Has anyone every had a situation where the replay showed something glaringly different than what the turn reported?

In an on going PBEM game, a replay file showed the Union winning a large ground battle in Bowling Green. The battle went on for quite some time, and had one Union Army in Nashville reinforcing the other in Bowling Green, being attacked by 3 CSA formations converging on Bowling Green and the battle went on for quite some time, including the death of a Union division commander, and the wounding of 2 Union brigade commanders, but ultimately the Union won and the Rebs broke off.

Same replay showed an outnumbered, CSA Naval force managing an upset against a depleted Union Naval force in the Mouth of the Mississippi.

But when you opened the actual turn, those results were not there.
The Naval battle was a handy USA victory, and at Bowling Green, the USA lost a decisive battle, no generals were wounded or killed, and only 1 division from Nashville reinforced the battle, not a whole army.

Obviously the turn is what matters, so we have pressed on, but has anyone ever seen this type of behavior before and have any idea what happened?

That's odd. Probably a dumb question, since I'm not even sure you could PBEM if this weren't the case, but are you sure you're both using the same patch/version?

When PBEM replay was first implemented a year or two ago what you're reporting was a bug that was so difficult to find that it delayed release of that patch by at least a month or two (and cost me personally several hours as I tried to trap the bug!). We did finally eradicate it, and there has been no report of this since that patch was released. Which is why I'm wondering whether something else is at play here.

I have not asked my opponent, but as the NW calculations are working correctly for city captures, I would be fairly certain we're both using the .12 patch.

We have played 30 turns and that's the only time I have noticed it, but I have not watched every single replay. If it happens again I can save the file if you wish.

You could try sending them the saved game file for them to see what you're talking about if you still have it. I've sent Eric several saved game files when we found "issues". That seems to be the best answer.

Good Hunting.

I'm pretty anal about keeping the PBEM folder cleaned out, deleting one turn as soon as I get the next. But I'll ask my opponent if he still has his copy.

I usually keep 3 turns. But I delete the email as soon as I send it back.

Where you might find that turn, is in your opponents "sent" folder of his email, if you have deleted yours. Often times the emails we send stay there for a good long time.

Good Hunting.

Gil;

My opponent had copies of the files. Where can I send them to be looked at?

Paul

I follow Mad Russians lead. Keep a few in case something goes wrong and you need to resend.

Gil;

First, to be sure I have sent those files to Erik as we discussed.

Second, I have had a repeat occurrence of this bug, same opponent, but new game. I can and will send those files to Erik as well, but in the mean time I have a question.

In your opinion, when this happens and the replay shows X and the game file without replay shows Y, which one should be considered valid? Should the next turn file be the point at which play resumes, or should we play off the replay file?

Thanks for the recommendation Eric.

I'll send you the new set of files this evening when I am home.
