The SS Narwhal is spotted again off Midway but no attack can be followed up - its getting a bit personal now with this sub.

Johnson is bombarded by the big BB TF before it leaves to cover the Lahaina landings, casualties are minor but disruption is my intention and this is achieved.

Everything is heading east as planned, the Lahaina invasion force, KB and BB TF will meet up somewhere north west of Pearl near French Frigate Shoals and go in as one force to concentrate the CAP.

Just north of Japan, near the Korean coast the SS Skipjack tries its hand at one of the huge Tonan whalerscarrying oil from Port Arthur but misses with 4 torpedoes fortunately - more ASW TFs are heading this way.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

At Laog 2 unescorted xAKLs are returning to Takao and come across 6 PT boats but manage to avoid any conflict.

A number of 139WH-3s attempt to disrupt the final landings at Tarakan throughout the day but come across the Haruna guarding the TF and all 9 are lost to AA fire from the BB.

A sneaky minefield has been laid at the entrance to Tarakan's harbour, an AMc goes up in flames but no lives are lost.

A minor bombardment prepares the way for the invasion led by the Kumano causing 104 casualties. In return the garrison bombards the landing forces and the number of troops involved tells me i need to unload more from the ships before ordering the deliberate attack.

Oblivious to my orders 15 Zeros sweep Manilla and meet 4 P40Es, losing one Zero - fatigue been the reason for the defeat - these planes are ordered to rest.

China

A bigger ground attack from the air hits Hong Kong today, 57 bombers in all - 1 gun is disabled amongst the withering AA fire.

Up in the mountains near Yenan the Japanese steamroller is starting very slowly to move, brigades and divisions are forming on the front and clearing the lines - a deliberate attack of 23k troops against 12k Chinese troops yields odds of 2:1 and 721 Japanese give their lives on Christmas Day, destroying 5720 Chinese troops in return and causing a retreat.

Further South Ichang falls to the Allies after a number of repeated attacks, 3k Allied casualties are inflicted but the Japanese suffer 6k and retreat towards Hengchow to regroup - they will return.

The Tojos go in again at Hong Kong harbour hitting 2 more MTBs at 100ft.

Malaya

10 more Allied bombers are destroyed on the airfield at Singapore but at heavy cost - 22 damaged Sallys and 12 damaged Nells and Bettys - the bombers will rest as there is no serious opposition here anymore, an occassional sweep will be ordered to let Yank know im still there, but both fighters and bombers will rest, train and upgrade.

Alor Star falls undefended to the Imperial Guards and they immediately head south to Taiping.

A force of defeated Allied troops has gathered in the middle of the peninsular and appears to be heading east towards Kuantan, ill keep an eye on these and hope the advancing guards will force a turn around.

The elite troops of the 1st raiding regiment attack from the air and land at Port Blair taking the base and capturing the garrison, AV support is been flown in and a Mavis group will be flown here to snoop around Burma and see whats going on.

Off the West Coast of USA the I-19 is spotted by the DD Preston but escapes in the night.

DDs Downes and Balch find the I-21 but both fail to attack the sub.

The recently formed Pearl Invasion TF comes across their old enemy the SS Narwhal in the harbour of Midway and the sub is hit 3 times by the accompanying ASW force - hopefully this is the last of her.

In the night the I-5 blunders into a force of 9 DDs and a cruiser - CL Phoenix, coming into Pearl but escapes with only one hit from the cruiser and never gets the chance to fire her torpedoes. Her escape run brings her onto the xAP Etolin but she misses with 2 torpedoes.

There are a lot of small DD ASW forces off Pearl and they are all about to meet the KB and the huge BB TF escorting the Lahaina invasion which itself boasts 8 Cruisers and 12 DDs amongst the landing craft.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

It seems whenever i find a group of zeros not training another pops up and attacks Manilla - a sweep of 14 Zeros attacks the air space over Manilla and finds 3 P40Es, destroying 1 for no loss. ALL Zeros are now grounded to reinforce and prepare for the long flight east where they will all be needed to sweep the skies over Pearl.

Tarakan is bombarded by the invasion fleet and the BB TF here to guard the invasion against the Boise and co. Minor casualties are caused and the 3 seperate elements of the 124th regiment complete their disembarkation on the beaches.

Hapless 139WH-3s attempt to cause disruption to the landings but the Haruna again swats all of them from the sky.

The garrison at Tarakan bombards and now the numbers show they are hopelessly outnumbered - the deliberate attack is ordered for next turn.

The 8th JAAF AF Btn unloads at Vigan - this is the lucky Btn that escaped the attack of the PTs last turn.

The Sasebo 8th is ordered from Aparri south to take the undefended northern Luzon bases here.

Malaya

The last remnants of unrested bombers go in at Singapore again destroying more bombers and fighters on the ground namely Buffalo and Wirraways - this will be the last turn of airfield attacks as the bombers here also prepare for ground attacks or the long haul east to be stationed at Lahaina and ordered to bomb Pearl flat.

The mystery clump of defeated troups continues ever eastwards under the watchful glare of the unloading ships at Mersing, im sure its headed for Kuantan.

China

A bombardment at Hong Kong leads to 108 casualties - i dont know whether the number is lower because theres less to hit or its less effective after a ground attack - i will try again next turn.

