Been playing a scenario 2 campaign as the Ami against the computer Japs. Going on July 42, and for the most part my carriers sit in port trying to become weapons. Where in the original WITP carriers unrealistically regained their aircraft and crews very fast, AE seems to have gone the other direction. Planes dribble in a couple a week, and it has taken over a month in port to get my airwings back near their capacity. Yet around Java, the Japs have been circling the island for six weeks pounding the rubble of my air strips with seemingly unending carrier aircraft and crews... I don't get why it is taking me so long to restock my carriers.

Without having to go shut off replacements for every marine unit that uses similar aircraft, I would rather that carrier airgroups get some priority on getting replacement planes. Any thoughts on this? Anyone else seeing similiar results? How about someone who's been playing the Japs, seeing similiar results?

In AE, your carriers are best kept out of harms way for a long time. Perhaps escorting cruise ships to Tahiti or Cozumel....

I have seen similar results in my game as the Japanese against the Allied AI. In fact, I currently have every single carrier that the Japanese own (it's Aug. '42 currently in my game), low on one type of aircraft or another. The KB (Akagi, Kaga, Shokaku & Zuikaku) which is based out of Rabaul at present, has 6 oerational Zeros between the 4 CV's. My Mini-KB based out of Singapore (consisting of Hiryu, Soryu, Junyo, Hiyo, Ryujo, Zuiho & Shoho) which has a capacity of 348 aircraft, currently has 146 total aircraft onboard. As you can see, I think the aircraft issues are more a function of the Human side, rather than which side is being played.

If it is any consolation, I think that the AI is having a similar problem.  I am playing the Americans in the campaign game and after some serious carrier battles around Port Morsby (I lost Lady Lex there) in June my ships retired to Sydney to rebuild.  The Jap AI decided to raid Noumea and Suva about a month later and the raids were positively anemic.  Even though both locations were weakly defended and merchant shipping was thick I only lost one DD and an AO.  The AI raids only numbered maybe 10 or 15 A/C each and were mostly chased off by the Buffalos and Aircobras defending.  My ship's airgroups are just about rebuilt in the same time but the damage is not repaired.  Maybe I'll raid Rabul next.
