i've tried to give NeverWinterNights the same chance as BG but ultimately its just not as good. Still havn't finished the original module

Same here. How they could have forked up a sequel to BG is beyond me, but they did.

Well, Bioware's stated aim with Dragonage was a return to their roots of RPG design. They've achieved it completely. 100% and without any sort of reservations.

Up until DAO, my favourite computer RPG of all time was Baldur's Gate 2. Nothing has ever come close to it before now, but DAO is there.

Sterling review, T. I'll be ordering it forthwith.

Had to look that up. We don't really have that kind of thing here, although some people use community colleges in that manner by going 2 years then transferring to regular university.

On my list....hopefully old high school buddy (whom i played both BG and BG2 with once a week back in the day despite being on opposite ends of the coast) will be able to cut some time out of his schedule and maybe we relive those glory days.

Sounds like a really good game.  I haven't really played any of the computer RPG's.  I have passed thousands of hours over the years with paper, pencil, and dice playing 1st Edition AD&D.  Looked at some of the 3rd Edition stuff when it came out several years ago, but it didn't grab me.

Something about the paper and dice AD&D really engages my mind and keeps me busy pondering and planning.  These days, AE is more than capable of engaging those strategy receptors in my brain.

I just did something I haven't done in over a decade: stayed up all night playing a computer game. That's how fantastic Dragonage is. When the first fully-grown dragon landed in front of my party, I felt about as significant as a flea, and my weapons about as powerful as a snowball in a blast furnace.

Thank you, Bioware.

They've been good at that. When they first included a full-blown dragon in one of their games (BG2) it took me quite awhile to figure out how to defeat that beast...

DAO is a bit more "grown-up" than BG2, though. There are some VERY nasty choices to be made along the way.

Cool, in BG once you made the good or evil choice, it was pretty linear. Minsc and space hamsters . . . good times.

They have a nice selection of what they call "origins stories". You select your class and race as you'd expect, but then you also select a background, and that dictates the first chapter of the story. There's six different origins stories.

Very interesting way of doing things.

I haven't purchased DAO as of yet, but I am highly tempted... I'm supposed to be concentrating on learning AE so that when Chez sends me the new game after patch 2 comes out I will be ready to play... Don't worry, Chez, my laptop can't handle those new games, but AE works fine on it. This means that in the evenings on my vacation next week AE will be my primary pasttime.

So you meant Empire:TW ? As E:TW was released in Feb, I thought you meant the next TW iteration which I heard rumors about that it would be Napoleon:TW.

It's quite possible that they have managed to fix E:TW by now - they have (after all) had 6+ months to do that. I just haven't checked if that's the case. There was one thing that was very good in E:TW (even if the game as a whole was bugged) and that was the naval battles. To call them immersive is a massive understatement. Beautiful as well.

Dang, now I feel bad about stepping on your hopes

Yes, I was talking about Empires (didnt even know about the Napoleon one). Hopefully, theyve squashed all the bugs by now. I just checked and you can pick up a copy pretty cheap. I usually tend to wait until the price drops a bit before buying. The last game I got right out of the gate was Red Orchestra.

Question for you guys. The specs say a 2.6 processor. Mine runs at 2.39 (single core.....yes its a little long in the tooth). Do you think I'd have issues running it?

Hmmm ... I just took a quick peek at the E:TW change-/patchlog. It actually seems that they have fixed most of the things I had issues/problems with. Guess I have to give it a new chance. It's 3rd in line after AE and DAO though.

I had all "Total War" games starting with "Shogun"... loved them although AI was (always) very weak...
