Exactly what I was thinking. I'd need to make sure that the track was laid properly and the electrics are all connected correctly. Then I'd need to run in all the train motors. I can imagine CLare's face if she came home and found a miniature Flying Scotsman travelling along a scale replica of the London to Glasgow rail line

What scale are you going for?

None for now, I think 7 months is probably a little bit too young for a trainset

Bloody charities, I already give you �8 a month. Yes I know that there's flooding in Pakistan and that things are bad. But no, you cannot have �100, bugger off! I have no spare cash, so no you can't have �50 either

What scale are you going for?

I would say I'm a closet N-scale model railroader, but mine are all packed in the attic, not the closet.

Get the train for yourself Dixie. Josh will develop a love for trains as he see's you enjoying it! And you can always justify it to Mrs. Dixie with "I could be drinking in the pub with my mates, but instead I'm home playing with my son". She'd have to be heartless to resist that line!

THERE'S your problem! When you give on a regular basis , the money you provide is used for administration of the organization to sell your name to everyone else and let them know that "your a soft touch". What I do is once a year (usually Christmas time) my wife and I decide what charities to support , then provide a cash, anomous gift. My favorite stunt use to be to find the coldest , most miserable looking bell-ringer for the Salvationan Army and drop a big bill in the kettle. Besides the joy of giving, I always got the joy of watching someones eyes bug out (in a good way). I stopped doing that when they went to "professional " bell-ringers (people hired for the job).

i suppose you guys in USA have the same thing as we have here in France: once in a year (usually just before christmas) there is a huge tv show going for 48 hours, to have funds from the public, for a disease (myopathie, just don't ask me to translate i have no idea).
At first, i was thinking this could be good. Once i knew Claire , she told me that she was very upset that there was no such big show for her cancer type...or for cancer of any type. THis indeed sounded strange: why to save one kind of disease and not the others.
And a few years ago, a foundation supposed to fight the cancer proved to be only a vast crooks-thing for the president of this firm to earn money. Never agin did Claire give anything. Even now that she is cured.
And i am very very cautious about charity....too much false firm.

I still haven't figured out if that guy was trying to pick a fight or really needed help. A guess after a few decades of dealing with college students, I give them the benefit of the doubt the first time.

I'm always a little bit wary of things like that that come from an apparent newcomer. It could always be a known troll with a new user name.

I guess I'm just overly sensitive. About a year ago I was warned off by threat of suspension when I tried to warn off a "newbie" from a unreliable player , and that was by using PM's. Now I hear someone doing it on open thread and it's OK?

My first thought was perhaps English is not the "askers" first language. But I do feel that was a "inapproriate" way to ask. I'd have been much happier had the poster asked "who are your favorite PBEM partners" or something of the like.

Post high school reunion tithe. It was really fun and interesting to see old classmates from 40+ years ago, but the old familiar high school rituals surfaced on cue once the initial greetings were exchanged.

Biker dudes and chicks roared onto the scene. Eventually doobies were lit as darkness settled and the music blared even louder. The hottest of the former hot chicks arrived fashionably late, wearing skin-tight, low-cut, breastage-revealing outfits, in desparate attempts to recaputure the glory of yesteryear.

Yes, nothing like a high school reunion to confirm that my path of non-conformity has been well rewarded. I was constantly reminded of the old proverb: "There but for the grace of God go I". Thus I am ever grateful to Belmont High.

I have managed to avoid my 5 year and 10 year reunions so far of course if I want a spontaneous reunion I can visit several watering holes in my old city or in Boston and find former classmates.

The only reunion I heard about was our 20th several years ago. I decided to get married that weekend instead.

Passed on my 10 year one. I didnt want to see those loser when I was in HS. Why would I want to see them 10 years later.
