Of course, the manuals will have to be inserted into each game box. It's too bad that the folks at Customs can't accept the idea that the "printed in china" sticker will be placed on the manuals as they are being inserted into the game boxes, thus saving time and work...

While the immediate issue is purely the fault of the original shipper, a contributing factor is the US Congress, which has imposed the ridiculous "Country of Origin" laws. Realistically, how many of us, besides the unions and a few over-reactors, give a rip about where something came from? Some do, yes, but I'd venture to say most of us are interested more in value (price vs. quality).

That said, thanks to Erik for the honest and thorough explanation.

Well said. While it's easy to speak about "made in America" and how to keep products made in the USA, the reality is much different. We live in a global economy and very few items are truely manufactured in the U.S. using 100% components also from the U.S.. Add to that a byzantine patchwork of customs laws amassed over the past 200 years and you have a system so complex that AE looks like a simple game of checkers.

Erik, hopefully you will be able to get the country of origin stickers in place quickly. Otherwise you will find out how much customs charges to hold and store the freight for you. It's not cheap.

I give a rip... Lead painted toys... bad milk... I concur that it probably makes little difference in regards to the manuals but that made in xxxxxx sticker makes a difference in what toys I purchase for my children...

I'm not in any way cracking on Matrix for trying to save costs - those cost savings are probably passed on to us that purchased the boxed game. But sometimes you get what you pay for when you go with the lowest bidder.

And ditto on the thanks to Erik for sharing with us the nature of the delay. I find the PDF manual to be just fine to get me through until the real thing arrives.

Im working in shipping/transport and you story sound all to familiar.
And if it's not customs (anyware in the world for that matter) that delays just that importent shipment some airline/trucking co. or seafreight expeditor will decide to leave your shipment behind because they overbooked space .

Not to mention %#$@& couriers that sent your parcel to downunder when it have to go to Norway just becuase someone typed a wrong but similar destination code .

I can go on and on but the blood pressure is rising allready

Out of curiosity... are there any photos of the printed manual?  Just wondering what you actually get for the extra $20.  Thanks.

Yes, you´re right.
I´m working in Imports Department in a Spanish company, and all of our suppliers are from China. And we´ve this kind of problems almost every day. Sometimes it´s a mistake from supplier´s warehouse side, sometimes they are very meticulous at customs with little issues (for example, things like these "printed in China" labels), etc. Mundial business situation is very complicated, and these kind of things don´t help to the companies in time of crisis. Goverments should know this. Formula is very easy:

delivery delays or mistakes = bad relationships with customers = business decrement

Anyway, I ordered "WitP: AE" last Tuesday (by the way: my Order Status shows that you still didn´t receive confirmation of my bank transfer payment! I´m waiting for an answer now...), both physical and digital downloading, but I would like to receive my physical copy of the game with its original box and its manual because in my collection all of the games are with their corresponding original printed manual.

I think there´s no problem if we´ve to wait one week or two for the printed colour manual...

And thank you Erik for your information!

P.S.: this is my first post, but I hope to post more often in future. At the moment, I´m reading and learning from this great forum. There´re very interesting people over here, with a vast History knowledge. I will inform when I receive "WitP: AE". And then, I´m sure I´ll post almost every day!!
Kindest grds. for you all!

No update on the US side yet. I was hoping to see shipments going out for the UK side today. If they haven't there must have been a delay in the warehouse, I haven't heard anything though. I know they have everything in stock, in which case I would expect them to be getting through backlog on Monday.

Thanks for going the extra mile and keeping us posted Eric.  Not many outfits would share info or tell us about the problems as you've been doing.  Honestly with the digital download and my having printed the manual the arrival of the physical shipment isn't an issue for me.

Thank goodness for the digital download, how true!  I can wait for my hard copy, but then I've got some WITP time under my belt and only need to read the digital manual now and again.  I feel bad for the guys who can't play without a real manual or for whatever reason can't do the digital download.  But I can't fault Matrix, they are doing all they can.

The alternative would have been to delay the download until all of the boxes were ready ... don't suppose there many advocating this process!

Thanks for rubbing it in...

It's very easy for you to talk when you already have the game by download to hold you over while everyone is posting screenshots and saying how awesome the game is...you have no idea....if you didn't have your Download copy you wouldn't be talking....

Opsrey, relax!

No one is trying to rub anything in. Everyone here is discussing the new game. I understand you don't have it yet, and it's frustrating, but you need a better place to work out that frustration. Have patience, grasshopper!

Dont blame the Bureaucrats for something done incorrectly, it isnt the Governments fault, its the Pinters error which causes this.

I work in a world of moving explosive devices around the world, you wouldnt believe the red tape involved, and I am sure you are happy that these devices end up going to the correct users rather tha rushing them through  "because we are in a hurry!!!"

We even have to explain what an inert training device is, painful but I'd rather the Customs people to be vigilant rather than good at pushing through the deliveries.

As for using 3rd world countries for the work, in the USA you are starting to see what we have for years in having our labour costs price ourselves out of business.

PS.   First time pysical as well, only because of the discount, I intend to keep it Mint and sell it in a few years for $1000.

Ok, the latest news is as follows. Customs (so far) has agreed to a conditional release of the manuals to us, but we can't actually ship them to you until they approve the label placement. So we're expecting (hoping) the manuals to be in _our_ warehouse on Monday morning along with all the little labels. Our warehouse staff will then attach all the little labels to the manuals, which we expect to take one business day. At that point, customs will inspect them and hopefully approve them. As soon as we have their approval, they will start shipping out. This is for our US warehouse, which serves the US and Canada.

I did not get an update from our UK warehouse today. If no one received shipment confirmation on an order, then I'm assuming we will see orders shipping out from there first thing Monday morning UK time, at which point I will also be trying to ping them again for a status update. I know they have everything they need in stock at this point.

Regards,

- Erik

Well I don't have it yet and I'll advise you to relax.

At any age, getting this worked over a game is not good for you.

You can't change when it will arrive, and it will arrive soon.

So be calm and enjoy the other things in life until it does.

Virtually nothing is printed in the US any longer. I've managed to get a few books published, and not one of them was printed in the Western Hemisphere. Singapore usually, or China. It's the way of things these days. Frankly, I would have been shocked to learn that the AE manuals had been printed anywhere else.

As for customs, they're whacko all over the world.

I'll relax, but here just some of the reasons why I'm getting worked up...

1)Its being delayed because of a fcking(excuse me) ''Printed in China'' Label. That's lame.
2)I only have exactly 30 days of summer vacation left.
3)It could take up 2 weeks for me to get this because I ordered from NWS, so its going take 1 week for Matrix to send AE copies to NWS, then its going to take yet another week for NWS to ship to me.Added the fact that I have limited vacation time left, you can see why I'm pretty worked up.

Why??

Does Matrix promise delivery X days after order??

Did you expect the Fedex Guy to knock on the door 5 minutes after you placed the order??

Matrix, in trying to service its customers, made the mistake of doing the release before the manual was in country.

Silly mistake for trying .

Erik, next time hold the release for a few weeks and these guys, and only these guys, will be happy. Or find they'll find something else to complain about.
