were turned off on the first pass, and never came back. But just look how far WitP has come!

If I could only have two games on my hard drive, they would be WitP and HOI.

Ditto. The only other game I really ever play is AGEod's Civil War.

IIRC the main reason for 3d isn't fancier graphics but the need to make the map more easily moddable and to offload some of the workload on GPU's

the only complaint i have with the witp ui is that the exit buttons on the interface screens are too small and are in different places depending on the screen

I always used the big Exit button on the upper left on the keyboard.

I played plenty of Pdox games, and I enjoyed in most of them, except in EUIII. Excellent game, great improvement over the EUII, which is also a great game, but I just couldn't get pass that 3D map. It's just plain ugly. Hopefully HOI3 will be better.

Hearts of Iron is more like a geopolitical simulator, where one has to lead a nation from 1936 till '45 and beyond. You got to consider economy, infrastructure, research, intelligence, diplomacy and of course warfare. It let you create what-if-scenarios, alternate history and build your own vision of europe or the world. In regard to this it's a great game.

HoI 3 will offer more details and micromanagement as it's precursor and I'm looking forward for this title.

I have been happy with Paradox titles. Currently I play EU:Rome with Vae Victis add-on, EUII with AGCEEP, Crusader Kings with Deus Vult add-on and sporadically Hearts of Iron 2. They are totally different from WitP , more like geopolitical games than wargames.

Afaik no. You really couldn't even in HoI2 unless you exploited the hell out of the system (editing savegames, reloading 101 times to get that 1 in a million result etc.)

I wonder if HOI 3 is really much more than HOI 2 with a graphics update.

I've bought HOI 2 and EU3. I like both games, but lets just say I'm glad I got them well after their initial release at $9.99 each. I got a lot more return from HOI 2, but never mistook it for anything more than pure entertainment. Nothing wrong with that.

Should consider Victoria as well if you don't own it already.
