Seems to me port size in UV decides only how fast individual ships are loaded in terms of tonnes/day/ship, and this rate is regardless of the number of ships using the port. This behavior encourages the use of large convoys since smaller convoys do not give better throughput (and larger convoys give better protection). In real life having a stream of smaller convoys is much more efficient because port use is spread over time and waiting in port is reduced. Historically, this was probably the major reason for Japan's procrastination moving to large convoys in the face of the submarine threat.

In UV what I do is I group AP's of the same tonnage together to eliminate smaller AP's waiting for bigger ones to load.

Changing port size to mean "total tonnage moved per day" would make for more realistic logistics. It would also encourage the use of multiple hubs, for example both Rabul and Shortland playing Japan.

The other logistics issue is that supply hubs (and I mean not just barge hubs) are less important in UV than they should be. It's move efficient to move supply directly from Truk to your frontline bases where supply is used, than to have to go through loading/unloading at the Rabul or Shortland hubs.

In real life supply hubs are much more than just refueling stops for ships. Hubs pool together the different types of items that make up supply and allow efficient quantities of each type to be distributed.

In game terms, there should be a "wastage" whenever supply does not come from a nearby designated hub. Together with changing port size to mean "total tonnage shipped", the lost of a major hub port (to occupation or to damage) becomes strategically devastating.

I don't quite understand what the manual says about the port size and the value in parenthesis. Your help is appreciated.

Regards.

The value in parenthesis is the maximum size that can be built up to at normal construction speeds. Beyond that maximum size (up to max size + 3) port expansion takes much longer. Same goes for airfield size.

Hope this helps.