Another fight in the hills as the Japanese juggernaut starts to roll, this time more line clearing in the North - 19:1 odds and 422 casualties to no Japanese loss.

In how many turns do you expect to land at Lahaina? How well is it defended? Any estimate on how many turns before your brave warriors storm the first, but certainly not the last, swath of true Amrican lands? :)

the turn i have just received this morning should see the 16th Div hitting Lahaina - recon shows 7 units, 110 guns and 37 vehicles, and there are about 15 ships guarding the entrance to the harbour - the escort for the TF is huge, im not worried about the ships, im worried about the garrison though - my opponent has increased it in size but this can only have come at the cost of some troops from Pearl - the AAR is 3 days behind real life.

As for Pearls invasion - everyone is ready at Midway im just waiting for the airfield at Pearl to get flattened and theyre off!

Having spotted a large AP heading towards Pearl last turn the I-15 moved to the island's harbour to try and intercept - Yank has mined the entrance and the I-15 hits one causing heavy damage - i imagine she'll sink.

The I-1 relentlessly pursued by the DD Conyngham finally puts a torpedo in the destroyer causing heavy damage.

A small bombardment to soften up the defenses of Johnston Is causes minor casualties and some damage to the port, elements of the 4th Inf Btn start to unload. The subsequent shock attack at 2:1 reduces the fortifications to 0, the allies take 231 casualties to 416 Japanese. The 144th Inf Reg standing by starts to unload to assist the invasion.

The KB, Lahaina Inv force and the BB TF meet up, refuel and head to Lahaina 400 miles away.

To the west the first islands to have been taken are stripped of their naval guards, they will meet at Tarawa and head to Baker which recon shows is empty.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

A raiding force of PTs off the Luzon coast finds a small escort force of SCs and PBs, an SC takes 13 shell hits and sinks, the rest retire.

The Kure 2nd and the Sasebo 2nd SNLFs continue to unload at Manado, a number of Hudsons attempt to disrupt the unloading but miss with all bombs.

At Tarakan, the 124th combines and attacks the garrison, the forts collapse to 0 and the odds of 3:1 cause 1143 casualties to the Allies, the Japanese taking only 45. Construction engineers will be brought in to enlarge the airfield and Jolos AV support is been shipped over. More determined 139WH-3s become scrap metal at the hands of the combined AA power of Haruna and Kongo.

The 8th JAAF AF Btn takes undefended Vigan.

Dadjangas falls to elements of the 65th brigade, they will reload and head to Cotabato on the northern coast.

China

52 bombers attack the ground troops again but withdraw amid the AA fire from the fortress, a gun is disabled.

The Tojos hit another MTB in the harbour.

The bombardment of Hong Kong yields 141 Allied casualties, i will try this a day or two more and then shock attack.

Malaya

A brave attempt by 20 Oscars to strafe the airfield of Singapore and destroy the remaining aircraft on the ground there results in 3 destroyed Oscar 1bs and 7 damaged - they wont try this again.
30 Nells and Bettys missed in the call up to rest and ship out east attack the airfield destroying 3 aircraft on the ground for the loss of 2 Nells.

The new occupants of Point Blair are attacked by 10 B-17Ds in the afternoon suffering 50 casualties amongst their number - AV support is been flown here to support a team of Oscars who will fly CAP.

A busy turn around Pearl as the KB comes within range of LBA and the small ASW forces patrolling the island group.

Near the island of Niihau a single APD - the Shimakaze meets the DD Case, the APD takes one shell hit and retires to Midway. However, shortly after a BB TF emerges from the morning mist, 6 BBs, 4 CLS and 16 DDs spot the solo Case at 30k yards which immediately evades combat, in the afternoon the BB TF finds her again but she evades combat once more.

The I-6 finds the DMSs Zane, Boggs and Trevor and launches 6 torpedoes at Zane, all miss but the sub escapes the counter attack undetected.

2 IJN DDs find the SS Cachalot near Lihue but cant engage the sub which disappears.

Another small bombardment to soften up the defenders of Johnston causes minor port damage and disrupts the garrison, with the 144th regiment ashore the odds change to 25:1 and after suffering 71 casualties the island falls to the shock attack. AV support is on its way from Midway and from Wake, enough to provide support for Bettys that will be flown in to bomb Pearls airfield.

A disturbing amount of bombers leaves Pearl but heads for a small TF of DDs acting as a picket force looking for the Allied CVs as opposed to the KB. 49 aircraft made up of Bolos, B17s, Vindicators and Dauntless escorted by P40Bs and P36As manage to draw 3 Zeros from the KBs CAP and the Zeros perform heroically, damaging or destroying 10 bombers and 1 P40B for no loss. No bombs hit the DDs.

In reply 36 Kates and 52 Vals leave the KB, but without their escort and run into a CAP of 72 fighters over Pearl - the results are devastating, 10 Kates and Vals are destroyed and 36 are damaged, one torpedo hits the CL St.Louis in the harbour.

This has effectively rendered the KB useless - every CV has Kates and Vals in single figures, a large majority of the pilots still exist but the airframes are simply wiped out. There is plenty in the pool but the KB needs to get to Japan first but there is still work to do here. Were i Yank, regardless of the cost, i would send the Allied CVs in now, their DBs and TBs greatly outnumber the KBs.

