I've spent some time in the past virtually cruising over the "boneyard."

Google maps or Mapquest will find it in a search. Then select satellite view.

Look at the broken-up B-52s. They were deliberately left there for Soviet satellites to see as part of arms limitation talks.

I've spent some time actually cruising over the boneyard. I've done several deliveries (P=3's) and a couple of "pick-ups" (a EP-3A and several parts runs). It's an impressive , but sad place. They give tours, and have a historic "guests" row.

They have a "guillotine" , actually a large sharpened blade that they drop from a cherry-picker crane. Every bomber they cut up in at least four big sections, then leave them there for at least a month. Usually a lot longer.

No , not for a very long time. As a strategic bomber , the B-58 would have been cut up almost as soon as it came out of service. The few left are in air museums. Saw one once when I was a little kid at the Pease AFB open house in the mid-60's. A beautiful aircraft. They had it parked between a RAF Vulcan and a KB-50 (a super-B-29). That was quite a sight!

Are there any B-47's around anymore. My home town was a B-47 base when I was growing up and many of my friends were the kids of pilots and crew. I got to sit in the cockpit of one when I was in 5th grade. They didn't let me take off, though.

Sure , many air museums have them. The USAF museum at Wright Patterson AFB , the Museum of Flight at Being field in Seattle , and the SAC Museum in Omaha Nebraska are among three of them. I'm sure there are others , I recall seeing several as "gate sentries" at USAF bases I went to in the 1980's. You might watch for Jimmy Stewart's Stragetic Air Command movie as there are a lot of B-47 (and B-36) shots , internal as well as external.

Here's a list of some museums that have B-47's preserved. http://www.b-47.com/preserve.html#anchor662647

It's a possibility. It depends on my work schedule, of course, as well as how brave I feel. If somebody wants to get me to confess to something, all they have to do is make me drive in DC.

We had the last one at ground zero DC (7th and Penn. ave). How about the next one in Northern VA?
If you are interested , I'll post a new thread.

Sounds like an idea. Would be good to have one in case you end up vacating the area.

I can confirm that the National Museum of USAF in Dayton, Ohio has both the B-47 and the B-58, plus many of the WiTP planes. I was there last April on a hometown visit.

Congrats to Canada, but I am very, VERY disappointed (read "sickened") by Russia. I'm OK with seeing them lose, but I also wanted to see a game, not an execution. Missed defensive assignments, a defensive jumble, Nabokov played like a hole, but his defenders left him completely exposed, one side heavy for some reason, did not cover any passes....I could go on for days. The bad sportsmanship at the end was just icing on the cake.

All set for Finland - Czech Rep. This should be a good show (especially when contrasted with that f**kup we just watched )

Not a great showing for Russia, and Canada seems to be getting their team game in gear.  It's tough for most of these teams to get used to playing together with so little time before the games start.

I'm going to watch some of Finland/Czech Rep before heading to bed.  The Hurricanes have 2 players on the Finland team, although one of them is suspended for this game for a bad hit last game.

Interesting you say that, since the team never actually showed up.

But I'm enjoying the heck out of the Finn-Czech game so far. Its looks like one of those where all hell is gonna break loose in anyone scores.
