I'm sure it's all the Wargamer's fault but how's this for paranoia?

1. Yesterday morning the entire Australian Internet connection with overseas crashed.

2. Right now Symantec's world-wide Norton Live Update Server has crashed and is currently being worked on (if you can't run live update that's why btw).

Are we being invaded?

Hi Adam,

I know what you mean. I am in Sydney and get my Internet via Optus. They have started using a newly issued IP address range starting with 110.33.109.XXX and I cannot even access the Matrix website anymore. It's been like that for a month now. Optus have sent an email through to Matrix's hosting service to update their IP address range lists but still no luck. The only access I have now is either through a proxy (which is not very good) or at wok (which is sporadic).

Cheers

Mark

Norton's back up folks (many thanks to "John" at Symantec Customer Service in India for confirming the world had crashed).

Hi Mark, that is frustrating.

I'm beginning to feel that my days as a PC owner are nearing the end. Kinda sowed the seeds when Microsoft released "Defender" as a pay for AV to its own OS! Kinda like saying "hey buy this car but the ignition key will cost you extra".

this is incorrect.  Only customers connected to Telstra's internet services would have been affected, due to a Telstra core router failure and consequent reboot.

Other service providers such as Internode were completely unaffected.

cheers

Their router broke?

You think they'd have redundacies. Thanks for the update Chris.

(For the overseas folks - Telstra is to telecoms what Rupert Murdoch is to the news) In fact, Telstra used to be the telco monopoly called "Telecom"!)

This is the beginning of that bandwidth squeeze you've been reading about online and in the paper. By 2012 (imagine that the end of the world year) the squeeze will be so bad you'll think you are back to using dialup again. Also, many strange things will happen between now and then as Nostradameus predicted.

The level on which these arguments really blow my mind is not necessarily in their cowardice per se, but rather the delusional beliefs that the cowardice rises out of. Namely, that all terrorists are The Joker. Stop taking films so seriously, Republicans! I mean, sure, we all loved The Dark Night (except if we didn't because of how proud it probably made Dick Cheney), but there is an important difference between movies and reality that Republican's parents woefully did not inform them of. In real life, terrorists do not typically allow federal institutions to arrest them in order to execute miraculously improbable escape plans that win them their freedom and allow them to enact even more atrocious acts of violence against unsuspecting civilians. Once they are behind bars, they pretty much just stay there. Unless they are innocent. In which case, they need a trial. And to ensure the fairness of that trial, it has to be public. Basic stuff, really. Someone should start an NGO called Educating Asshole Republicans on the Fundamental Understanding of Criminal Kases, EARFUCK for short.

Global warming.  The internet is starting to overheat.  Al Gore invented both, and he predicted this.

bottom line! I WILL NEVER USE NORTON ANYTHING AGAIN
not that not using Norton software is causing this problem but I have had so much trouble caused by them i stopped using there stuff several years ago. I stronly reccomend this to all. If you do make sure you get the free norton removal tool program (free) to get rid of them for good.

The whole outage was a commie plot to attempt to block out the news of the deep freeze and record snowfalls in the US. Seems like there is a mighty winter blowing around the northern hemisphere.

Yea, that's it. See, it got so hot that it made it cold. When it gets too cold ice forms on the wires which blocks the escape of heat during transmissions-thus systems overheat and fail-see?

Its like when the citrus farmers spray water on their crops to create a protective ice barrier to hold the heat in, but in this case its because it is getting so hot-get it? I...Be...lieve....