13 more unescorted Vals attack the previously mentioned Zane, Boggs and Hovey near Pearl, 5 more are damaged for no hits on the DMSs.

The brave DD Case is spotted by 13 more Vals off Niihau and she single handedly damages 7 of the bombers without a scratch.

At Lihue a number of Allied AKs appear to be unloading onto the island, 12 unescorted Kates find the AK Alchiba and she is hit with one torpedo. The 5 P40Bs providing CAP here destroy 5 Kates and damage 2.

In the afternoon the swarm of bombers goes after the DD picket force again. The 3 brave Zero heroes rise again destroying or damaging 6 bombers and 1 Buffalo for no loss, 1 bomb hits the DD Inazuma and they head for Midway.

19 Vals head for Pearl again, and the vast CAP of 70 fighters rise again. The bombers have the good sense to turn around this time but 6 are destroyed on the way back. 2 Kates also try for Pearl but 12 Wildcats pursue them, destroying 1 and causing the other to withdraw.

16 Vals then find the DD Mugford and DD Bagley between Pearl and French Frigate shoals, for once the bombers are unharrassed but the elite crews fail to land one bomb on target.

5 B-17s eventually spot the KB and attack, a CAP of 18 zeros meet the bombers damaging 2 for no loss.

Pacific Summary

All in all a terrible turn for the Japanese, the unescorted Vals and Kates were decimated over Pearl and the KB is now toothless - the remainder of her duties here now will consist of providing CAP for the invasion fleet and for herself - as an offensive weapon she is useless until she returns to Japan but i want to see the Lahaina Invasion safe first. There are enough Vals and Kates in the pool to restock the KB but i would rather this happen in the safety of the HI than out at sea. The anticipated destruction of the ASW TFs never happened as the DDs are simply too evasive in small groups and even the KBs finest couldnt hit one in open water.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

The retiring transport TF that dropped off the 8th JAAF AF Btn at Vigan is caught by the elusive pack of PTs - both xAKLs go to the bottom.

A more substantial force of DMS, PBs, and SCs find the PTs off Laoag but they both retire at 30k yards.

Hudsons attack the landing forces at Manado but all miss and 1 is damaged, the shock attack here goes in at odds of 1:1, the forts come down and the Allies take twice as many casualties as the Japanese - a second shock attack is ordered for next turn, to bolster the attacks here and provide a decent force to capture Celebes with a tank regiment is loaded at Badelbaob.

The SS KXVIII attacks an xAKL at Tawi Tawi finding the target with one torpedo, the ship was empty and heads back to Saigon.

China

The now compulsory Hong Kong bombardment causes 160 casualties - a shock attack is imminent.

Malaya

Nothing to report other than the Imperial Guards are nearing Taiping and the mystery blob of defeated troops are nearing Kuantan and theres nothing i can do about it - i will start to fly out elements of the bomber groups here as i cant get troops here quick enough to defend against the counter attack. After Taiping i will put the Imperial Guards and co. on the rail network down to Kuala Lumpur and Malacca and then back up to Kuantan where the guerilla force will have nowhere to retreat to.

Near Niihau the Lahaina invasion TF runs into the solitary DD Case again - this time 12 shells send her to the bottom.

The 4 picket DDs find the AK Alchiba, still unloading at Lihue, she seems remarkably healthy for the torpedo that hit her yesterday - FOW i presume!! She manages to evade combat.

Off the US coast two YPs come looking for the I-19, she sinks one with 2 torpedoes and successfully evades the counter attack.

At Lahaina the I-18 hunts 2 DDs, Chew and Schley - Chew is hit once by torpedo and bursts into flames. The Schley loses the sub in the night.

Bombers from Pearl come for the KB, she is only 4 hexes from Lahaina now at the very front door of Pearl itself, last turn i adjusted the make up of the Zeros and instead of each Zero wing having 2 instructions (50% escort, 50% cap) i have given them specific roles, cap or escort etc.

8 bombers and 11 fighters attack TF1 - a cap of 40 Zeros meets them, 11 are destroyed or damaged for no loss. 5 B17s break through the CAP and head for the Kaga but her AA shoots them down.

In reply the KB launches 7 Kates and 15 Vals escorted by 15 Zeros at an unloading transport TF in Pearl, 3 APs and an xAP are hit and sunk, casualties and vehicle loss is reported. 3 Zeros and a Val are lost to the CAP.

25 Zeros and 14 Vals then take off to finish off any Pearl TFs, a large CAP comes up of 32 fighters, 8 Vals are lost and 3 Zeros join them for the loss of two allied fighters - the Zeros definitely perform better on sweep, 4 Zeros and 10 Kates then sneak past the CAP and sink 3 xAKs in the harbour.

2 regular targets and now the proud owners of Japanese vendettas - the DDs Bagley and Mugford turn up again destroying or damaging 6 Kates and Vals alone for no damage - i will sink them.

