I don't know if this problem has been reported before, if so I apologize in advance for making redundant thread.

Anyway, I found a way to make at least two japanese air squadrons completely disapear from the game. The squadrons in question are 70th and 85th Sentai flying Ki-27 Nate, based in Mutankiang. If I transfer them to Kanko they simply vanish without a trace - They are not in Kanko, not in Mutankiang, not on air group list and not on reinforcements list. I can transfer them to Harbin without a problem. Also I can transfer other air units to Kanko without problem as well, it's just those two units that disapear (that I know of, haven't tried all of them).

I tried the saved game from few days before, same thing. It would be nice if someone else tried to replicate this.

I have the save if anyone wants to take a look.

Are you sure they are not in your reinforcements because you sent them by rail ?

Yes I am sure, when I send them to Fusan they are on the top of aircraft reinforcements schedule with "Organising" instead of arrival date. But when I send them to Kanko, Genzan, Anshan or Nunkiang air squadrons are nowhere to be found (not on the list for reinforcements). Note that all these bases are 8-9 hexes away.
I did some more testing:
For bases 1-7 hexes away squadrons transfer by air and everything is ok.
For bases 8-12 hexes away squadrons disappear and are nowhere to be found.
For bases 13+ hexes away squadrons appear on the aircraft reinforcements list as organizing (which is ok)

I had a similar incident where fragments of AVG/1 & 67 Sq vanished when I tried to move them out of Rangoon.  I moved 6 serviceable H-81s of AVG/1 to Tougpoo and 5 serviceable Buffs of 67 to Mandalay, leaving 7 unservicable a/c of AVG/1 and 9 of 67 behind.  I then tried to move these frags overland (Tougpoo & Mandalay both had the -r) to join up with their parent unit, but 4 turns later they are nowhere to be found.  They're not on the air reinforcments list nor are they on the land based air units list as fragments.  And before someone asks, yes I'm 100% positive I didn't accidently click on withdraw or disband.

Attach the save (preferable before the transfer) with instructions on which and where to transfer the unit and I'll have a look.
If you don't have the pre-save, a post save will do but will be more difficult to say what happened.

Some more testing:

Ominato Ku-S1 based at Ominato

- rail transfer to Hamamatsu and Gifu (both bases at 11 hexes, first that can't be reached by air) - disappeared
- rail transfer to Osaka/Kyoto (12 hexes) - disappeared
- rail transfer to Matsue (13 hexes) - squadron appears in reinforcements list, organizing
- rail transfer to Kobe (13 hexes) - squadron disappeared
- rail transfer to Fukuyama (14), Hiroshima (15), Shimonoseki (16), Tokuyama (16) - all ok, organizing

I loaded the same turn as allies to check their airgroups.
VMO-251 based at San Francisco
- rail transfer to San Diego (13 hexes, first base that the unit can't reach by flying) makes it disappear.
- rail transfer to Portland (17 hexes), unit appears as reinforcement, organizing
- rail transfer to Pendleton (17 hexes), unit appears as reinforcement, organizing

All the units that have disappeared have been assigned to restricted commands. I have tested all Japanese unrestricted air units that can be transported by rail (5-6 of them in total) and there were no problems with them, they all appeared as organizing in reinforcements list.
So far it seems that problem is with rail transport of restricted air units, if the distance to the base you are transporting them to is just a little bit outside of their air transfer range.

Again it would be great if someone could test the same units moving to the same bases so we can see if it will happen again.

Michael,

I just tried it on fresh Dec 8th start, same thing can be reproduced using the units I mentioned above so I don't think it is specific to my game.
If you still want my saved games I'll send them ofc, I have pre and post saves.

I tried the first one:
- rail transfer to Osaka/Kyoto (12 hexes) - disappeared

and it showed up in Reinforcements

It might be an idea to attach a save to see if there is some reason for why you aren't seeing this.

Looking at your picture I've noticed something - it says "1 day" in Days Until Arrival. In my case, when squadron is moved successfully to the base it says "Organizing". I have moved same squadron to Tsu, same distance (12 hexes), and it says "Organizing" instead of "1 day"... Do you know why?
Edit: Note that it can move to Tsu, but when I try to move it to Osaka/Kyoto it still completely disappears like explained in the posts above.

That's why a save might be useful for me to get a handle on whats up.

Usually, Organizing means that there is NO base assigned to the group for arrival. But that is not relevant to a transfer.

Michael check your inbox, I've sent you a PM.
I am having some problems sending you a save.

Edit: Strange, it seems forum did not send it to you.
Ok, the problem is that when I try to upload it I get the message that the file is too large.
I don't see your email so I can't send it directly to you, so I tried using PM to attach the file.
What is the right way to send it?

It just dawned on me.

I am using the patch01 version. It is working as expected here.
I am going to try 1080 to see what it is doing.

BTW, you need to zip up the save before and just attach through here - upload it like you do the images.

With 1080, transferred the group and it disappeared from the lists.
But reappeared in the correct base on the next turn.

I believe that this may have had something to do with creating fragments for reserve/damaged planes independently to the the ready planes.

I changed the way I did this for the patch which must have corrected them for the lists.

Ok, here is the save. It seems that PM has smaller file size limit so I can't attach the save there.

Can you please explain this? Isn't in my example Tsu assigned base for the arrival?
