Funny stuff. Another cruiser force arrived at the Malayan front and was sent in to Singapore. At the exact same time a Japanese cruiser force sallied forth from Singapore to try and hit my merchants that are unloading at Georgetown! They dont find the merchants, but they do find the CV force. Talk about ships that pass in the night, during the night phase they managed to slip by each other without an encounter. Not so during the day phase... Even if the DDs didn't bag it, the submarines would have. Looked like a Java -> Japan convoy. As he's pulled out all aircraft from Kendari and the south coast of Borneo apparently I've been aggressively raiding with DDs here too. These guys managed to slip the Allied ships who hit Singapore somehow, they dont find the merchants but they do find the fleet carriers! Their surface escort has been pared down to a minimum too due to all the raiding attempts. Fortunately British carriers are heavily armoured and damage is very light, unfortunately Prince of Wales catches a torpedo and is looking at six months of dry dock (30 major floatation damage). In the space of a week the RN has gone from having 3 fast battleships available to 0. Damage done to the CVs is negligible but so happens they need to retire anyway as damage to their air crews is starting to seriously degrade their effectiveness, they need to replenish. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Singapore at 50,84, Range 5,000 Yards Japanese Ships DD Matsukaze AKE Irako, Shell hits 11, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk Allied Ships CL Newcastle CL Denver DD Quilliam, Shell hits 2 DD Rapid DD Redoubt DD Rocket DD Roebuck DD Saumarez Reduced sighting due to 14% moonlight Maximum visibility in Overcast Conditions and 14% moonlight: 4,000 yards Range closes to 28,000 yards... Note the t-bolts which are now settled at Alor Star, means the slight fixing my CVs need won't be an issue now, LBA is finally set up in Malaya. I used Georgetown not Alor Star to land at in this instance though as CVs are in position and Georgetown is a bigger port. Georgetown is not connected to the Malaya rail network unfortunately which is why the P47s are based at the slightly more distant Alor Star. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Tandjoengbalai , at 47,78 Weather in hex: Clear sky Raid spotted at 16 NM, estimated altitude 26,000 feet.
