What, if any, Close Combat version is set to be made next? Any news or tidbits that can be released?

I think that a pacific war CC is long overdue, and the night fights with flare would be great.

That looks impressive. However I am sure I am not alone in preferring the isometric/top down view as it gives a great overall picture of the battlefield. I always thought that Combat Mission and Squad Assault were too 'busy' for my tastes. Maybe I would just need to get used to the 3D view.

Although, a very good compromise would be a MYST CC engine game. That is 3D, yet it is quite manageable.

I'm missing my small mini map

Nice editing but I would prefer the isometric view. Still a way to add graphical terrain info would be great

I believe CC2 re release is the next one.

Well...like with most modern 3D engines...you can always pan the cam for the familiar CC-style bird's eye view.
The only problem is usually with the limited zoom out options (most 3D engine likes to keep the action close-up to boast the graphic details).
Here's Men Of War played with CC-style cam

I tried the demo but it's to fast paced for me
Strange enough that the CC series is the only one which gives me the right feeling. There's a lot missing but overall only little things are missing for me. AI tactics and path finding could be a bit better.

I played Blitzkrieg I & II, CoH, FOW, MOH and a bunch of WW2 RTS/Strategy Games with flashy graphics for maybe about a week each tops...then I will usually go back to the comfort of CC.
But nothing wrong with dreaming about a modern graphics engine for CC...with the patented CC gameplay intact of course

Myth engine. That would be great.

What is CoH?

Is Men of War similar to CC in modelling the soldiers, or is it basically just a command and conquer style game?

COH is company of heroes, and it is definately one of the best RTS to ever be made, period. i would highly recommend you getting it, its been out for a year or so, so u can get it on steam for like 20 bucks... theres a couple of expansions out as well.

you could say its kinda like command and conquer, but which much fewer units, and much more tactical. you move your squads around into and out of cover, buildings, etc, use MGs to suppress and pin enemy troops, you have tanks, at guns, arty etc. you have to use your squads tactically, not simply just point and click.

first mission: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w7Wv-0_cII

some gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJboEnxWxBQ&feature=related

the first COH has american and wehrmacht sides; the 2nd expansion added the british and 'panzer elite' (basically panzerlehr) and the tales of valor expansion added a couple more campaigns

TBH, my ultimate game would be a CC/brothers in arms/call of duty hybrid. itd be like bf2, where you can have one player as commander, with the top down view of CC. but then in the actual battle, you have players as squad leaders, commanding squads like in BIA, FPS style. of course youd have AI squads, AI tanks and guns, etc, but ppl could take part in the battle in first person. someday....

Really? You enjoy CoH's gameplay? I personally think it's quite poor for a WW2 RTS...I mean CoH is just basically Dawn of War with WW2 skin...so you basically get gameplay ala DoW with tanks firing at point blank (infantry also, without melee...at least DoW had infantry melee) CoH introduces cover...but DoWII now also features cover.
Also...base building and resource gathering (via capture the flag?) is a joke for WW2 scenarios...CoH:Tales of Valor without base building is a bit better.

not everyone is gonna like it, but the fact still remains it's one of the best RTS' ever made. the huge following and rave reviews (game of the year etc) are testimony to that. its not supposed to be realistic; for that i look to CC. haha

base building is a staple of most RTS. it works just great with COH, i think

I'd like to see a Pacific Theater CC.  Some nice entrenched Close Combat if you will.

I"ve played the same batch of games SL and resulted in the same thing for me too. Those games just don't hold the interest for me that CC does. Agreed about the graphics and engine. It's GOT to be top down to be CC. Being able to survey the battlefield all in one shot is what keeps you linked to the strategy aspect of CC. If you can only see one part of the battlefield it takes the player away from thinking about what's going on elsewhere. To some extent the larger CC maps contribute to this but not nearly to the extent 3D does by the nature of the fact the viewing window is so convoluted as a result of perspective.

IMO the pace has EVERYTHING to do with the percption of how real CC is. Blitzkreig and all those iso3D RTS's are too frenetic and depart too far from the "real" in RTS. They have some great looking graphics and COH is the best in this respect and the developer has slowed the pace down somewhat but it's still not CC.

The view in COH is quite customizable. He is showing zoomed in view which is not how I played the game 99% of the time. The standard view is similar to isometric but with a 3D graphics engine so you can rotate, zoom etc. I don't care much for COH and gave my copy away because in the end it is just a RTS game and highly unrealistic.

sure its realistic. didnt u know standard operating procedure for the allies vs assault guns was to drive around them in circles whilst firing, so the stug couldnt traverse fast enough to hit the sherman?

It's even funnier in COH when you zoom in and you see a 10 on 10 (troops) the guns are a blazing and no one dieing. Troops shooting at tanks and Tanks going at it H2H from maybe 1-2 inches apart on the screen.

Fun to play ?......yes
Best ever?...........no

LOL! Ohhh I know.. isn't that disgusting! I can't believe people think CoH is a good game. It makes me want to puke when people brag about that game.

I think (please all of you correct me if I'm wrong) that one of the main differences between the gameplay in the CC series, and the various RTS "competitors" (yes those are bias quotes) is a combination of the unit awareness and combat distance.