The invasion of Lahaina will happen next turn, the toothless KB is ordered to stand off, east of Lahaina providing CAP for the invasion and herself - TBs and DBs are stood down. At the base itself i can see 2 TFs, 11 DDs and 12 CA/CLs - i think Yank has put everything that will float from Pearl in front of Lahaina to block the invasion, i have every confidence in the escorts ability to swat this aside - had the KB been fully operational they would have destroyed most if not all of this force with the careful positioning of the ships and tinkering of aircraft ranges, instead it will be left to old fashioned naval warfare. There is also a sinister looking dark green cross for ground troops - the indication of a much bigger force than i imagined - the stage is set, the dice rolled, we'll see what happens next turn.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

Nells at Davao see the cruiser raiding force southeast of Manado and set off to attack, 19 find the TF and again all miss their target 2 return home damaged. The CLs Durban and Dragon and the DD Vampire get to fight another day.

Manado's second shock attack works, and 1148 Allied casualties are reported, the rest head west into the jungle towards the next base, engineers immediately start to improve the airbase and the tank regiment sent to bolster the forces is just off the coast - under the watchful gaze of the unharmed Allied CLs.

Kudat, the last base on the north coast of Borneo falls undefended.

China

The bombing of the ground troops finally gets through at Hong Kong and 51 casualties are inflicted and the all important disruption. The bombardment only results in 37 casualties - a shock attack is ordered next turn.

Up in the hills clearing the lines a deliberate attack near Yenan causes 2265 casualties for only 35 in return - the Allies retreat.

im hoping this will come from Lahaina, the airfield seems big enough, all the moveable Claudes have been sent to Midway for upgrading though - i will see - the KB has earned the rest up at Japan anyway, i will calculate how long it takes to get there, restock and get back to meet the Pearl invasion at Midway - my concern is the arrival of more reinforcements at Pearl, but once Lahaina falls LBA will keep any out.

Why dont you take Hawaii island until you do a recon , if he has moved all of Oahu there you will loose a lot of troops and wont be able to land supplies fast enough.

During the night my old friends DDs Bagley and Mugford come across TF1 manouevering into the Pacific to stage CAP for the invasion - the DD Akigumo and Mugford exchange shots hitting each other once - the DDs then break off, the Mugford firing a cheeky shot at the Akagi before escaping but missing - i WILL find and sink these two.

Within the hour i find Bagley and Mugford again. This is what the 2 DDs see at 9000 yards :-

BB Nagato
BB Mutsu
BB Fuso
BB Yamashiro
BB Ise
BB Hyuga
CA Maya
CA Ashigara
CA Aoba
CA Kinugasa
CA Furutaka
CA Kako

DD Sawakaze
DD Shiokaze
DD Yakaze
DD Yukaze
DD Hokaze
DD Tachikaze
DD Nokaze
DD Namikaze
DD Sanae
PB Busho Maru
PB Keiko Maru

And for all the lost Kate and Val pilots out there who tried to sink these 2 the Mutsu sinks them both with 4 shells shots - revenge.

The I-20 also finds a familiar face, the indestrucatble AK Alchiba heading back to Pearl - 3 torpedoes and a surface attack put paid to any legend of this ship been unsinkable.

As day breaks the invasion force arrives at Lahaina and meets the naval guardians placed there to prevent the landings. An epic engagement unfolds, which left to its own devices lasted 35 mins on the replay.

The ships outlined above meet the BB West Virginia, the BB Oklahoma, CLs Trenton, Concord, St.Louis, Helena and Phoenix and 10 DDs. My DDs do an excellent job of screening the invasion force itself, and the transport ships are never seen in combat.

The Mutsu takes the brunt of the Allied attack receiving 48 shell hits, but she in return hits West Virginia and Oklahoma so hard that the follow up attack from BB Yamashiro sinks the West Virginia, and the CA Aoba sinks the Oklahoma with a torpedo, the Aoba also sinks DD Litchfield. The task forces eventually break off, Yamashiro, Mutsu and Ise are on fire. The CA Maya and CL Tama are the next most damaged and i think the Tama will sink before the end of the day. The CL Oi is also listing heavily and burning and the DDs Shiratsuyu and Ushio sink.

So on paper the IJN sink the BBs West Virginia and Oklahoma and the DD Litchfield, in exchange for 2 DDs and a heavily damaged CL - a success, despite the combat report telling me my TF escapes - the path to Lahaina is open.

9235 troops make it ashore in the first round of landings and are bombarded by 10684 Allied defenders, the Assault Values are shown as 348 v 279 in the Allies favour, counting the ships there is another 125 Assault Value to come ashore yet - i dont know if this is enough. A deliberate attack is ordered next go to give me a rough idea of the opposition and its quality, the 144th regiment is ordered from Johnston Is to Lahaina, and at Midway the ships carrying the 33rd Division are split off from the main invasion and head to Lahaina, using waypoints i will come down the west side of the island chain and land from there.

It seems there is still work for the KB to do - now heading east and north east are a number of damaged ships and i have spotted a TF made up of mainly AOs and TKs, the KB heads further east to meet them and the Vals and Kates are given attack orders at a maximum of range 3 - this ensures they will not get tangled up with Pearl and its CAP and the KBs Zeros can still protect the landing force at Lahaina.

Still operating off the coast of Lahaina the I-23 hits the xAK Susan Luckenbach with 3 torpedoes and comes to the surface to make sure of her destruction, hitting the stricken vessel 5 times and taking 2 hits in return.

