The big news is my Amphib TF inching towards Babeldoab with CVE cover. I ran up the CVs so they are just a few hexes away to beat a path and keep the transports unbombed but it didn't provoke a response. The invasion force includes a SAG tagging along with some Colorado BBs, these guys will turn into a bombardment TF on invasion day and then retire. Looks like the preliminary Iowa bombardment really worked, the fighter defence was pretty bad today. The airfield is still in commission I think but the base is filled with damaged Franks, Georges and Zeroes. Landings will begin in 2 or 3 days, I got 32,000 troops, almost 2 divisions worth, with a mix of armour and combat engineers. I think this won't be enough to quickly run over the defences, so it'll be a siege. However I'm happy for my Pacific CVs to remain on duty in this area until the siege is concluded so it's not so bad. Also I'm kinda hoping on the American firepower advantage to be telling but we'll see I guess. I estimate the Japanese defence to be in divisional strength, with a lot of engineers. Not sure if the IJN will make an appearance. If I was him, I wouldn't. He has no real LBA in range of Babeldoab, I'd wait for a more opportune moment, like an Allied landing in the Philippines. But you never know. Superforts used for the first time in the Pacific, I was a bit wary about sending them in unescorted but they are tough old birds alright and seem quite capable of trashing it without escort. The range to Yap from my airfields is quite large, only the B29 could have done this mission.
