I really need patch 2 so I can start my game.  I'm done with the turn but keep tweaking it waiting for the patch.

Keep in mind, that what we will hopefully be releasing this comming week will NOT be patch02, it will be the patch02 public beta. Some people think these are the same things but they are not. The release of patch02 is at least 2 weeks out, allowing for one week of perculation for the public beta. But there is a 99.999% chance that patch02 will contain differences from the public beta - hopefully good differences!

Hey, I don't do no perculation of the public beta. I'm a good man. That's the kind of thing best left within 4 walls -- someone will end up in jail if he does perculations in public all the time.

Note to self: don't let my daughter near a programmer, these public perculators.

ok, since only sounds like monsoon will be a non upgradable, and we assume that monsoon will b in Beta, why not simply start under beta, the players next massive game, then upgrade to the released patch?
sorry if I am confused by the rules of the "battle of the patch"

Uh, oh.. I have been perculating for years before I go to sleep, as soon as I wake up in the morning, and I have even been know to perculate in church. Why, I have even participated in public perculations, usually with multiple other perculators, and have even paid for it... Oh, My. What will my parish say?????

The analogy of taking a lump of coal and turning into a diamond would not be inappropriate.

I also want to thank Andy and all the guys that work on the AI: it's light years ahead the witp one. Well done!!!

Heartily second that!

Update on patch 02 status:

We continue our weekly build process, but this week is a bit of a milestone because I think we are now "critical mass" in terms of the items we have in the build. Testing will probably run for about two more weeks and we will continue to squeeze in whatever we can with an acceptable risk/benefit profile.

At this point, I would say public release by 27 Oct will not happen. I'd say it feels like we are about 2 weeks behind that goal at this point.

So probable schedule at this point looks something like "public beta" by about 3 Nov and patch release by about 10 Nov.

As regards "public beta". Actually I'm still a bit skeptical about whether we should be doing this or not. I see pros and cons.

The cons for me are that I guess I am used to being responsible for testing and so I worry about asking the customer to help with that. So kind of a "philosophical" issue for me.

On the pro side, to really adequately test something like this, equivalent to how I would test this in my day job, would take up to maybe 150 people several months. Or shall we say 1000s of person-hours. And there is no way we have that kind of resource available on our team. Hence the idea that some of you helping will find things we miss.

But back to the cons, some of you may view the "public beta" as if it were the actual patch. I would not do this. I would not patch a serious ongoing game, unless I really believed that the game was broken. But many of you will, probably most. I just would warn about equating your expectations regarding the "bug free ness" of the public beta, as compared to the same standard applied against the official patch, once it is released. The official patch will include additional changes as well as many fixes. So, I would recommend testing the "beta patch" as a testing activity. Create a separate instance of the game and apply the beta patch to that game and test. Keep that sepearate from your serious games.

jwilkerson,

Thanks for the update. No worries re: the time frame. As you've indicated, I'm quite satisfied with the vast majority of game play under patch I. Neither of my PBEMs are 'broken', so I will wait for the 'real' patch and avoid the public beta for both of my serious games until it's ready. I appreciate the heads up on the nuanced differences between the beta and the actual patch too.

Thanks for your hard work and dedication.

When someone asks why is the game so expensive, they need to told because of the support like this, months after release, new features are still being added and the game is still fully supported by the developers!

REST MODE - that was part of your problem.
When the enemy starts lobbing shells you should be in combat mode, sitting in the trenches, not rest mode, lounging around in deck chairs and playing cricket

I said well rested. They were in reserve mode. They get really slaughtered if in combat mode.

If it is possible, please make in this or next patches possibility to air attack on Aden and Abadan atleast. This bases in RL are very close to map edges. In my PBEM game I feel like I was fooled... in april 1942 I was chasing with my CV's opponents 4 BB's and other ships... and he simply moved them for repairs to Aden port.

Maybe some comfort can be found in the immortal words of Johan Andersen, LGP of PI:
