Okay, after a beta/RC period that has seen over 30 new features and tweaks, as well as numerous other improvements and fixes I am happy to announce that PureSim Baseball v1.85 is now available as an official release. (Note: I skipped calling 1.84 to avoid any confusion).

All players are encouraged to download this massive update.

Congrats to Steve Lucey (CrashDavis), as this is the first official release that contains a significant number of tweaks and enhancements that came from him. Pretty cool, considering he just joined me on the development team two months ago! Having another developer helping has made a world of difference, and I think I can speak for him in saying we are both enjoying the collaboration immensely.

Not a big deal but, if you go to Season Browser and click on a team in the All Star and Top Salaries section you get a "Program can't display webpage" message.

A few minor nits about the "Stats & Leaders" pages in the Season Browser:

- ERA on the Leaderboard should display at two decimal places
- Team batting "runs per game" should calculate on the team's actual games played (like team pitching does)
- "Top Salaries" IMO should be the top salary players in the league listed in descending order by salary (not the player's or first alphabetical team in the league)

I love this feature by the way!

On the player cards, the Major League Debut date shows up as the current date, not the date the player debuted in the majors, for players that were in the initial league draft using real players.

I started a league in 1970. All of the initial players show up as debuting in 1975, my current current year, instead of 1970. All of the players that have come in since then show up with correct debut dates.

On the roster page, if you click the suggestion button nothing happens. I only had 50 out of 55 players on my team. I went to another team who had 58 players and clicked suggestion and still nothing.

Quick question: are OOTP format schedules (I use txt formats) no longer accepted? I completed spring training and went to add the 2010 schedule (for use as my 2020 campaign). When I tried to import schedule, the only file option is psc files.

I can't duplicate this. Any more details around the situation / league type?

Is it possible to convert what I have to a psc file? Is it something I could do? I know I am an oddity here (I do not use historical reply) but I really would prefer not to play the same sked over and over again....Thanks

I've lost the ability to "right click" on a player to make promotions, demotions, etc. No biggie, I just have to go into the player's card to make those changes. Did this function go away with 1.85?

I hadn't noticed until you posted this, but I just checked and it is gone for me also.

I noticed it was gone in 1.84 as well. I hadn't had time to play in awhile, so I thought it went away earlier or I dreamed it, so I didn't report it. Nice to know it was there before.

So does this mean that fictional associations cannot have interleague play? I can't remember if this was an option in association setup or not . . .

Although not a huge feature, it is kind of nice to be able to use the kind of schedules that are available for OOTP.

burntcore82, are you on Vista or XP? What version of IE do you have?

One thing to try would be to uninstall, reboot, and then install 1.85. Also, be sure to "run as administrator" for the install. It is a long shot but worth a try while you wait for some real help.

Hi Everyone,

First time posting - first time ever had an issue with the game!

Upgraded to 1.85 and received the following error when the game tried to compact the database after upgrading the association. I was running 1.83 previously.

"PureSim Baseball was unable to upgrade the association from version 0 to version 400 Detailed Error Desc:Object invalid or no longer set"

Joe

Sounds like some latent corruption in that association. I would restore your most recent association backup and try again. If that does not work, zip up the most recent backup and send it to me using www.sendthisfile.com send it to puresim@gmail.com

A few things I'm noticing -

After six seasons in a fictional 20-team association, I'm still seeing some very poor drafting in the amateur draft. Of the 100 picks each year I'm seeing anywhere from 6 to 22 scrubs being selected. These guys are in the 30+ age range. The teams are not under any financial constraints and there are plenty of quality amateurs to choose from. This simply makes no sense to me and helps explain partially why the AI has a hard time keeping up with the human competitor.

Finances seem to be a little off. My example (again from the same association as above that starts in 1972). Total finances for the teams in this association range from 79 to 122 million. Teams are only spending between 13 to 27 million on player salaries. The player demands appear to be too low for the total amount of finances. The gap seems to continue to grow as inflation grows the total finances each year. There is never a problem in signing or re-signing who you want.

When scaling the finances of an association there still appears to be a problem. Let's say I start an association again in 1972. The scale box on the set up screen goes from 100% to 46%. Let's say, then, that I want to scale it down to 10%, maybe I want to have finances but don't feel like dealing with big numbers. I go to the initial draft and teams will have spent most of their finances before the draft is even half over, leaving them signing only the absolutely cheapest players available. I saw a team left with $68 to spend on 25 players! The game bogged down at this point and the draft dragged on . . . the still kept signing minimum salary players. I don't know if the AI was then adjusting the salaries of the previously drafted players or not. The bottom line is that in this situation, player salary demands were simply too high for the scaled back finances. This was a feature that worked fine in previous versions (1.51) but has seemed to run into some problems with 1.83 and beyond.

eric: I've noticed that between '73 and '78 of the current league I'm running that started in '70, the salaries are quickly rising. When I started, the highest salary I had was about $20K. Now, in '78, I just resigned my star pitcher (Fidrych) to $3.7M over 5 years and over the past couple of offseasons, I've had to deal with rising salaries. Now, my available cash is $79M, so I have the money to pay for these players, but as my players come up for extensions, my budget will rise quickly.

Now, I don't know how the computer team is building. I'll take a look at that.

Guys, I'd suggest that in a career league, it is NOT a good idea to mess with salary/treasury scaling between seasons; the game does that automatically. Reducing the scale only compounds the problem, as the players are NOT gonna ask for less money. In other words, it's not nice to fool Mother Greed!

KG -

Yeah I decided to not use it anymore. My point is that reducing the scale did not cause a problem in previous versions of the game. I'm just curious as to why it's not working the same anymore.

eric517, my best guess is that this was all a part of sharpening/speeding up the game code. As reducing financial scaling in an active association was perhaps deemed unrealistic and/or unfair to the AI, I suspect the capability was removed. I am definitely in favor of removing quirks/tricks for the human player to "stack the deck" against the AI.

Shaun,
Real players, playing in 1951. Tonight opened the game when to the rosters page. Clicked on suggestions and your roster is full. Played a few games, then traded with another team. Was a one for one, but I also kicked in Hoot Evers to the deal. My team is now one player short. Go to the rosters page and click on suggestions,,,, and nothing happens. I don't get an error. The suggestions page or review of available talent just doesn't happen, like I had never clicked on the suggestion button. I'm playing a standard 1951 league, 2 leagues 8 teams each. Hope this helps. Oh yes, this is a new league and have just started my second year.

Can you zip up the most recent backup of your assn and send it to me? Backups are in the \psa folder under PureSim and follow this convention:

[your assn name].PSA.backup_1, [your assn name].PSA.backup_2, [your assn name].PSA.backup_3. Zip up the newest one and send it to me. The best service for this www.sendthisfile.com. It's free. Send the file to puresim@gmail.com

Thanks.

I'd like to look at your association and see if there is latent corruption.

A couple more minor Season Browser nits:

The player card does not show the correct positions. Also, when a player is traded in mid-year, the stat lines by team should be listed in order of oldest team to newest team.