The much reduced bomber swarm leaves Pearl and heads for Lahaina - 6 fighters escort 34 bombers made up of Bolos, Vindicators and Dauntless. 10 are destroyed and 7 damaged by the Zero CAP from the KB who take no losses, 1 bomb hits an unloading xAK causing 57 casualties.

6 A20 Havocs attack the landing craft escorted by 1 P36A, all are destroyed by the Zeros for no loss before they get there - recon shows 35 fighters and 17 bombers left at Pearl - i never needed to close the airfields with the KB - the quality of the Zeros is ensuring the field will be empty anyway - im more confident now of shutting the Pearl airfields from Lahaina once it is taken - over 150 bombers are flying east to land at Jonston Is and Lahaina to make this happen.

Out east off San Diego the DD Smith hunts for the I-19 but forgets to bring any ammo and returns to port - i will move the I-19.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

Bad news from Manado - the tank regiment sent to bolster the forces here are intercepted 1 hex from their protecting cruiser force and are wiped out by the CLs missed last turn by the Davao Nells - reading the history of the AAR so far this cruiser force has destroyed an unloading TF at Singkawang, an unloading TF at Manado and now sunk an entire tank regiment at sea - these are my new recipients of the vendetta so efficiently meeted out on the DDs Mugford and Bagley.

The raiding force then enters the harbour at Manado and come across the waiting cruiser force here - CAs Chokai and Mogami with 6 DDs. Fire is exchanged - the DD Express takes a shell hit as does the DD Hagikaze and fires break out on her deck - the Allied TF withdraws.

I want in this area a number of reinforcements - at Manado, Tarakan, Davao, Balikpapan, Ambon and Kendari i would like a base force, some AV support and a SNLF/Naval Guard unit for garrison duties. Up at Saigon and Camrahn Bay ships are allotted and troops assigned to these duties. The 65th Brigade, 124 Inf Reg and Guards Brigade en route from Japan will be used to take Balikpapan and Kendari and the cruiser and BB force here will be used as escort - this should all happen within 2 weeks.

In the north Tuguegarao and Laoag fall, with this most of northern Luzon is Japanese all carried out by the mighty 8th SNLF and 8th JAAF AF Btn - it would seem Yank has retired to Clark, Batan and Manilla itself.

China

48 bombers hit the fortress of Hong Kong again causing minor casualties but at least surpressing and disrupting the forces here.

The Tojos go in to the harbour at 100 ft again and destroy another MTB here.

The shock attack goes in at 2:1, the forts crumble and the garrison take 768 casualties to 268 Japanese, the back of the defenses is broken today, a shock attack is ordered for tomorrow and we should be finished here.

At Wuchang there is a Chinese force in the base, the Japanese attempt to repulse the forces and claim the base back - at odds of 4:1 the Japanese take 1671 casualties but cause 12587 casualties in reply - the shattered remnants of the force retreat - the lines are looking tidier and forces are been moved in southern China to sweep the Chinese west and out of the area.

Malaya

The Imperial guards and co. are just short of Taiping and will arrive next turn - they have an assault value of 900. The troops at Mersing have an assault value of 2400, im confident 3300 with the amount of artillery i have brought will be plenty to take Singapore.

The blob of defeated Allied forces arrives in Kuantan but doesnt attack - this gives me time to extract all aircraft to Jolo and Singkawang. The base force and JAAF AF company waits to see what happens.

Why dont you take Hawaii island until you do a recon , if he has moved all of Oahu there you will loose a lot of troops and wont be able to land supplies fast enough.

this is what's at Lahaina -

34th Infantry Rgt /2...
2nd/298th Infantry Battalion...
8th Marine Rgt /1...
I US Amphib Corps...
110th USA Base Force...
112th USA Base Force...
102nd USN Base Force...
205th Coast AA Regiment...
2nd Marine Def Bn /1...

Its not a lot but may be just enough to even out the odds - i have sent the 33rd Division and the 144th Regiment here also.

The invasion force at Lahaina are sitting ducks for subs been sent from Pearl.

The SS Plunger is first on the scene and fires 4 torpedoes at an unloading xAK but misses.

The SS S-28 fires next - a 4 torpedo spread at an unloading xAK, 1 hits causing heavy damage and 12 casualties among the troops aboard.

In reply the I-22 attacks and sinks both the xAK Hawaiian and the xAK Knoxville, elements of a large transporter TF heading back towards Pearl. TF 1 comes across this same TF but the transporters withdraw before combat can take place, there are 5 more ships still heading east.

A surface combat TF patrolling off the south of the island chain near Hilo, there to catch any transporters heading south west to Fiji or elsewhere come across the xAK Clevedon but the transporter evades combat twice.

Out to sea 200 miles off the Pearl coast the KB comes across one of the transport TFs it was tasked to find and sink. A TF of 10 xAKs, xAPs and APs is found by 32 Kates and 53 Vals, 8 are hit by the bombers and 4 sink. 3 of the Japanese bombers are destroyed and 14 damaged. In the afternoon 20 Kates and 46 Vals attack the same TF sinking 4 other ships and heavily damaging one other - only 1 sails away unharmed. The TK task force is still on the horizon and the KB is ordered to intercept it next turn.

