Hear, hear ! Job well done pasternakski. You have summed up our many accomplishments very well.

Now we just have to figure out which one is which on the picture.

Surely it's obvious. Left to right, Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill.

I don't think they have to actually die, just remove themselves from the genepool. Being dead is the most obvious way of doing it, but (iirc) there is the other way.

By having Mr. Winky permanently detached?

No, just Tweedledee and Tweedledum. That's sufficient.

I wonder....would Mr. Winky still function if the Tweedles are detached?

No it does not. At least in the breeding mode. Science has proven this.

Not to mention estimating the size of Mr. Winky.

Really? I thought the stuff that activates Winky comes from the pituitary, not the Tweedles.

No sir. It requires testosterone, which comes from the Tweedles. Without them, Winky becomes Wimpy.

This was the whole idea behind using eunuchs to guard the harem.

Yuri, you missed a chance to see a good hockey game tonight.  My Canes were up there at Nassau Colosseum tonight for a win over the Islanders.

Yep, they worked the same way. Removed testosterone from the equation so the vocal cords didn't lengthen and thicken. But they retained the larger male vocal apparatus that is present early in life. Basically it made for an uber soprano.

And since I'm a singer I'll add an additional tidbit. Men do not lose their ability to sing in the female range. This is what the countertenor is all about. See Chanticleer.

For instance, I can sing notes from G two octaves below middle C to the G two octaves above middle C.

Tell ya what, if you make it up here to see the matchup again, I'll not only gladly join you but will also buy you a drink with equal pleasure.

I have a baritone....and all kidding aside, I cannot hold high notes to save my life. Maybe it has something to do with smoking, but there it is.

Nope. At least one lad is a prerequisite for normal function...

Another quiz......brought to you by yours truly

Name this engine................

Rolls-Royce RB.23 Welland??? (which powered early Gloster Meteors)

Edit: Not a Welland. The manifolds from the compressor disc to the front of the combustion cans in the photo above are different to the Welland in this picture.

Isn't anyone else going to have a go??

My second (and more likely) choice is the General Electric J31 which powered the P-59 Airacomet.

RR Derwent?

It's an early turbojet engine, I'd say British (or Allied) in origin because it's actually there (and iirc the Germans were working with axial flow engines). Single stage centrifugal compressor and single stage turbine mean it's early, iirc it was early 50s when twin stage centrifugals started showing.

EDIT: Not a Derwent, looks to be the wrong shape. I'd probably say that Reg is right, not least because it's probably an American engine
