Big day of smokin pig tomorrow....no, I'm not going to be killing policemen or whatever else your demented minds took that to mean.

I will be smoking lots of pork low and slow over a hickory fire which is what we in the South know to be actual and definitive barbecue. Burnt sausages or beef patties covered in charcoal dust is not barbecue. That is called compost.

And barbecue does not include beef. Beef is good. I do like a good smoked brisket, to be sure. But it ain't barbecue. It's smoked brisket. Barbecue is pork, always has been and always will be. I have all the historical documentation I need to teach you Texicans why you are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

Enjoy your Memorial Day fellas. I'll be cooking and mowin and drinkin and generally livin it up for all those who gave their lives on our behalf.

Little Martian dude-

This sounds a whole lot like a 'pig pickin' that was a regular activity in Pennsylvania when I worked there. I'll be doing some boatin', cookin', mowin' and drinkin', guess no formally accepted 'Barbecue' (sic) in my life today though.

Remember those who served.

Heh. I guess my subject / verb agreement was a bit awkward there, wasn't it?

I've got a car to wash this morning, followed by a 90 mile drive with the top down to pick up our son at his grandmother's house.  I slept until 0930 and have fresh, hot coffee.  Life is good.

Isn't it, though?

I woke up at 5AM this morning, thinking I heard opera playing. Turns out it was a car alarm...

Wagner as played by Opel perhaps? Maybe an arrangement of Gioacchino Rossini courtesy of Fiat.

Thats pretty much what I thought. And then there was a separate conversation about p-40s vs Oscars IIRC.

Yup. You can guess the nature of that.

Ride of the Valkyries would make a good car alarm.

Whew! Busy day. The pork turned out great, though I will use more wood next time. Reminds me why I only do this once in a while. It's too much like work.

Did you beat the rain?

I spent 3 hours scrubbing my car inside and out, then drove to Reidsville to pick up Alex.  I hit the rain just past the 40/85 merge.

Interesting pic of the new Russian bird.

I do think it's a bit disparaging to cite Russian aircraft designs as simple copies. Sounds too close to what one used to label Japanese planes. I look at it this way. There's only so many ways to build something. A plane has to have wings, one or two engines and a cockpit. A stealth design can only take certain shapes to minimize signature profile. Was the Sherman a copy of the T-34 simply because it had sloping armor?

IIRC an analysis of the MiG-29 and Su-27 showed distinct differences despite it's similarity in appearance to the F-15.

Then again sometimes a copy is a copy. The Russians reverse engineered the B-29.

Happy Memorial Day. GF is being subjected to a day's worth of War Movies. She can't believe that Uboat commanders had to rely on crude recognition books with inked drawings of enemy ship silowettes. What.....no Ipad's?

no Ipads.

Think the Brits would have willingly maintained that 'license' for the MiG 15 engine or might that have been another example?

Morning Tithe...

Never said a damn thing about ALL Russian designs being copies. Said that particular Sukhoi was a copy, which it is.

Either way, almost finished with Foote's Civil War. Damn thing's taken almost as long as the war itself to get through...
