ORIGINAL: Apollo11 Hi all, quote:
ORIGINAL: Dixie Seeing as most of you guys are foreign... Does anyone know why foreigners feel the need to try and talk to British people in an (poor) impression of a British accent? What do you mean MArtin? BTW, I was always told that I speak with American accent (and not British) in all accoasions... Leo "Apollo11" Every time I go away (mostly to North America it has to be said) there is always at least one person who hears us talking and wanders over with what seems to be either an impression of Dick Van Dyke circa Mary Poppins or Queen Victoria circa 1900. And did I mention they are terrible attempts. Don't feel bad, every Brit I've known here either thinks North Americans talk like Texans, Californians or , God Forbid, Archie Bunker style New Yorkers. Even they don't say "Turdy-turd street". Only Brits trying to be NYers do. Your lot has never heard of Canada , or even discovered that there ARE other parts of the USA. On the other hand , it's easy to sound like a Londoner....Just sound like you are from somewhere else! no people try to talk like texans and try to have a texan accent and people from texas just look at them with a puzzled look. we really don't have that much of an accent the only thing we do different is use the word yall. and actors trying to do a texas accent are the worst. james vander(*(& in varsity blues is a prime example of this.