14 bombers escorted by 7 fighters leave Pearl to destroy the invasion fleet at Lahaina but the Zeros from the KB swat 4 bombers and 2 fighters from the sky without loss.

Off the US West Coast the DD Walke hunts the I-19, and hits her once causing minor damage - the DD retires out of ammo.

The 33rd Division has made good progress and should be at Lahaina in 6 turns, the 144th regiment has also left Johnston Is and should be there in 5 turns - the deliberate attack has surprising results, before modifications the assault values are 494 - 341, after they are 174 - 401, the attack comes out at 1:2 but the fortifications are reduced to 0 - another deliberate attack is ordered for next turn. An allied bombardment in the afternoon causes 189 casualties.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

At Kendari the now famous blind Nell pilots from Jolo and Manado attack the cruiser raiding force containing the Boise and Houston - 32 Nells bomb the ships at 6k feet and all miss, 8 return home damaged. More medals for incompetence and myopia are handed out.

Brave Hudsons attack the Haruna at Manado but all are destroyed, i suspect these may be part recon missions to see what ships are in harbour before the cruiser raiding force is launched again - the BBs will stay here until i can deal with the cruisers more effectively by air.

Nearing Brunei an empty TK sent to collect the oil is met by the O19 and sunk after 2 torpedo hits. In the future i will escort these ships - i thought there was no sub presence here.

20k supplies are being shipped from Takao to Miri to help rebuild the oilfields there.

Various SNLFs and Naval Guards are dispatched from Samah and Shanghai to perform garrison and invasion duties at Borneo, Mindanao, and Celebes. Small AV support companies will follow them and finally the Base Forces that will turn Davao, Tarakan, Balikpapan, Kendari, Manado and Ambon into regional airbases and reinforcement centres for this area.

The 65th brigade is ordered to attack the small amount of troops in Cotabato and capture the base, after its fall the 65th will join the 124th at Tarakan and wait for the Guards Brigade and an engineer regiment before attacking Balikpapan and Samarinda.

China

The bombers go in again over Hong Kong to soften up and disrupt the garrison before the imminent shock attack, causing minor damage. The shock attack hits at 6:1 - the defense crumbles and 10848 prisoners are taken. On this last day of 1941 Hong Kong becomes the Emporers territory at last - small elements of the force are sent back to Canton to bolster the undermanned garrison there.

Malaya and Burma

Paratroopers descend on Mergui south of Tavoy and capture the undefended base, the final batch of units will be dropped next turn and then the 3rd wave of paras will be dropped on Tavoy itself.

Imperial Guards and co are 1 mile from Taiping, and the mystery blob is still at Kuantan. To speed up progress here the 5th Division, 2nd tank regiment and an engineer regiment is sent north from Mersing to Kuala Lumpur.

Bombers continue to fly east to prepare for the levelling of Pearl.

At home the mini KB is now upto 91 capacity containing Vals and Zeros and is almost ready to sail south east to join the KB.

Betty production is increased by 50 and engines for the Zero and the Betty are increased by 50 each.

Sea -

The cruiser TF south west of Kona finds and sinks a single xAK - the xAK Clevedon becoming 1942s first casuality.

The S-28 hits the BB Hyuga with one torpedo - 25 floatation damage and 17 engine damage - she is sent home.

The S-34 hits the already damaged BB Mutsu after her shoot-out with the West Virginia with 3 torpedoes - 52 floatation damage and 31 engine damage - she is sent home via Midway where there is an AR in dock.

I-16 hits and sinks an xAK heading back to east coast.

I-19 fires 6 torpedoes but misses the DMS Elliot off San Diego.

SS Skipjack fires but misses at a fully loaded oiler but finds and hits an xAK carrying an artillery unit to Lahaina - more ASW is sent.

Air -

3 fighters and 2 bombers attack a retiring escort TF heading home with damaged ships - KB CAP intercepts and destoys 2 bombers and 1 fighter for no loss.

B17s find the KB and launch an attack, 8 Zeros intercept destroying 1 and damaging 2 for no loss.

Vals find and sink an AP and an xAP heading back east for further troops, 6 are damaged.

4 fighters and 6 Dauntless attempt an attack on the landing forces, the CAP intercepts, destroys a bomber and the rest return home.

Ground -

The Japanese forces have their assault value taken from 416 to 115 resulting in a 1:3 attack after the Allies benefit from an increase in AV to 447 - 1096 casualties ensue compared to 386 Allied.

Summing up

The Lahaina invasion is a no win situation, even at their best the troops will only ever be at 1:1, the 33rd Division is about 5 turns out and the 144th is approx 4 turns away, it should be enough. The bonus modifiers the Allies are receiving are for terrain and leadership and there is nothing i can do about these, whereas the Emporers finest are exhausted and disrupted - in some cases upto 90%. They are ordered to rest but will still receive bombardments from the Allies, to counter this the entire Pearl support force is sent from Midway - this contains a large number of artillery units, engineer units and a few SNLFs. The artillery will destroy the garrison hopefully, and on approach the engineers will split and land at Kona. This base will be built to airfield lvl 4 as soon as possible if the Lahaina garrison remain stubborn, or will be used to assist in the air campaign over Pearl.

