LST with L-19 grasshopper. They catapulted them off and recovered them with a strung wire,trapeze,tailhook arrangement.

LST 776. This ship was only part of two operations, Iwo Jima or Okinawa. Since they are not taking fire going to wager a guess of Iwo Jima.

I googled LST 776. According to http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/l16/lst-386.htm, "LST-776 operated Marine OY-1's over Iwo Jima and Army L-4's at Okinawa." The airplane looks like an OY-1, so this would have to be Iwo Jima.
