SOPAC
Forces are now in strength on Kavieng, and moving to Manus as well as part of THE PLAN.

A stack of engineers arrive on the West coast and will be moving to Australia... the engineering effort now available in amazing!

SWPAC
In the SWPAC our Beufightesr sweep Dili, but loose against Tojo. we loose 12 BF to 1 Tojo, and our squadrons have now culminated.

The B-24 Hit Dili nicely, but get no aircraft on the ground. They must be LRcaping from Alor. Dili is now moderately damaged.

B-17 hit Boela against light CAP of Rufe. The results are predictable and Boela is probably now closed.

This will allow us to take the next small step forward in this area. Plenty of time, no need to rush...

The B-24 units are effectively now at half strength due to aircraft damage.

Amobon has a lot of fighters defending it, can't do anything about it for a while.

More engineers unload at Hollianda as does airsupport. In a few days the Paras will be ready for another leap up the coast.

Otherwise the rest of the map is quiet. Another CVE just arrived, with 2 more to come in the next 3 weeks. More subs also arrived.

Tony is away so I'm doing the lot at the moment, so much to move! I head to London in 24 hours, but will have the laptop with me.

Cheers

Rob

We hit Dili fairly heavily, getting a Tojo on the ground. Dili is now closed. Lautum is being hit by B-25 to keep supressed. We also hit Manokwari on the Nth coast of PNG, but we loose 3 B25 to the Rufe CAP. We sweep Boela and Babo against light Rufe CAP.

Next turn we will land at Babar with an Aussie independant company landed via APD.

We are flying supply into Biak in preparation of mving forces in.

This is all tightening the noose around Ambon.

SOPAC
Forces are now preparing to invade PONOPE. This will bring TRUK under medium air range.

Kavieng will soon be a level 4 airbase.

Manus is building forts, then port, then airbase

Australia

Around 500,000 points of full is in the process of being delivered from the middle east and the westcoast.

Moving supply forward. Many ships in docks undergoing Oct refits.

Centpac
Quiet as forces are moved around.

West Coast
Lots of engineers have arrived and are about to ship out.

NORPAC

Moving forces around. Adak now level 6 port, plus 244 naval support. Ground troops are being thined out though. Around 20 subs now based from Adak patrolling the Kuriles and Inland sea.

China
At Kukong we now have 2300 AV behind level 3 forts. They are flying in supply, as we have blocked the main supply routes. This turn our AA shot down 4 Topsy. We have now stalled them on this axis, they don't have the troops or supply to continue.

Tony has managed to trun China into a nice stalemate... well done!

With Rangoon open supply is now flowing through to China and starting to accumulate.

Cheers
Rob

Never fear we are now back underway, working on the latest patch, several overseas trips and a busy end of financial year (in Australia) conspired to place the game on hold... we are now underway again!

Cheers

Subs
Several attacks by us in the Kuriles, no bangs. Their aircraft on ASW keep finding us but no damage.

Around Milne Bay - Rabaul we have 5 Japanese subs detected. Milne bay has 36 Hudson and 18 Kingfisher on ASW, Rabaul has 36 Dauntless on ASW and we have 3 ASW TF chasing the subs around the ocean. Our ASW skills are improving but so far no hits. But we are supressing them so our convoys (which are largely routed Shortlands way) aren't being hit.

The Light blue line is the Convoy routes at the moment, sometimes I send a heavily guarded convoy direct just to encourage them to keep their subs there :)

Indo China

We are halted waiting for the last two bdes to march up (they were on 45...) We will bombard then attack with 2600 AV. To the north we have caught up with the Imperial Guard... but as it is a single bde (48th Gurkha) we will just harry and work their flanks.

We are pooring supply into Rangoon as quickly as we can, around 200k unloaded/ing now, another 200k a few days away and another 200k a few weeks away.

We are also mining Moulmein in case they try another bombardment.

The blue lines show air attacks.

We land unopposed at BABAR.

We have closed all the close airfields. Their is light and intermittant CAP over some of these. We will keep bombing to build experiance (and hopefully a few more aircraft - we have no reserve) before we move onto the next deeper. The aim is to build some fighter bases so that the deeper targets can get escourted.

Supplies in this area are OK. Fuel is low. Darwin has some Dutch CL's and Merauke a CA TF, otherwise not a lot in the area shipping wise. The shipping is concentrating at Townsville to support future operations...

