In running the full campaign scenario as the Japanese, I got a strange intelligence report on the Dec 12th, 1941 turn. For total Allied ships sunk, the number 7 was shown for a total of 603 points. When I look to review the specific ships sunk, 15 ships are shown for a total of 1196 points. In reviewing the ships sunk, several of the ships sunk on the 10th and 11th were never included in any previous combat operations. The report indicated that several BB's were supposedly sunk near Lahaina due to air attacks on December 11th and 12th; however, the Japanese had no air forces anywhere near that area during those dates.

To verify the status of the sunken BBs, I ran December 12th turn as the American and found the BBs still afloat and headed to US for repair well beyond Hawaiian waters. Therefore, I believe there may be a glitch in the program that requires attention regarding the reporting of sunken vessels.

Do you have fog of war on? If it is all bets are off regarding the accuracy of reports.

It's very possible that those BB's still had too much flotation damage to make the trip back to the US and sank at sea.  The "cause" listed in the sunk ships report would be whatever caused the initial damage.  I suspect that was a certain infamous Japanese air attack a few turns earlier.

I have the fog of war on. But shouldn't the total number of ships reported sunk should reflect the number of ships reported sunk from the data file that gives the names, causes, and sinking dates of the ships sunk? Whether or not these ships were actually sunk is not the problem, only the internal consistency of the data reported in the intelligence report. In all the years playing WITP, I never had this problem.

It doesn't appear that you can take the sunk ship list to the bank anymore in AE (a good thing?). I had the Zuikaku reported on the sunk ship list as sunk the turn before I sunk it. (It was damaged when reported sunk.)

With FOW on, everything reported now must be carefully.

It might be correct, or on the other hand, it might be misleading.

No more WITP crystal ball.
