Hi Divepac;

Regarding the zeros sweeping HK. I think this is a bug that was supposed to have been removed... If you had AC on escort you could end up sweeping instead under the local commanders own control

Hi back Wobbley,

Ramjet did it again today, and here is 2 entries I found in the combat events log for 12/16/41;

#Escort of 16 x A6M2 Zero from Tainan Ku S-1 loses contact with raid, proceeding onto target Hong Kong#

#Escort of 21 x A6M2 Zero from Tainan Ku S-1 loses contact with raid, returning to base#

I'm just starting to think that he has some Zeros coming in low to look for my MTBs, and these guys are the top cover. My MTBs out of Hong Kong sunk a large transport loaded with troops on the 9th of December, so he might be after them. My MTBs are long gone, as they crossed over to Bataan on the next day. So maybe with all his shipping in the area he was trying to knock the MTBs out before they did anymore damage.

Manila still no go. he'd do better using those fighters escorting to HK to go to Manila in sweeps.

I retreated a recce unit that was in contact, hopefully this action will slow him down, as he will have to concentrate before he closes again.

This is an operation that I am running tonight with POW’s Squadron, against what I suspect is the Kucking invasion force. I know he will have a covering force, but he probably thinks that I have to come from Batavia. I use the new air-search arcs, and was overlapping this area so I spotted him yesterday, and got POW and Co in position overnight.

The point is he may think that I won’t get to Kuching from Batavia till tomorrow with a naval force. So his covering force which I expect will include BBs or BCs might be a day behind. You will also see from the map that I have mined Kuching. I also have 3 Dutch fighter sections in the area on LRCAP over the POW. Kuching will be recced by fly-boat from Batavia in the morning, plus all Dutch and Brit bombers in area are on naval attack.

I wonder why you don't attack at Ichang.

My opponent did it with the same troop configuration and in 2-3 days, I was obliged to retreat (loosing 40 % of local AV in the process ).

Hi sval, yes Ichang is a very exposed position for the Japanese, and they should really withdraw. But Ramjet is an aggressive opponent, so he will try and hold it. I already have the only road southeast of Ichang cut by a good Corps, but he is moving a large force up the road out of Hankow. So I am in no hurry to take Ichang, if it falls it falls, also his advance options from Ichang are limited. If he wants to hold Ichang he will have to commit two divisions plus, and these are forces he can’t use to attack Changsha. But having said that I will assault the city tomorrow, but I don’t expect that I can take it before his relief force arrives.

If you manage to cut him of and then force him to retreat, those units will probably be destroyed and as sval said, you might have the strength to do that. Killing off some pretty decent troops in China isn't a chance you'll get often, so go for it.

Sorry folks… Ramjet and I have decided to restart with the unhistorical first-turn, because of the shipyard changes etc. Also both of us made some early mistakes with the new systems, and we would not want to restart when we got six-months in.

I must say though that this game has a very realistic feel to it now, and the Japanese player cannot be guaranteed air-superiority anymore. Will attempt to start another AAR, but time will be a factor as I have another single PBEM to restart from WitP, plus a new 2x2 PBEM.

Thank you for the support and comments, sometimes when I’m tired after a long turn it takes some commitment to do the AAR, but knowing that people are reading it makes it worthwhile. I also wish all you guys good luck in your new games, and remember the new secret to the game is search arcs.
Cheers DP.