The empty cargo ships are grouped into one big TF at Lahaina and ordered away from Pearl asap, to bring down the number of TFs for the KB to cover and to increase the number of targets for his bombers in the hope of stretching him even thinner here. There are now 11 bombers showing at Pearl, once these are gone the KB will retire to Tokyo to rest, refit and reinforce its devastated wings, 34 Claudes are also heading there to upgrade. The Val and Kate pool is healthy, the Zero pool is getting there, and the mini KB now has 98 planes aboard.

The combat elements of the invasion force are turned into a bombardment force - i need to soften up the garrison at Lahaina as quick as possible, and 20 DDs are left to cover the unloading supplies at Lahaina. The KB moves back towards Lahaina.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

Other than Clark, Iba and Manilla, northern Luzon is Japanese without any real offensive presence - this area will have to wait.

The South China sea is full of transports bringing AV support, base forces and garrisons to Borneo and the Celebes. Davao will receive more air support but its base force is heading to Manado, there is one for Tarakan, one for Balikpapan, one for Kendari and one for Ambon. Any available construction engineers will also be sent to Ambon and Balikpapan to improve the airfields for attacking Java and Timor. Jolo has been stripped, any remaining planes will be boxed up and sent to Tarakan for repair.

Cotabato falls undefended and the 65th is reloaded to be sent to Tarakan to meet the 124th and Guards Brigade for the attack on Balikpapan.

Malaya & Burma

Imperial Guards and co land in Taiping and will take the undefended base next turn and the 5th Div has left for Malacca and Kuala Lumpur.

All Nells are diverted to Manado to hunt the raiding force down there. All Sallys and Bettys and Zeros are headed east and are hopping from Takao to Japan to Wake and Johnston.

Sea -

S-34 hits an empty xAK at Lahaina with 1 torpedo

The BB TF leaves Lahaina overnight and heads for Midway, this was the bombardment force that has clearly forgotten to fire and then left the scene - they run into 2 xAKs and break off at the sight of the mighty transport ships.

The I-16, now an ace of the sea, sinks an AP off Pearl heading east.

The I-2 making its debut in the war finds one of the xAKs that scared off the entire eastern Pacific battleship force and sinks her off Lahaina.

Air -

The confused BB TF heading towards Midway is attacked by 9 Dauntless, 1 is destroyed and 6 damaged by the AA of the combined ships. In the afternoon 5 Dauntless attack again, 1 is destroyed and 4 damaged but the Fuso takes a bomb hit, the KBs CAP too far away to help.

14 Bolos and Dauntless attack a small TF of already damaged cargo ships limping to Midway. 1 is sunk and 2 are damaged and will probably sink next turn, 1 Dauntless is destroyed and 2 damaged, 5 Bolos are also damaged. 4 more Bolos are damaged in the afternoon trying to attack the TF.

2 Havocs come in at 100ft and attack the same TF hitting one xAK, 1 of the skip bombers is damaged.

7 Vals attack the other xAK that scared off the Emporers battle fleet and score 2 bomb hits.

2 Bolo and 3 Dauntless attack the landing forces but the Zero cap destroys 1 Bolo and the rest return home.

Ground -

The much vaunted Japanese artillery units open fire and cause 22 casualties to themselves and 9 to the Allies, the return Allied battery causes 133 Japanese casualties.

Summary -

The 33rd Div and 144th Regiment are well under way and are both no more than 4 turns away, the huge Pearl support fleet is also 7-8 turns from Kona, all TFs heading this way have been routed by way points to approach from behind the sub screen 120 miles west of Pearl as not many air attacks occur beyond this line pics to follow.

Elsewhere

Borneo and the Celebes are still preparing for the arrivals of the admin staff and garrisons.

Subs are moved to the entrance of Balikpapan.

The cruiser raiding force has vanished - last seen at Kendari, every TF is escorted by a number of cruisers and destroyers, and the Kongo BB force is sent south to find them.

Forces have arrived in Malacca, this will be captured next turn, the Imp guards and co are already underway to Kuala Lumpur and the mystery blob at Kuantan is now 13 units large, i imagine this is everybody who cannot reach Singapore and the attack will occur next turn, hopefully i can trap everyone here and force a mass surrender.

Other stuff

On a side note does anyone, if anyone is reading this need any more info, more pics, more plans, less text, im trying different styles?

I'd be interested in knowing a bit more about which forces are involved and what they are doing. A bit of an overview, you're telling us a lot about individual engagements and what certain TF are doing, but it's sometimes hard to keep track of the bigger picture. All in all this is a pretty interesting read.

One of the newly formed ASW TFs starts its work at Lahaina - the S-34 is found but no attack can be carried out.

A back up ASW force en route from Midway to assist at Lahaina comes across the SS Grayling at French Frigate Shoals but again no attack is prosecuted.

The 144th regiment should land at Lahaina next turn but will just unload and rest, i need the disruption levels of everyone to drop before the big attack goes in a few turns after the 33rd arrives the turn after next.

The KB is making moves to leave, its currently passing between Pearl and Lahaina providing cover for the approaching 33rd Div and the big support TF - once thats done it will return to Tokyo - the mini KB here has almost as many planes now at 110.

An SNLF has left Johnston Is to take Hilo opposite Kona - all airfields will be occupied around Pearl to maximise the impact of the air war.

