We have the Volkstrauertag (national day of mourning) which is flexible the second sunday before advent. As it is flexible, it doesn't create a connection with a historic event, just with the ones that have fallen, foreign soldiers included. So for me, there's a difference when this day is "celebrated" on a specific date, that caused... well, we all know what followed... Also, I didn't know that this is the day to remember the dead of all conflicts - which makes a significant difference. Perhaps as a "researcher" you might do a little before you take cheap shots.
