I'm in the Matrix fantasy football championship this weekend.  If I win, I'll get a free Matrix game download.  This is how I got WitP 3 years ago.

To absolutely be sure I won't win, I'll jinx it now by asking for recommendations for the free game if I should win.    I have AE.  What else could anybody want?  What are your favorite non-AE Matrix games?

I don't have either one, but I would be interested in Eagle Day and War Between the States. I believe the later uses your selection of leaders as a major determinent in the outcome of the game. Sounds interesting.

I've got (and enjoyed):
Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich (EDtBTR).
Flashpoint Germany (FPG).
The Operational Art of War III (TAOW).

I've also got World War One, but I'd say that it's better to wait until the gold version comes out sometime next year. Plus it can be buggy which puts a lot of people off.
TAOW is old now, and showing in the graphics. But if you like your turn based games then it's a cracker. Plenty of the individual scenarios in there are more than you'll get in some games, some are even covered in AE. And there's hundreds of them, from Korea to Normandy to hypothetical like a Commonwealth invasion of Zimbabwe or a US/UK conflict with the EU.
Flashpoint Germany, I got plenty of use out of this in the desert. It's another one that's getting on a bit but is still a good play. There's not as much to play through as TAOW, iirc there's about 12 scenarios for the UK, US, West Germans and French(?) forces on one side and the Soviets on the other. No campaign to speak of, just a selection of scenarios.
EDtBTR is what it is, plenty of aeroplanes and such. No direct ground forces or naval stuff, just the various Air Forces to deal with.

I've not got/played any of the ACW stuff, it's not really in my area of interest.

Avatar, can't wait to see it, hope it is as good as 'they're' saying.

Incidentally as anyone ever meet one of these 'Dreaded all knowing Them' that tell me what is best for me, and what I should buy?

I won't be seeing Avatar. A film that's been so massively hyped has to disappoint.

I took my son and daughter to see Avatar last Wed. She liked it more than he and I. I did not dislike it, but....

It is too long imo, and the basic plot is sort of tired and worn out ; basically " Dances With Wolves " in outer space. Thus I don't think the story has much going for it. But on the other hand it is a well imagined fantasy universe. And the CGI is well done. So all-in all I can say go spend the bucks to see it on the big screen. But I do not see myself going back, or even watching it again a few years down the road.

Just came back from seeing the new Sherlock Holmes. Very entertaining, though not for Holmes fanboys (which I'm not, thankfully, just a fan).

Main issue is with the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes. He's entirely too handsome to play him...

Cool I really want to see it. A guy I work with said its pretty good as well now if I can convince the wife to go. I did see her vampire movie so maybe she'll go see this

I am actually a Sherlock Holmes fan; I had read every single one of the novels and short stories before graduating from High School So I will probably go see it, but will just take it for what it is, a fun action movie, not a Holmes story per se.

It sounds like I should wait until the DVD is $9.99 or less...

I'm considering getting that, or maybe Borderlands. Or Tropico 3.

It is as much an " event " movie as it is entertainment. It is a three hour investment of time, and if you take your family ( there were four of us, my son's gf came along ) then with tickets and a modest amout of popcorn and drinks, it is an $ 50 investment in hard earned cash. We did not see it in 3D, so I do not know if that adds a lot to the experience.

I'm curious about Avatar, but I really want to see Holmes.

Just watched The Dark Knight yesterday afternoon.  I enjoyed the movie greatly.  I thought Heath Ledger was as good as advertised, and I thought his character and the entire psychological storyline bordered on brilliant.

You should definitely see Sherlock Holmes. It's an interesting new take on the Holmesian world...

Jude Law is better as Watson than I'd feared (I'm not a fan of his acting); Watson is not as sycophantic and worshipful as he is in some of the stories, which is nice, and he actually walks with a limp, like he's supposed to.