10 more bombers are damaged attacking the remainder of the BBs at Lahaina - 2 Bolo and 8 Dauntless - no damage is suffered from the bombers.

Lahiana's bombardment attack causes 31 Allied casualties, 119 are suffered in return from the replying Allied bombardment

Midway and Johnston, the final destination for all Zeros, Bettys and Sallys and half the Nells are full of aircraft waiting to land at the newly taken airfields at Hawaii

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

An xAK approaching Tarakan loaded with elements of the 11th Base Force is attacked but escapes unharmed by SS Seawolf just north west of Borneos coastline

The big Haruna/Kongo TF is scheduled to patrol a big loop around Celebes - heading south past Ambon, west to Kendari and Maccassar and north towards Balikpapan finishing at Tarakan, looking for the cruiser raiding force containing the Boise and Houston. A number of 139WH-3s try their luck but fall to the massed AA fire from this TF.

China

A large part of the minefield at Hong Kong is cleared.

Malaya & Burma

Malacca falls undefended, the 2nd Tank regiment will wait here for the 5th Div and an engineer regiment and will then move north to Kuala Lumpur.

Tavoy falls to the 3rd Yokusuka Paras, Moulemein was reconned last turn and also seems empty, the 1st Raiding Force will be lifted from Port Blair to here asap.

Nice AAR so far comrade!

Just a silly question, are these "Indian" units part of the Japanese OOB?! If they are allied, how come they managed to reach Hawaii so quickly?

SS Argonaut launches an attack on the DD Harusame guarding the unloading ships at Lahaina, she is hit once and the already damaged DD sinks. The sub takes 5 hits in return from the nearby ASW force.

The same ASW force spots SS Thresher but cant prosecute an attack properly.

SS Nautilus is hit twice by ASW TF518 patrolling the waters off Lahaina.

S-28 has a rare off day and misses a passing xAK heading out of Pearl.

Limping home for repairs the BB Mutsu comes across the S-27 at French Frigate shoals - she is hit with one torpedo, floatation is upto 62, but she should make it to Midway for patching up.

SS Gar is found on the west coast of Lahaina and hit 7 times by the newly arrived cruiser force escorting the 144th Regiment into the harbour.

The 144th disembark without trouble and join the 16th Div in attempting to reduce disruption to ready for the attack. The 33rd is 2 moves out, this turn the large BB TF off Lahaina moves to meet them in the middle and then will escort the transport TF in.

The Pearl support force heading to Kona is about 6 turns out, on approach it will split and land just engineers at Kona and the artillery will divert to Lahaina. The KB is sitting at maximum range for its Zeros to provide cover over these 2 TFs and will leave when the 33rd is handed over to the BB TF.

4 Dauntless are destroyed and 1 damaged as they attack the Fuso without causing damage - i think a squadron of SBD-3s has arrived at Pearl, im unsure how unless a CV nearby has flown them in, but theyd be safer flown from a deck i would have thought. 3 more are lost in the afternoon but never make it as far as the ships - the CAP from the KB provides cover.

A number of bombers are lost attacking retreating damaged xAKs and other ships. I have lost recon over Pearl so cant see a rough idea of the air force here but his bomber count must be minimal now. Bettys from Johnston are tasked to recon Pearl for more info.

6 B17s find the KB, no CAP is put up to intercept but the AA fire damages all the attackers - it is time to leave - it is only a matter of time before one of the carriers is damaged without an effective CAP above.

The artillery batteries on Lahaina exchange fire again - the IJ Army causes 41 casualties, the Allies cause 152 casualties.

For the first time since the outbreak of war Allied subs are seen off the Japanese HI - the SS Sculpin is seen near Aogashima and attacks one of the newly converted AKEs bound for Midway to provide resupply services for the BB TF but misses.

Undefended Baker Island falls to the 51st Naval Guards, AV Support is flown in, recon will be sent to Canton to check the garrisons here.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

The small TF shipping in a SNLF force to Donggala is spotted by the 139WH-3 force that routinely patrols these waters and miss everything they fire at - not today - both ships of the TF are hit and set on fire - the forces aboard take casualties but bravely head to their coastal destination.

Undefended Sandakan falls, on a clock face Borneo is Japanese from 11 to 3 - the 2 big bases of Samarinda and Balikpapan remain as major buffers in the advance - the 65th is already en route to Tarakan, the Guards are rounding Mindanao, and 124th is already there.

A number of small TFs have now broken past Jolo and will land at the majority of the bases on Celebes from Donggala to Maccassar - recon shows them all to be empty.

China

110 mines are cleared from Hong Kong bay.

A deliberate attack occurs in the south as Japanese forces attempt to clear the rear lines and advance safely west towards Canton and onwards - the Allies are forced to retreat after taking 4:1 casualties.

Malaya & Borneo

The defeated lump of troops attacks Kuantan at odds of 13:1, the airbase falls once again into the hands of the Allies and the IJN HQ and support head north. This in a way is perfect - Yank has sent all his forces here, every base i take now will lead the retreating forces to head here and once surrounded all Malayas northern forces will surrender in one sweep.

The 5th Div and tank regiment now head west to take Kuala Lumpur instead of Temuloh - i cant use the rail road for Malaya Force B to come down the west as this allied base stops it from been used - once opened the Guards will be here in days not weeks.
