I heard from a customer who was having problems completing the Eben-Emael mission in the tutorial, so I thought I would do a walkthrough. Here's the briefing, the most important part is the bottom where it explains how paratroops work.

So I get started - I see that I have three paratroop units and one fighter unit. I don't know what's on the ground in my target area, so I decide to use the fighter as recon to find out what's there before I land my paratroops. I left click on the fighter, then move it to the hex you see my pointer on.

The lighter blue area shows what my fighter can see now. It reveals that only one location (the fortress) is actually garrisoned and that by a unit that is only Strength 5.

I move my fighter over the fortress, just in case I need it for air support next turn. I now left-click on one of my paratroop transports and left click to move it to the northern-most bridge. Once it moves there, I note that if I hover the mouse in the same hex where it is, the mouse pointer changes to a parachute. That means it can land there.

So I left click in that same hex with the parachute pointer and the unit lands and takes the bridge. The transport disappears, replaced by the paratroop unit on the ground.

I left-click on the next paratroop transport and left click to tell it to move to the next bridge down. Once it's there, I left click on its own hex with the pointer as a parachute and tell it to drop its paratroopers to take that bridge.

I left click to select and left click to move the third and last paratroop transport to the southern-most bridge. Once it's there, I left click it its own hex to drop the paratroops.

With no other enemy units in sight, I decide to move all my paratroops in on the fortress. The one from the northernmost bridge already had to use an action to drop and then has to use another to move next to the fortress, so it can't attack. The other two dropped adjacent to the fortress and they can attack. I order the first unit to do so by left clicking on it and then left clicking on the enemy unit to conduct the attack (expected to cause a loss of 1 Strength to each side).

Once the battle resolved, I actually lost 2 Strength and the defenders lost 1 Strength, but I have another attack coming. I left-click on the southern-most paratroop unit and left click on the fortress to attack. Again, expected losses are 1 for each side.

I whittled them down to 3 Strength with that attack. The defenders then tried to attack one of my paratroop units and I got a very good result, annihilating them in the process. As a result, I have only to left click on one of my units and move in to secure a victory as I already hold the other objectives (the bridges).

I recommend playing the paratroop tutorial before starting the campaign.

Is there any randomness to where the paratroops may actually land? There should be some uncertainty of having missed target drops....

No. Since the hexes are approx 5km, how far off would they be?

Fair point, but then perhaps there should be a small % roll for a loss of an SP or two in order to reflect the possible disorganization within the drop zone.... I guess it should not be so cut and dry that's all...

That would add a bit of suspense to the gameplay. Might be better suited to a more serious game. I like that chance of loss and suppression in Steel Panthers.

So did ya buy the game yet?

Waiting for the update to become official and installed in the game, so very soon.....I had hoped of doing an extensive German-Polish Campaign with the editor but upon doing some more reading around here, I see that Polish units are not represented....
