I have no problem with the SLR'ing as such, but I don't want him to go away all the same.

Agreed. He's both nice and funny. I apologize (to the entire thread) if I seemed to step over the line. Should've used some smiley

No worries, Grollub. I doubt anyone took offense at your humor any more so than the other (friendly) disparaging comments that are routine fodder for THE THREAD!!! It's like friends or brothers-if they weren't poking fun or kidding, something would be amiss.

So, I return to work on the 4th of January, with more hours and more pay. He literally told me that things were a mess in the department and needed to be put back on an even keel.

Two and a half months after I left, and THEY call ME!

Good news T. maybe they will not be Corporate dumbasses this time around.

<sigh> long evening. Sitting here preparing a presentation on the "battle within the war" between the US Air Forces and the North Vietnamese Air Defense forces that I'm to hold a lecture on tomorrow. Having serious difficulties getting it done so I can go to bed.

Good luck on your presentation. Sounds interesting.

Later . I will be busy holding seminars on various topics during the entire day. Then I hold my lecture later in the afternoon, after which we finish off the day by having a dinner together with the students. I don't think I will have time to elaborate on Rolling Thunder until evening - that is, if I'm in the condition to talk about that after dinner plus "some" beers.

One must have a bit of curiosity as to why Swedes are studying the Vietnam war.

The course is an introduction on (joint) operations. We're using Vietnam as a case study as it's fairly well documented from both sides and a lot of lessons to be learned. This week is an introduction week. Next week the students will be split into two teams, one allied and one North Vietnamese. Both sides will "redo" the operational planning and then we'll wargame both sides against each other.

Fun!

Sounds very interesting how are you gonna wargame it exactly?
A Vietnam wargame that has always interested me is this

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5620/vietnam-1965-1975

But of course if I ever got it I'd never find anybody to play it or probably the time.

Sad that many of those old board games never made it to computers... they would certainly benefit from it in our current day and age...

I think that particular one was made into a TOAWIII scenario. And there's always Vassal.

Has anyone ever tried some old board game in "Vassal" game engine? How was it?

I've looked at Vassal setups for playing Third Reich and 2nd Fleet, but never did anything with them.

I messed around with a few Aide de Camp games. Finding time and opponents is always the issue.

Another beautiful thing about WitP:AE.  Finding opponents is never an issue.  Finding time, now..... When we win Powerball, finding time will no longer be an issue, either.

i suppose. Bummer really. Should have known it was too good to be true. They did not advertise themselves as a staffing company in the original add....then when i got the call, the "recruiter" was typically evasive to some pointed questions i had. Still.....there were some attractive aspects so I did some research. Thank god for research. Big letdown.

ah well.........doing a first in other news. I just finished D'Este's Decision at Normandy which i had picked up at a used bookstore for a steal.......I had noticed that said same used bookstore also had a cheap copy of Hasting's Overlord so I picked tha up yesterday. So for the first time, i'm reading consecutive back to back accounts on the same battle/campaign/subject. Should prove interesting to see another author's take and approach on a battle with the previous account still fresh in one's mind.
