If anyone was going to score for the US it was going to be Dempsey, especially as I decided not to have a wee bet on him scoring I'd have to say it was a lucky goal rather than a good one, from that distance they all fall into one of those categories.

Not a bad game, certainly there was potential for more England goals and the US could (should in fact) have scored when Altidore got his head to a good cross.

They've already started pointing out that we drew the first game of the '66 World Cup

I enjoyed the match. Much more so that we got a (gracious gift of God) point out of it. Altidore should have scored on his breakaway that hit the post. I was less impressed by the header.

Anyway, England has a solid side with real striking power. Our keeper had to make some serious saves. One thing I must say is that against pace in the front, England's D had exactly one play: the takedown. Must have counted 10 of them.

As much as I love listening to football commentary in a nice brogue, I'll be watching the rest of the matches silently because of those butt horns.

Saw The Departed last night. I was not all that impressed. Perhaps I it was because I was expecting something deep and philosophical.

Back from a weekend getaway with the wife. Very nice respite.

How're our Limey friends doing with the draw? No one opening up any veins (yet), I hope?

No, that's an excuse. They'll praise a 1-0 baseball game for being a masterpiece but curse a 1-0 soccer game as boring. Don't worry. Once the baby boomer generation and their stupid prejudices have died off, America will become a football power. Just about every kid born after 1970 has played soccer growing up. It's the 40 and up's that don't like the game. Because they are idiots.

Nah. I don't agree with this.

While I agree that playing (good) futbol requires a great deal of skill, I don't think that it (futbol) requires any MORE skill to play than jai-lai, lacrosse, cross-country equestrian, BMX racing, competitive gymnastics, NASCAR, NHL hockey, etc., etc.

It's not necessarily a prejudice, but a forced popularity contest that has turned many people off. Americans are told (by those that enjoy futbol) that they *should* enjoy futbol because it's very popular elsewhere in the world and that we're missing something by not appreciating the popularity of futbol. *We're* in thr wrong somehow-seen as primitive knuckle-draggers for not liking what the Europeans and Africans do.

Much like I *tried* to get into NASCAR to appease some of my Southern friends-but I couldn't. Not that I'm prejudiced, it's just not my cup of tea. I've tried it and found it wanting. So be it.

I'm allowed an opinion, am I not? Vive la difference and all that!

Oh, lastly...don't suggest that my parents or I are idiots for not finding this to our liking, please...