On the nth side of the SWPAC AO forces are now well established at HOLLIANDA with the 5th US AF, 3 BF engineers and some combat troops. More are on the way from RABAUL. Forces are about to now step forward to BIAK via air from Merauke then from Hollianda.

We are very spread out here...

Apart from the subs all is quiet. Forces are preping for PONAPE.

CENTPAC
Forces will soon depart Suva for Maleope.

USA
The Fleet is almost finished the upgrades and should soon be leaving.

NORPAC
Thining forces out. ADAK is a nice base for the subs to operate from, and we have a strong presence in the area :)

Subs
One of our patroling subs hits mines at HAKODATE, and subsequently sinks. I think this is the 4th sub we have lost to minefields. Partly due to my incopetance, partly due to them "reacting" after convoys. This is a very important thing for Japanese players to do, you can choke off some of the access routes this way.

Of MILNE Bay our ASW aircrews are starting to get their eye in, 4-5 subs are hit from the air. Our patroling ships continue to react after the spottings... we are starting to get a handle on their subs in this area now, I'm sending a convoy through to see how it goes. Once we have sanitised the area I don't think they will come back.

Indochina
We catch and attack the 36th AA Bn on the coast with 3 Bdes... the result is predicatable. But this is delaying our advance on TAVOY and gaining them precious days to improve their defences.

Our air attacks against the Imperial Guards Division are met with opposition in the form of Oscars, and we loose around 6 Blenheims (even though they were escorted.

In retailiation we hit UTTARADIT with B-17 getting several Oscars on the ground.

We bombard the stack and cause light casulties. The last two bdes have now moved up and next turn we attack with around 2600AV.

12 Netties sortie against a TF off RANGOON. They are shot from the sky. Happy for that to continue :)

More supply unloads at RANGOON. We have restored civil order and the industry is being rebuilt. The Burmese people are returning to their day jobs as the emergency Burmese ary units are disbanded.

A large Chinese Corps (now almost 650AV!) is moving from India to Burma... the police in its path are put on alert!

SWPAC

We take BABAR. Supply is now unloading. Engineers and a BF will be moved in soon as well. I'm expecting a retaliation though so I'll wait a few turns.

Attacks by Mitchells against MANOKWARI continue to go unescorted and are intercepted agin by Rufe. We loose another 4-6 Mitchell. This is unsustainable so attacks are stopped. We will visit here soon with B-17.

Our B-24 and B-17 units continue to plough mud and get experiance aginst targets in TIMOR and at BOELA. Soon they will move on to the next series of targets (once BABAR is up and running). Slow steady and methodical at this stage. Shipping is now starting to really build up at TOWNSVILLE. Units are prepped for several locations (principally AMBON and BOELA) and once AMBON is closed as an airfield we can commence an attack.

Forces have now been flown in to BIAK, and HOLLIANDA is now a level 4 airfield, so the next leap up the cost is underway.

SOPAC
Quiet. Building at MANUS Is and Kavieng to protect MADANG/RABAUL from raids, and to prepare to project power against TRUK and support a landing at PONAPE.

CENTPAC
Moving forces and consolodating positions.

USA
Half the fleet is out of shipyard, most of the rest are out next turn, with straggelers over the following week or so. They will put to sea next turn.

Frantically shiping fuel to Australia. We have enough, just, but it is a constant struggle.

Supply in China is beginning to improve a bit now that RANGOON is open... but we are being very cautious about where the supply and reinforcments are going. I think we are in stalemate...

Cheers

Rob

Subs
we do three attacks, no bangs. We hit 2-3 subs off Milne bay, it looks like they have all bugged out as none are detected for the first time in a long time.

The question now is do we push on across the river against what looks to be a fresh div dug in, or turn around and move to BANGKOK...

We are now 1 hex from TAVOY with 3 bdes...

More supply being shiped in.

SWPAC

The usual air attacks. This time our sweeps against the RUFE are very succesful, after not shooting any down in about 2 weeks we down 10 in a day... maybe the weather was clear and they couldn't run...

They detect our troops at BIAK,

The rest is quiet. Fuel is finnally starting to get to acceptable levele in Oz, and more is coming. The first CV TF leaves the west coast to RV at PH.

In Oz Perth is now crammed with troops for the forthcomong offensive... with more on the way.

