No, that's an excuse. They'll praise a 1-0 baseball game for being a masterpiece but curse a 1-0 soccer game as boring. Don't worry. Once the baby boomer generation and their stupid prejudices have died off, America will become a football power. Just about every kid born after 1970 has played soccer growing up. It's the 40 and up's that don't like the game. Because they are idiots.

Nah. I don't agree with this.

While I agree that playing (good) futbol requires a great deal of skill, I don't think that it (futbol) requires any MORE skill to play than jai-lai, lacrosse, cross-country equestrian, BMX racing, competitive gymnastics, NASCAR, NHL hockey, etc., etc.

It's not necessarily a prejudice, but a forced popularity contest that has turned many people off. Americans are told (by those that enjoy futbol) that they *should* enjoy futbol because it's very popular elsewhere in the world and that we're missing something by not appreciating the popularity of futbol. *We're* in thr wrong somehow-seen as primitive knuckle-draggers for not liking what the Europeans and Africans do.

Much like I *tried* to get into NASCAR to appease some of my Southern friends-but I couldn't. Not that I'm prejudiced, it's just not my cup of tea. I've tried it and found it wanting. So be it.

I'm allowed an opinion, am I not? Vive la difference and all that!

Oh, lastly...don't suggest that my parents or I are idiots for not finding this to our liking, please...

I just don't like soccer all that much. There are a lot of sports I don't like all that much, basketball, hockey, tennis, motor sports. I watch a little baseball. I play some golf (can't stand to watch it). When it comes to baseball, it is a lot more fun in the ball park than on the TV.

Well, Germany looks to be a sweet side. Man they are crushing the Ozzies.

I have no problem with those who simply don't like soccer/football. I respect baseball for the skill involved but I'm not drawn to it.

Those who attempt to pretend it is not a demanding sport that requires absolutely the hightest (above ALL other sports) levels of conditioning and skill are simply deluded louts without the benefit of sanity to grace their lives.

Dude, much as I would like to agree, I just can't. American's have a social inertia of hundreds of millions of people over generations, that think football is played by armored, steroid taking, gladiators. We are basically serfs to the media mandated pile of NFL pig vomit.

Could get better if you killed all the lawyers and could get some some City leagues (kinda like Manchester United, or Woof! Green Bay!), and maybe some State leagues? Right now, every kid who grows up playing futbol has a choice when he/she turns 18 - pick another sport or go into software development or real estate. Maybe we could have some real City leagues, or real State leagues?

Gosh all hemlock; 4 - zip, and Germany still has two thirds of their front bench on the field. Hey guys !! This isn't a Terminator movie !! Jeez, can ya kick it back a notch? I mean I really think it's you and Brazil, and so does everybody else, but darn - winning is cool, but grinding faces into the turf seems a bit outre, know'msayn.

Sorry, mate-you're smoking crack. I've yet to see individuals that can beat gymnasts or long-distance swimmers for conditioning. Deluded lout? Step back a bit, Mister.

A lot of high-end "elite" football players are amazingly brittle, and incapable of lasting a full 90-minute match. I'd mention triathletes as a category of sports people who have to be in better shape than footballers.

As much as you hate to hear it said, Kristian, cycle racers certainly fit the description of athletes with a higher level of conditioning than futboll players.

JWE, we do have a professional soccer league in the US - actually we have multiple leagues similar to the British setup (with a premier league and lesser ones feeding into the premier league). The sport is growing in the US, but may never approach the level of popularity that American Football has. Americans throw silly amounts of money at the professionals in our best known sports and the money is beginning to be seen in professional soccer - but, again, there is much more money in the other sports due to their popularity levels. This causes most of the best athletes to look to those sports for their chosen careers.

No, I'm not. While gymnasts have tremendous muscle endurance and swimmers as well, I can promise you they do not come close to the necessary levels required to play 90 minutes of international football. They do not. They are not required such time frames and do not train to last for them. Period. Nuff said. End of debate.

Sez you. You're full of it. Period. Nuff said. End of debate.

Don't substitute your very general 'levels of conditioning and skill' broad brush comment earlier with a more specific definition of what you countenance as necessary skills to play international football in more recent arguments.

Fact is, it takes different body types, different physical characteristics, different abilities to excel in different sports. What makes one a fine swimmer may not make them a good gymnast or futballer. I don't think its possible for anyone to say conclusively that one game athlete is 'better conditioned' than another that excels at their respective sport. Different needs, different abilities, different body conditions will better suit different phenotypes to different sports. For anyone to say categorically to the contrary (and identify the sole possible sport that rises to the pinacle of conditioning) smacks of ignorance, sir.

How are Deutsch press predicting the World Cup for Der Fussball Machine?

Will Miroslav Klose manage to beat Ronaldo's scoring record?

Miro? Hm, ok he shots one goal, but to beat this scoring record there must be more of those. The goal itself was ok.

Poldi did like he ever did...but do you see Müller and Cacau...that was beautiful!

The press meaning is mixed. Some are full of good words, others say this won´t be that easy against other teams.

I say that was a good game, with good tactics, combinations, but the final game is far away and every team who is in the match are the best óf the world, so Germany can still be defeated from all of them. Australia had the tactic of a surprise attack in the beginning and if that was successful, they had propably stand back to defence.

The beginning surprise had worked, but without the goal.

Germany and the cup....i personally don´t believe it.
