JWE called in for his evening checkin. They are over three hundred nautical miles down the track. They are averaging much over 11 knots. Wind is from the NE and backing North and the spinnaker is up with a staysail. JWE thinks a low pressure building over the south US will move southeast and give them a big push so he is heading for windward passage between Haiti and Cuba direct. He says to say hello to Mike and wishes he will have fun too.

MO

Hi Mo! Pass along my best to John. I just got home from a week of sailing classes at the coast of NC. We really only had one good day of sailing weather, either too calm or too stormy the rest of the week. We did a lot of motoring and learned a great deal. My wife and son loved it as much as I did, so the prospects of a lot more sailing in my future look good.

Well I see we made it to page 1000 on the " old " thread. I sort of miss it for some odd reason.

Once again, it seems that my copy of AE is operating differently to everyone elses   Zeroes are shooting down my planes   And now, unlike seemingly everyone else, an outmatched IJN 'force' beat a superior Allied naval force.  1 IJN DD took on 3 Allied DDs and 4(!) cruisers and sank Le Triomphant   That name is now a bitter irony, possibly the worst until I get Invincible or Indomitable sunk

You don't like soft shelled crabs??? My wife will have yours, thank you.

All caught up now.  Just changed my browser home page from the WitP forum to the AE forum, since we've "closed the book" on the Classic THREAD!!!  PM'ing Joe now.

No , it's the "soft shelled crabs, go ahead and eat the whole thing, shell and all", thank you very much. At which point I'll bring up The Downeaster (Maine ) equivalent. "Oh yeah , soft shelled lobsters, go ahead and eat the whole thing, shell and all!". And some dumbass tourist would always try it.

I am beginning to think there is something wrong with me. I have been happily playing AE since it came out, and am having a blast. I have no real complaints. Other than not having enough time to play

Nope. You've just been drinking enough. Clearly some around here need to mellow a bit.

I've got no real complaints either, it all seems to be working fine aside from a few under-escorted invasion forces.

EDIT: Complaints about combat results are always subjective, and usually along the lines of WTF my guys lost and I'm not happy about it. Or the more common of late: I had a Zero shot down by a Buffalo and only one Buff was shot down, you guys have nerfed the Zero so it's useless....

The big plus point about being on SVC duties and therefore away for most of the month is that I get to buy lots of new books to read when I'm away...  So far this month:

Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh
Watching Men Burn, Tony McNally (a Falklands war book)
Flying Dutch & Faust Among Equals, Tom Holt
Forgotten Soldier, Guy Sajer

That lot might last me for a week or so   I might have to re-read a few books as well, Nemesis is a definate possibility as it's quite thick

I don't want to lose these guys, they've given the local Zeroes a kicking over Java Although if it wasn't for the forced withdraw I don't think they would have even gone to Java, so they've done OK for themselves They've even outscored the AVG and against better opposition

I've always like the 'cane since I first built an Airfix kit of it. So much sturdier than that show-off the Spitfire. And it shot down more planes than the Spitfire in the real BoB but the Spit fans try to keep that quiet. Spittards.

Maybe that should be in the dictionary... The thing is that all fighters are show-off

Woof !! We are maybe 100 miles out, the little green light came on about a half hour ago, so I'm swapping satellite providers: death to INMARSAT. I can link to my home source, so hope to gosh this gets out. Have to say that third world countries have way better wireless links than we do; I'm thinking fork AT&T and all the little clone baby Bells that followed that rat cluster.

Whoah, fun stuff. Lots of reading to do. We have a few hours to go before we make the breakwater, and then we turn the corner and tuck into Shelter Bay for some I & I and a real washer/drier and a solid hot shower.

Okay - will start transit tomorrow (Sunday). We have a Pilot and between him and the Skipper, I'm just a tourist on this bus. So, have laptop, will commo. Will be good till sometime late 18th

Ciao. John

Well I'm signed up for some Matrix fantasy football, getting my butt kicked by the new AE AI, I think I'm over my head, but in a good way.
