First time I've seen that, pretty cool thing if only I knew what had caused it.

Well, so much for Gettysburg. Wonder what happened to Lee there; he was given so many opportunities to go for a smarter, less costly assault, and instead plowed his troops straight up the middle and to their slaughter.

Severe case of target fixation...

I tend to agree. Jeb Stuart may get a small piece of the blame, and Lee's underestimation
of the Union's reaction, and Lee's overestimation of what his troop's could accomplish, and the hardheadedness of various Southern commanders. Longstreet had a better handle on the situation in some ways I think.

Of course, if Longstreet hadn't taken all day to prepare his assault on the right flank, the 20th Maine wouldn't have been around to contest it. Longstreet and Ewell both screwed the pooch in that battle, leaving Lee with the ignominious choice of attacking or retreating.

Fascinating discussion....but....umm....how do you guys suggest to ever resolve this?

No question, the "natives" are the problem with snow.  I had 5 winters in Minnesota.

Generally, your true southerners freak out at the first snowflake, run to the grocery store to stock up on bread, milk, toilet paper and kitty litter. Once done there they stop off at the liquor store and then head for home. Thus, most of the people on the roads once there is substantial snowfall are either transplants from up north or "young bucks" out ratting around after drinking too many.... all in all, still a good reason to stay off the roads.

A colleague told me about how it snowed (2-3") in GA once......and people were abandoning their vehicles by the side of the road.

How did I miss this? You are wrong. You have us misfits as well.

Good morning all! Extremely snowy day (for Alexandria Virginia) tithe! Having a great time watching people trying to deal with snow ! Plow drivers who've got no concept how to plow, pedestrians who don't know how to locomote thru snow and people who can't drive in the best of times , let alone during a mildly heavy snowstorm! Very entertaining , in a peverse "Dr. Evil" sort of way. It's great fun to sit up in our high rise sipping coffee and cocoa and watching all the mayhem below! Life is good (cause we don't have to go out!). (Insert long evil chortle here!).

We should be getting some end of that shortly.

Oh, and on the subject of that thing at that place we talked about, I'll try to make it out there tomorrow, road conditions permitting. I dont want to go today for fear of getting stranded there. Besides, given my line of business, I know what happens when it snows, and I'd just as soon stay off the road.

Please don't hurry or go out of your way on my account. I've been looking for those items for several years , so they are definately nothing I need any time soon . Actually I don't Need them at all, I just find them and their cultural aspects facinating! Thanks , and have a safe trip west!
