Hi Leo,

Quite good actually. Mostly clear with light, scattered clouds. It's a little chilly though (+3C). And in Zagreb?

Cheers/ Per

So you meant Empire:TW ? As E:TW was released in Feb, I thought you meant the next TW iteration which I heard rumors about that it would be Napoleon:TW.

It's quite possible that they have managed to fix E:TW by now - they have (after all) had 6+ months to do that. I just haven't checked if that's the case. There was one thing that was very good in E:TW (even if the game as a whole was bugged) and that was the naval battles. To call them immersive is a massive understatement. Beautiful as well.

Dang, now I feel bad about stepping on your hopes

Yes, I was talking about Empires (didnt even know about the Napoleon one). Hopefully, theyve squashed all the bugs by now. I just checked and you can pick up a copy pretty cheap. I usually tend to wait until the price drops a bit before buying. The last game I got right out of the gate was Red Orchestra.

Question for you guys. The specs say a 2.6 processor. Mine runs at 2.39 (single core.....yes its a little long in the tooth). Do you think I'd have issues running it?

funny game... Especially as the AI is inactive as usual, more stupid than ever and the native americans march in line like a good prussian regiment

Per, we have blue skies and sun but it is quite cold (5 degrees centigrade) - later in the day it will rise to 15 degrees Centigrade...

You are lucky to live this far south...

At least we have the first sun for several days today...

Hello Leo, Mike and Simon.

Is it recommendable to use Windows 7 with  64bit instead of 32bit?

I read somewhere that the new Modern Warfare game had more $$ in sales it's first week than any of the movies playing in theaters that week.  Granted, it's not "summer blockbuster movie" season, but I think that does say something about changing entertainment interests.

Hello Leo, Mike and Simon.

I made the switch to 64 bit with my conversion to Win7. For me, it was about getting the full 8Gigs my motherboard supports enabled. I'm not worried about backwards compatability anymore for reletively modern programs. For the really old ones, i have a win98 box for that. Between doubling my available memory and going from Vista to Win7, i have a huge leap in available resources.

That's a good reason to go with 64 bit, and a good answer.  Thanks, Nik.

Thank you. Win98 box is an emulator? For free?
How likely is it, that appz and games won't run? Microsoft seems to fight so intense for the market, that they offer everyone at university Win XP, Vista and 7 in both 32 and 64bit for free!

logically, I won't miss that chance to take my share
I have a PC from March, quadcore etc. so it should support all 64bit, I guess? Have lost overview for several years as I stopped reading gaming magazines... - when I started playing witp (for real!)

For anyone still interested - without the intention to restart a new discussion:
It was wrong to start with "why do you celebrate germany's defeat". Every nation has the right and duty to preserve its heritage - and victory over Germany is one of them. While this day causes great pain to me, for good reasons I may explain via PM if needed, I was neither provoced by "Historiker, we kicked your country's arse" nore was the victory itself celebrated which itself shouldn't be illegal either!  Remembering the fallen ones is a noble cause and there's no justification to assault this tradition.

I didn't realized that fast enough and when I was rudely attacked immediately, I better shoud have deleted my first posting and have asked why the "attackers" behaved like they did. This was my fault, and that's simply a fact.

I wasn't wrong in feeling the pain. While you remember your fallen, I remember what this single day ment to Germany and later to most of Europe (and my family). It was our 9/11 and Pearl Harbor together. Still, when anyone claims the others to care at an open place not to celebrate because he has some bad feelings, where will this end? Your victory was justified and that's fate. Neither you nore me are responsible about what happend some months later and that also doesn't dishonor the ones that have fallen!
It would've much more appropriate to write something like "Honor the fallen, but this day was Germany's doom"...

Still, some reactions I faced after this started where appellative. While I wasn't sensitive enough, others seem just to have waited for me to do something they can interprete as the complete and utmost evil - without any intention on my side. Well, I won't miss them to read my postings nore will I miss their's too much.

But when a man was wrong - and I was and no harsh reaction by others changes this - he should stand by it.

(Now I just hope this isn't misunderstood again... )

Only if you need to use more than 3 GB or RAM... I have 12 GB of RAM on my work machine at work and, thus, I had to use the 64bit Vista...

Not a problem. You however are required to ship over a keg of authentic Ocktoberfest bier. Samual Adams just doesn't cut it and my GF's dad (who makes regular flights to Germany) won't part with any of his stash. Bugger!

This might get a little difficult... But do you think iz might be worth it exporting the finest beer of small breweries to the US? (Always looking for options to make money )

Not an emulator....an actual PC.....my old Pentium 4. Recently wiped and reinstalled with the latest powerful software from Microsoft.....circa 1998.

You can download emulators if you don't have a spare box. I tried "DOSbox" but found it too fast for the old shooters i like to play. If you try to slow it down it makes the program being emulated run all stacatto.

So i'm fully geeked out with a Win98 box, a laptop running OS-X and XP, and my Quad envy machine on Win7.

The cool thing now is that Microsoft ships both 32/64 bit versions of Win7 together for one price. Before that you can too choose at the point of sale. What's not cool is that they've gone down further on Apple's road and assume the user is too dumb to make decisions for themselves so they try to create a 2nd systems partition on the target hard drive whether you want it or not. Had to find a workaround for that annoyance. Other than that....liking Win7 so far.

Pretty much any modern PC will run it. The deciding factor though is your memory. If you can sport more than 3ig then 64 bit is the only way to go. (Some say 3Gig....my machine had 4gig running under 32bit Vista.) 3-4Gig is the cutoff for a 32bit OS.

There have been some issues with backwards compatability (64bit OS running 32bit software) but these issues are becoming less and less. Most importantly there've been no issues running AE under Win7 64bit.
