We all know that Tokyo and Pearl Harbor repair ships faster than any in-theater base but how much faster? In terms of base size, assuming it’s a linear progression, what size port would Tokyo and Pearl count as?

A second question: is the increase in repair abilities of ports linear? Does a size 8 port repair twice as fast as a size 4 one? More than twice? Less than twice ?

On-map bases are not at all efficient when repairing system damage. That's where Pearl/Tokyo shine.

You can't disband a TF in a base with a port smaller than size 3. IOW, your repair rate will be poor.

Larger bases (port sizes 6-9) can usually save a ship with high system AND flotation damage (high system damage impairs flotation repair). It's this factor that causes me to limit engagements to areas no farther than 4 days sailing from a major port.

Is there any difference between a TF docked versus disbanded/ anchored for repair rate? The manual aludes to this but not clear to me.

An answer with specifics would be nice.

I think we understand as Yamamto mentions in his question the general concept. How about a formula or some detail that we can rely on to make a wise decision?

If this is detail is in the manual I cannot see where. Could someone point out the repair section? It seems the only thing I can find is under the section about Naval Combat.

This has also been covered to some extent in previous threads, you should be able to find more info by doing a forum search on ship / port repair.

Larger ports, in effect, get more "die rolls" to have the right part or the expertise to repair a problem. Larger ships are more difficult to repair in theater than smaller ships. It's easier to bump down some damage at higher levels (i.e. move a ship from 55 to 50 sys damage) than it is to completely repair every last broken part (i.e. move a ship from 5 to 0 sys damage).

The major off-map ports at Pearl and Tokyo do not rely on chance, they have all parts in stock. They have a fixed repair rate depending on the ship damage.

The general rule of thumb is 30 or more system damage, send it back to Pearl or Tokyo. Less, keep it in theater unless you think sending it back will release more ships from reserves.

Regards,

- Erik

I've been keeping careful track of repair rates and I can't add much at all to the above post. It is also difficult to give formulas when the repair rate is based on a die roll. As a general rule of thumb, a ship with minor damage (DD, CL) will repair 1 system damage every 3 days. (This going from 10 to 9). But the more damage a system has the faster it repairs. The bigger the ship, the slower the repair, too. A CV with 13 system damage could be in dock two weeks and repair 0, 1 or 2 damage; as a general rule.

If a DD has 20+ damage I usually send it to pearl. I have DD's coming out of my ears. The turnaround on a 20 damage DD is really fast. A CV with 30+ damage will be in Pearl for 100+ days.

Thanks Erik. Shortly after posting this note I did find some others that helped clear the fog, and your answer pretty much sums it up!
