Hi all,

Since you guys started poetry...

Konstantin Simonov (to to Valentina Serova, written in 1941)

"Wait for me"

Wait for me, and I'll come back!
Wait with all you've got!
Wait, when dreary yellow rains
Tell you, you should not.
Wait when snow is falling fast,
Wait when summer's hot,
Wait when yesterdays are past,
Others are forgot.
Wait, when from that far-off place,
Letters don't arrive.
Wait, when those with whom you wait
Doubt if I'm alive.

Wait for me, and I'll come back!
Wait in patience yet
When they tell you off by heart
That you should forget.
Even when my dearest ones
Say that I am lost,
Even when my friends give up,
Sit and count the cost,
Drink a glass of bitter wine
To the fallen friend -
Wait! And do not drink with them!
Wait until the end!

Wait for me and I'll come back,
Dodging every fate!
"What a bit of luck!" they'll say,
Those that would not wait.
They will never understand
How amidst the strife,
By your waiting for me, dear,
You had saved my life.
Only you and I will know
How you got me through.
Simply - you knew how to wait -
No one else but you.

Just read that US Veterans don't have to pay for their funeral?
Great country, it respects those who fought for her!

Nice poem Leo.

Historiker, I am one of those who get planted for free in the marble orchard. Spouses also get planted but you only get one spot, since I'll probably go first she will get to be on top for eternity.

I walked in loamy Wessex lanes, afar
From rail-track and from highway, and I heard
In field and farmstead many an ancient word
Of local lineage like "Thu bist," "Er war,"
"Ich woll," "Er sholl," and by-talk similar,
Nigh as they speak who in this month's moon gird
At England's very loins, thereunto spurred
By gangs whose glory threats and slaughters are.

Then seemed a Heart crying: "Whosoever they be
At root and bottom of this, who flung this flame
Between kin folk kin tongued even as are we,
Sinister, ugly, lurid, be their fame;
May their familiars grow to shun their name,
And their brood perish everlastingly."

Nice poem Leo.

Thanks John!

BTW, IIRC, it was said that the "Wait for me" was one of the most loved poems in Russia in WWII...

Can you post it in Russian. Sometimes the mother tongue makes things better.

Here it is...

Konstantin Simonov (to to Valentina Serova, written in 1941)

"Wait for me"

Now that's funny! I never expected to joke around own funerals...

We remember the at least 7.5 Million German soldiers who died in both world wars, today.

No problem at all John!

BTW, I just tried the "Google Translator" and it did quite usable work (crude but readable)...

we don't
In Germany, there are new memorials for deserters and the memorials for the fallen are regularly destroyed or besmeared...

That's why I adore it so much how the US treat their soldiers!

Pictures? Well... we are shy...

Honeymoon? Not yet... the main outgoing pipe in her old apartmenet broke (where she lived with her mothe and sister) and we spend first week repairing it (bathroom and kitchen gone) and time after that returning stuff to normal... plus we made new furniture in our bedroom... ahh...

It is +17 degrees Centigrade here with blue skies and sun... strange... very strange... (not to mention unhealthy because the flu would spread even faster)...
