Hi all,

I just got the supoena for my first performance review at the hospital. I've got until August 3rd to either find a new job or fake my own death...

Hmmm... I don't understand Kristian...

You got subpoena from whom?

Hospital (I thought only court can do that)?

If it is hospital why is that so difficult (i.e. show what you did to hospital management)?

Leo "Apollo11"

P.S.
It is subpoena and not supoena...

So it is... Thought it sounded wrong when I wrote it.

Hi all,

Commuter Train in Jakarta, Indonesia

Men hung onto an overcrowded commuter train at Sudimara train station in Indonesia as they traveled to Jakarta Thursday. A train ticket for a 31-mile journey costs about 1,500 rupiah, or 13 cents each way. A railway official said at least 26 people died falling from trains in 2008.

It seems to me that your only choice is #1. If you fake your own death, you'll still be needing a new job (unless you manage to make off with millions of the hospitals Euros!).

Holy cow Kristian! Just what in the world did you do to get into that fix? Was it thinking that having a coffee or a beer at the Sommersko is better than showing up for work? or telling the admistrative 'powers that be' just how beaucratic and stupid they really are ? or renting out your 15 year old female patients to American businessmen?

Wha'sup Termie? Why are they doing this? Why you gots to go?

Take it easy... It's the annual performance review, and everybody has to have one. Still doesn't mean I have to like it, considering how pointy-haired my boss is.

I guess i'm the only one who got the punchline.

It helps to have serveral "Dilbert's" up in my cubicle....including one where my Hero opts to "Fake his own Death" rather than attempt to answer a technical question for a dept he doesn't work with.

Post work tithe.

Rain is about to start. I think I know why poets and other lyrical souls are so fond of summer rain. Its because the immediate precursor is the next best thing to a steam bath. Any resolution of that state seems sublime.

Then again sometimes a copy is a copy. The Russians reverse engineered the B-29.

Think the Brits would have willingly maintained that 'license' for the MiG 15 engine or might that have been another example?

I think Stalin said it best. "What fool will sell us his secrets?"

answer: A British politician.

Or basically anyone in the Manhattan project.

From memory it's a Canadian Hurri (Mk XII?) sometime in the late war period (1944 iirc) after the VVS decided the Hurricane wan't front line material. Although they decided that fairly early on didn't they? They rejected any with more than 20 or so flying hrs, which was about what they'd gain from initial flight testing.

Havent run across any Hurricane related material in my readings. I do have a few memoirs by guys who flew the P-39. The feedback seems to be overwhelmingly positive.

I've read a few different accounts and they generally make the same points (claims?). When the Russian pilots got used to an enclosed cockpit they found that the Hurri (and other Lend-Lease fighters) had better quality glass than Russian designs and they were fitted with radio as standard. However they didn't rate the .303 MGs and many were replaced with heavier Russian MGs. By late 1942/early 1943 the VVS didn't really want Hurricanes (they wanted Spitfires) so they started to reject large numbers of Hurris, any with previous RAF service were automatically rejected. I think the Hurri got mixed ratings, better than the I-15 and MiGs at the time deliveries started, but worse than the LaGGs. It may be the other way round though. The Vokes filters didn't help the performance much either.

I recall reading about one incident, fairly early on, where the Russians took a crated Hurricane (from memory a MkI for a CAM ship) that wasn't meant for them for Arkhangelsk. There was quite a bit of wrangling over this Hurricane, I think it was several months before the RAF got it back, and by the time it was returned it was (a) obsolete and (b) corroded but we demanded it back to make a point apparently.

I've got no idea why the VVS would really want Spitfires, they were clearly not suited to the Russian campaign. Poor airfields and generally sub-standard fuel weren't good for the Spit.

The biggest issue I have in regards to this is that my understanding of the mechanical and design virtues of these birds is very limited. From what I know, however, the MiG-1 had a number of serious issues that did not endear it to pilots. There are various references to continued improvement of the model to be found in both memoirs and later historical works. That is about as candid as Soviet-era writers got on such a topics, but it is no less clear if due attention is paid to the subtext. The LaGG, however, seems to have been a much better airplane (better than the Hurri?).

I do have a book somewhere by Yefim Gordon that records a Soviet reaction to the Hurri as less than positive. Something along the lines of, a bad plane that won't dive or climb IIRC. That said I am sure most pilots would choose the Hurricane over the I-15, or the I-16 Rata. At least I would

Modified by the Soviets for use as an artillery spotting plane, complete with rear-facing MG.