Cheers

Rob

Ok the decision has been made, Raheng shall be secured as flank protection, then the main axis will shift to Bangkok.

Subs
Off WAKKANAI in the Northern Japan we hit and almost certainly sink xAK Hiteru Maru.

Off Milne bay we detect and prosceute a sub contact to little effect.

The subs appear to have left teh waters around Milne bay.

Indo China
We halt and rest before moving onto Raheng. New orders to be issued soon.

SWPAC
The usual.

USA

More of the fleet comes out of refit and begins to move to PH. The last few units come out next turn.

Overall a very quiet turn. Next turn will be a long one for us as we plan to reorganise...

Cheers
Rob

In the Indo China area until now we have largely been reacting to the enemy, and seeking and exploiting opportunities. That phase is now drawing to a close and it is time for some more deliberate and major actions. The problem is we have stuff spread from here to there, so we need to finish what we are doing now and concentrate.

Orders

Burma Command
Mission: Defend Burma and Northern Thailand (Incl RAHENG)
Forces: No change (actually Burma command may loose some arty units - TBA)

Eastern Army
Mission: Seize BANGKOK.

Tasks:
Seize RAHENG.
Build RANGOON as a base of support
Advance on BANKOK via MOULMEIN and RAHENG

Forces:
XVth Corps (still moving into theatre, currently forward elements at MADRAS)
XXXIIIth corps (still moving into theatre, currently forward elements at MADRAS)
2 Direct comd Divisions.
1st Australian Corps
(total around 10-12 Divisions eventually)

IIIrd Indian Corps
Mission: Concentrate MADRAS and RANGOON (less units at Darwin), prepare for amphibious operation no earlier than Jan 1943.

IVth Indian Corps

Mission: Concentrate RANGOON and prepare for amphibious operations no early than Jan 1943
Tasks:
Seize Raheng
Seize Tavoy

The clean up tasks are RAHENG and TAVOY. Port Blair will be left to rot. A base may be built in the Andaman Islands somewhere else...

Situation 26 Oct

Blue lines indicate the future Eastern Army Axis of advance.

Armour will be used on the flanks to dislocate defensive positions (I.E. the secondary route to BANGKOK).

The airfore will be reorganised to support the tactical ground battle.

When I get the turn I'll post the exact losses. So far looks like a draw. The biggest issue for us is the loss of Wellingtons. Fighters we have lots of replacements (less P-38) Bombers are critical.

Cheers

Rob

Finally got the turn, here are the airlosses. The P40K are operating at max range, hence the high ops losses, but we didn't loose as many pilots. With 70 P40K in the pool we can afford to loose some...

The bombers however hurt.

In Indochina a Japanese TF is sighted in the Andaman sea. It may run in to bombard at Moulmein?

At Moulmein we have 3 bdes, we will bombard this turn.

The forces are halfway to Raheng and are now in combat formation.

Naval forces are gathering at Madras to start transporting new forces into the area (XV and XXXIII Corps) and to start pulling units out for future operations.

Quick update, only Burma really doing anything.

We sweep Tavoy from Moulmein with P40E and K and P38F and bomb with B-17 against significant fighter opposition. The cominations of good aircraft, good to very good pilots (60-80 experiance, and 70-90 air skill) results in a blood bath for the Japanese (Oscar in particular) who are LRcaping Tavoy. Results below.

Next turn our mega stack will arrive at shock attack at Raheng as it crosses the river.

Next turn I may try an attack at Tavoy.

An enemy TF is still in the Andaman sea, it looks to be CV's (CS and BB's detected) probably trying to intercept Rangoon based convoys at long range, or hit any invasion force bound for Port Blair (there isn't one). At the moment thoug it is keeping far enough away that it isn't impacting us. I am concerned though that they will send in a BB TF to hit Tavoy... we can't afford the troop losses, although I have begun moving a Chinese div forward to assist if required...

Here is the map at 30 Oct. Blue circles indicate points of contact, in particular we have contacted an enemy unit outside Bangkok with the Aus 6th Div Recce, and are in Tavoy waiting to ensure we will get a good attack.

Offshore the Japanese TF is circled in red.

jrcar, great your battle continues!

One small question: What speaks against cutting off the Rahaeng area by moving to Bangkok directly and blocking the rail to the south
instead of driving the Japanese troops in that direction?
