Duel Monitors not supported???

Status: offline 		Why did you make a game that _requires_ a manual in order to play and then not supply one?

On top of that your (game without a printed manual) does not support duel monitors. (as if adding salt to the wound).

Is this some kind of twisted thinking? Hassle the guy who pays for it by having annoying copy protection and then make sure reading the manual is a MAJOR PIA.

You may have a good game there, but 90% of the people who try it will never find out how to play it.

The game has a manual and a very complete one at that. However, it is in PDF form. Unfortunately, until we are an established company we have to make some trade-offs. We decided to put make a great game and a complete manual but not a printed one.

Personally, I have no problem keeping the manual up in an Acrobat window and using Alt-Tab and the table of contents or search function to find what I need, then get back to playing. Everything you need to learn the game is there, though reading this forum will probably help you master it.

As for dual-monitor support, I'm not sure why it wouldn't support that but I doubt we ever tested it on such a setup. As far as I know, none of our testers have a dual monitor configuration. I would guess that a lot of games do not get tested specifically for dual monitors. However, if you can give us some more info and it's a relatively small fix, we can make it dual monitor-friendly in a patch.

Status: offline 		I have bought several games over the last six or seven months with PDF manuals, or a combination of a very small "getting started" manual and a more complete pdf manual. These games have all been from companies much larger than matrix. I personally don't have a problem with it. I either alt-tab or print the specific pages that I need.

Your welcome to your opinion, but if you haven't already noticed, this forum believes in constructive criticism. The Matrix folks are very friendly and genuinely want to assist folks in having a good gaming experience with their games. They listen to comments and criticisms, and they even do admit when they have made a mistake. They do their best to correct them and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Please try to be a little less cynical and give them a chance.

When you get the game installed. Open the manual and read it a few times (us old grognard types don't unless we have to and then it's alt-tab check what has us stumped and then back to game) After you have first read the manual a few times it's importance is vastly reduced. (just reading the UV forums would allow a person who never played a wargame before to play UV even without a manual)
Two monitors? I am really interested in games that require two monitors how does this work? Does it show the same thing on each? (I think this one must be a joke, has anyone ever seen a game that needs/uses two monitors?) adding salt to the wound?
Have you actually looked at the manual? PDF does have a few advantages over paper. You can find what you want fast. It can not be ruined by coffee/kids (you can't leave it in the lunch room at work-only a copy) It's always there when your playing the game

One last little point, Matrixgames is not your ordinary buy the product and then your on your own. UV is not your ordinary it's on the market now it's done game. Overtime UV will evolve. It will be tweeked improved and modified based on what the members of the forum point out ask for or suggest. Matrix is very open and responsive to the people here. We (the forum users) try to be open and responsive without being unfriendly. Nothing will make everyone happy but certainly a majority can be satisfied. I think UV has surpassed what I thought was possible.

Status: offline 		I've a dual monitor setup, and I'd be happy to help test any patch.

However, I already do have the manual setup in the secondary monitor, the problem is that UV captures the mouse and doesn't let it move to the secondary screen, so you are currently left no alternative but to alt-tab.

How hard is the mouse capture thing to fix? (I have UV PBEM galore and this could really make me whacky)

So you just need a PC with two videocards and two monitiors, or do you need one special video card?

Also dual monitor support is not quite the standard when it comes to PC games, so it would be a nice addition but definetly not something to bitch about when it´s not featured.

My XP handbook covers that chapter too, but apart from describing how to set up a dual monitor system it doesn´t cover coding dual monitor support ;).

So if you don´t know what you´re talking about, just be quite or ask a polite question.

1. Both is possible, one videocard that supports dual monitors, or two videocards (although this set up tends to be tricky). OS support depends on the drivers that come with the videocard, but most support all Window OSs from 98 up.

2. Basically a dual monitor set up is like an extended desktop. So, yes it is possible to have different applications running. They only have to support windowed mode, so you can "drag them over" to the second Monitor (extended part of the desktop). Mouse capture is no problem, it´s just like working on a single setup.
